  • Continuing with my year-by-year series of videos on my complete vintage Hot Wheels collection, this episode details all of the diecast cars and trucks Mattel offered in 1979. Nearly every car in my collection is a mint example, and I offer an in-depth look at the model, variations, values, and a price guide for every car made during the time period. Check out the Scorchers series, Heroes comic cars, Scene Machines, Golden Machines, rare promotional items, and of course the entire main line of cars released including the most rare variations you may never have know to exist. Thanks for watching, your comments are greatly appreciated!

    1979 was the year I put my toys on hold, great to see the scorchers plying their gumption. As usual a great review and a valuable resource for new and old collectors alike.

    It's amazing to see those 1979 Hotwheels. I bought my new real life 1979 Alfa Romeo Sprint Veloce as a young man. I played with Hotwheels when I was a kid. Few years ago I organized my boys Hotwheels to start collecting Hotwheels as a hobby on my own.

      Thank you very much for your comment Dave, the Scorchers are so cool and tough to get much info on these days. I wish I had more of them for the upcoming years, but most people don't know what they are or how old and rare they are unless still in packaging. The cars don't say "hot wheels" anywhere on them.... so most probably end up in the garbage or sand box.

    Ahhhhhh, 1979. My 1st KISS concert and setting my HW track from the top of a staircase that went downstairs then into a loop to loop and on.
    Taking my TCR set to a friends that had an older TCR set and having a super huge raceway with those stunt cars. I wonder what happened to my purple Golden Crown bag full of diecast cars? Oh well. They were so played with but I only bought those that would have worked best on tracks.

    Great video and commentary - got a question - do you have any cases. You know the ones that held 12 cars or more and there was one that was a pop up - these were cases that had graphics of Hot Wheels on them back in the day? I don't know if you did a video on cases but was just wondering if you have cases that you like over other ones. Or if you had a special collection of them. Thanks for the video!

    Awesome video. It was quite absorbing! You have a very similar collecting criteria as I do except we have quite different budgets! So, prior to 1990, I settle for completing the casting even if its a later reissue, and exercise patience until I find the original for that year, a slow deal! Have you completed all years from 1968 to 2017?

    • @wtffor
      @wtffor  6 лет назад

      Thanks for watching and your comment! Completing a casting collection is no small feat either, good for you! To answer your question, my collection of Hot Wheels is mostly complete from 1974 to 1995, and about 60% of all castings beyond that. I don't collect fantasy models beyonf 1995, hence the lower percentage. Also, pre-1974 is beyond my price range for collecting, hence I have not started that collection and have very few cars from that time period.

    • @wtffor
      @wtffor  6 лет назад +1

      Amazingly, Hot Wheels have been sold for between $1 and $2 for their entire existence, the first cars in 1968 cost $1 each, and to this day they can be bought for the same, regardless of inflation. Yes there is more plastic in the cars, but the main reason that Mattel can maintain the affordability is that the cars are produced in such mass numbers, millions per year or more, so the cost remains low. Thanks for watching, and commenting!

      Sometimes the chrome plastic bases turn gold for whatever reason, something to due with aging under certain conditions. Most likely it is legit, unless the base has been obviously painted.

      Nothing wrong with 'played with condition'... just means the cars have stories to tell. I love my chipped and played with cars, and wouldn't part with them.... in future I will make a video on my played with cars.

    I have many of them in my Hot Wheels Rally case. Far from mint ass they were played with. Luckily when I outgrew them they were put in my dresser drawer and forgotten about.

    Those two rescue vehicles you have look very familiar like a crash fire rescue truck that I drove for a couple years prior to retiring just a year-and-a-half ago from the fire service they were called the Jaguar used on the Airfield or Airport quite a few years apart from 79 to now🚒

      I haven't really kept count, so it's hard to say... I do add about 100 cars a month to my collection on average.

      I have a feeling they weren't sold in all stores, and they definitely weren't as popular or produced in nearly the same numbers as 'mainline' Hot Wheels of the time. Hence probably fairly hard to find for most people. Thanks for the comment, and watching! :)

      Great find! The lots are the best way to go as far as value for your dollar, and every once in a while there are a few rare gems hidden among the bunch. If you pieced out the lot and sold it on eBay, you would likely at least double your money.
