- I am at that age when I am unashamedly all about practicality and comfort. The Toyota Corolla Sedan is one of the most practical car-buying decisions you could make. As a long-term test car it has fit seamlessly into my family and I love it. It is also the Hybrid version which means it is so efficient and after almost a month with it, we have only had to fill it up once. I might not give it back!

So is R500k for a Tiggo….
Why not? Its a huge sedan that has a huge boot, comes with leather front and back plus steering wheel, comes with latest safety technology as standard, infotainment screen that supports android auto, a big 1.8L NA engine that is boosted by an electric motor, and is expected to be disproportionately more reliable than its competitors.
You are not spending 570k on a depreciating asset. You are spending it on a lifetime investment for you and your kids.
Say whatever you want, but that’s GWM money right there.

Great review as always, my only issue with the Corolla sedan is random people opening my door thinking im their Uber😂 driver
I got a 2020 Hyundai Elantra and i do not even go with it to crowded places because of fears that it might happen to me, So i rather drive my polo often.

Bigger does not mean better access. When I had to move it was easier to load things into my polo than my e-class with a bigger boot

Entry level Lexus models are meant to fill the role of those higher specced Toyotas you speak of (I'm assuming you meant the likes of Camry, Avalon, Crown, etc).

We own 6 corolla xr 2.0 l this cars is elegant, soft and feul efficient. THIS vehicle really changed the game in our chauffeur business welldone toyota for delivery a master piece.....

I must confesses to being a Corolla fan.
I leased 3 Corolla’s from 2009 - 2017 whilst living in the U.S.A and paid USD 119, 122 & 110 including servicing and road Tax.
Whilst having a SUV I used the Corrolla as my Daily Drive , 60 mile per day commute to work. I also did numerous long distance road trips. Portland Oregon to San Diego, Vegas, Phoenix, Salt Lake and Vancouver..
My total send on the Corrolla was petrol and insurance.
Never any back ache or complaints from MU wife or two children.

Bought the corolla hybrid for the fam 2 years ago and they love it... upgrading the tyres , full leather seats and a boot spoiler (of course I'm indian). But seriously my wife was suv mad and she reckons this is way better

The European version is much better than the Australian and US version. Our digital gluster is completely digital with customisable screen. Also the infotainment system is 10.3 inches.
Hey Juliet, well I guess we're both children because I'm in competition with my car too. I have beat my car's claimed fuel economy figure by more than 2 litres, I'm currently sitting at 4.4 litres per 100km in my 2014 Kia Cerato K3 1.6 EX 6 speed manual.

For real!!! Cheaper than the Cross, with higher build quality and the fifth gen hybrid system instead of the fourth that the Cross has. And it’s almost definitely cheaper than one, massive value!

It was a toss up between this and the hatch, but wifey has one (1.2T) and the 2.0 sedan is expensive. So I went for another brand. But this is really a nice honest saloon with the most grown up looking Corolla in many years. Would still have loved one.

A misconception for B mode!!!
B on the gear selector represents “engine braking” so it kicks on the engine and simulates a lower gear in the eCVT, often ideal for when you’re coasting down a hill and don’t want to wear out the brakes. This new fifth gen hybrid setup is already very efficient as is so there’s no need to throw it into any gear other than D when you’re driving on level surfaces.
Experience from someone who’s had 3 Prius models with the same drive setup.

Lovely car, but I still think the Corolla Cross is much better value for money. And with the road quality these days, it helps to have something that's a bit higher off the ground.

I will opt for a discounted 2L CVT XR Sedan. The hybrid has those bland rims. My gripe with the sedan ís those seats. The leather seats in the hatch looks better.

The Corolla is practical and will last forever (not sure about EV mode) but it’s still the best.

I am 100% with you on mallow sweets thats been left out a while. They turn into toffy-ish sweets with a bite and a chew that they otherwise done have. Explained it like this to my wife: Out the packet you give it to small kids and babies...older and harder you give it to me...all of it.

I was a bit put off with the looks of Toyota Corolla's of recent past years but I think this one looks pretty sporty / funky for us old generation. I want one - putting it out there into the universe just in case there is a benefactor looking to sponsor me.
