When going in underwater caves for mining, you might as well bring a potion of night vision along with waterbreathing, so you don't have to worry about lighting :)
Potions are good but it's a pain to hold them all,for u der water exploration I just use a helmet with water breathing and then refill my air by digging into the wall...this also let's you put a touch on the wall I your air pocket to light the place up And you wouldn't believe how long you can swim in lava for with a couple of fire prop 4 items of armour
Been playing this game for 10 years and I just never bothered with potions because it seemed so convoluted. You explained it so well that I actually understood everything and will now be brewing some potions, thank you so much!
Have been playing for years and did not know about the effect the way you throw potions has on the time it lasts, this is exactly why I'm watching this series. Thanks Pix
I am so glad to hear pix first thing in the morning on my way to work here in Alabama, this series improves my single player experience 10 fold, thanks
On the subject of mushrooms, if you run out of food in the nether while exploring and are not near your nether portal, and if you struggle fighting hoglins, you can gather mushrooms and make mushroom soup in a pinch, there are also golden carrots in ruined portal and bastion chests (bastion chests are higher risk than reward in this regard). The best biomes to find the mushrooms needed for mushroom soup are nether wastes, warped forest, crimson forest; and while rare (not worth spending the time) can appear in the soul sand and basalt deltas biomes.
Loving those last few episodes. My current survival world started out as a nether survival challenge, and I still spend most of my time in the Nether making all kinds of farms and builds. I do agree that fire resistance is crucial for Nether exploration, they're a staple for me.
Aside from the discussion on potions, you've got me to think that dive mining could be a really fun play. It was so interesting seeing you find a geode and a cavern with a mineshaft just through dive mining.
In all my years of brewing (in MineCraft) I never knew the 'one source block' factoid, I always built in a three block permanent water source ... Than-Q Mr Pixlriffs, than-Q so much :))
hey - so glad to see season 2 for this series! i've been playing since beta 1.8 but took a break for a few years, so i missed a few updates and was confused for a while playing the game again. Your season 1 helped me get back into the groove and also blew my mind with elytra etc. lol - now i love playing the game religiously again but i'm always learning something new from your videos!
Unless you're brewing potion in bulk, I think it's nice to have a cauldron with dripstone on top of it! I have done that in my storage room (which happens to be underwater, but it shouldn't be too hard to manage that in a surface room).
Dripstone also works well with refilling cauldrons of lava as well if not near a lava source. Handy for villager trading and killing the odd Nit wit without angering a nearby Golem
Or just A 1 block of water for infinite quick water for multiple potions Idk if water goes up by many smaller levels in Java but in bedrock it's slowly goes up if I remember correctly.. Watched your "chopping" stream (for the first tim) last night (early here in Australia). Glad I was on holidays and could see it. So relaxing. I love how you explain everything in such a straightforward and simple way, no matter how experienced a player you are. Absolutely love your content. I've enjoyed every episode I've watched. Keep up the awesome work. Never thought about putting a water block just next to my brewing stand... I always just run to the nearest stream.
Hey Pix I was watching your last stream on twitch yesterday and you were wondering about the new rules for mobs spawning and light levels, specially endermen. I've tested this extensively and checked the wiki too and here is what I found : The general rule is that if a mob used to have a light level requirement of 7 or less up to 1.17.1 now it still has a light level requirement but it's 0 instead. If the requirement was different then it hasn't changed. In the nether for example ghasts can spawn at any light level but skeletons, including the wither ones can only spawn at light level 0. Piglins zombified or not and ghasts can only spawn at light level 11 or less (portals have a light level of 11) In the overworld slimes still don't mind the light level but of course all other mobs need 0 and zombified piglins will spawn inside portals but I haven't investigated to know if light level matters there or not and wiki doesn't say. Endermen are very interesting in that they are the only exception to this general rule, in the overworld or the nether they need light level 0 to spawn but in the end dimension they still only need a light level of 7 or less to spawn like before and not 0. You might want to make an episode on this, after all it affects the way we make farms or we spawn-proof an area and can be very useful information I think ?
I play minecraft for more than 2 years and i still enjoy you explaining things that i know by now. You are the best minecraft tutorial content creator!
Important note for Bedrock players: At least in the “classic” UI (not sure about “pocket”, but it probably still applies), the box with the effect and time remaining is not visible on the inventory screen; rather, it has its own separate menu that you can set to a button/key on keyboard and controller.
I love how a Brewing Stand seems so complex to most, but Pix went full Walter White on us and explained it perfectly for us to make our own potions/poisons. Next we'll see him take on the ocean monuments...I expect, he did last season.
Just finished binge watching this season and am really enjoying it you do so well at explaining minecraft it's like a walkthrough guide but one you can watch
I'm surprised you didn't bring up the graphic on the wiki that clearly shows how to brew every potion. I reference it whenever I'm unsure about them, but i have memorized most of the important ones like swiftness, nightvision, regen, fire resistance, and water breathing.
Brewing potions it only matters what's inside the brewing stand once the brewing is completed. Starting brewing with only one bottle and adding bottles during the process runs applys the ingredient to all bottles inside the brewing stand. I didn't know about the ressorces in flooded caves and never thought about it - pretty cool!
Talk about a series that anyone can learn from! Been playing since late-Alpha. I mainly played hardcore and NEVER thought of potions as a way to deal with blazes (my top cause of death). Now I grab 2 rods, and then brew before I go back!
Best Minecraft guide I've ever seen on RUclips! It's really good, I am now getting to know every single basic element(s) of Minecraft Survival to become a pro at this game, also helps me relax! EPIC vid man thanks for making and keep it up!
I'm not sure about Java, but in bedrock Minecraft, you can put your potion in a cauldron and create potion tipped arrows with it. It's actually a really fun mechanic because witches' cauldrons will spawn with a random potion effect in them.
Waking up to this and a coffee since the series began, i watched the last series also, sir this is great, cant wait to see what you got in store for us
I wish I had seen this when I was first learning potions. It was so confusing to me but once I figured it out it was really fun and I love completing things so having every potion in the game is very satisfying. Even if I don't need them lol
The important distinction with potions is that only some are really that useful for the single player vanilla experience. Namely fire res, water breathing, slow falling, night vision and maybe the speed effect (for exploring without elytra). Potions of strength, regen, invis and turtle master are mainly pvp potions. Their buffs are really good and i'd say defo overkill for the single player experience, especially when combined with even prot 4 diamond armour.
0:24 Lol that actually makes me think like, how DID the piglins get potions? Like they have netherwart farms and water bottles but never have any of the other equipment like anything blaze related. I find that to be a cool lore thing to think about. 🤔
Relics of their past, possibly. Could imply a relationship with overworld villagers, whose clerics have brewing stands and will trade for potion ingredients, but they never brew potions. It's also significant that Piglins could benefit from fire resistance potions themselves, since they aren't fireproof...
I built a very simple brewing machine next to my nether portal which brews 3 fire resistance potions every time I press a button. It was such a simple thing to build but very convenient; I think something like that would make a good tutorial later in the series when you want to cover redstone
In my old world I build an auto brewer that made almost every potion, it was extreme overkill. Just built my new one in my current world with fire resistance, water breathing, night vision, and weakness. Only ones you'll really need in bulk. Can't see myself not building one in a future world, they are so convenient.
"Potion of Invisibillity" is a rather usefull potion and is made from a "Potion of Nightvision" + "Fermented Spidereye". That along with "Potion of Weakness" are the two potions I mostly use that require "Fermented Spidereyes".
I always dive mine, because most of my bases are near oceans and dive mining is safer (just bring potions and doors! you hardly ever see drowned) and gets you better chances now, ive been using amethyst crystals as torches too
When I was younger (but not much younger. This was last year) I thought you could corrupt a weakness potion with a fermented spider eye to get a strength potion. Meaning if you found a brewing stand that has catalyst fuel in it out in your world, you didn't need to go to the nether to make a strength potion.
Hey pix I subscribed to your channel about 1year and a half through the first season of the survival guide and I am glad to have done so I followed the skyblock series just as closely and I had expected to have seen a cave and cliffs series for skyblock especially since there is now a way to get renewable lava I think I am not the only one who would enjoy also I have been wondering when the next episode of empires will upload
The only positive about my nether spawn being in a basalt delta is the fact that after a few visits I'm already swimming in magma cream and can save my slime and blaze powder.
the new water caves are just like the old water caves and the best things to take is a stack of doors, pumpkin lights (since they are cheapest block light) and finally armor with the 3 water based enchants (aqua affinity, deep strider (any level) and respiration. After you have all of that you can explore until your stack of doors and lights run out in both the caves and the ocean, though I think I had heard that doors now flood in bedrock I just can't remember if that happened in the water update or more recently
I usually hate dive mining, partly because of the whole torch situation. It's so easy to get lost. Also feeling like I have to place a door about every dozen blocks is not the most fun thing. With jack o lanterns and potions, though, maybe I'll change my mind! I always forget that jack o lanterns are a thing and are actually a really great early-game light block.
Yes! Finally the episode I was waiting for, even though I've played for many years, I only knew like 3 brewing recipes and was in confusion. Its so nice to learn when Pixlriffs teaches lol
Other than potions of weakness you can also brew thick potions without using a netherwart. You can turn your water bottle into two types of potions, that is an awkward potion and a thick potion. Thick potions exist in minecraft put are pretty much useless. You can turn them into potions of weakness with a spider eye and nothing else can be done with it. It has no effects.
A cauldron is really useful if you build a simple sticky piston system that pulls the cauldron backwards under a waterlogged stair block at the press of a button
Or you can just dig a hole in the floor and put a water source in it 😅 The problem with doing fancy redstone stuff at this stage is people might get the impression that you *have* to do fancy redstone stuff.
'Waste' is not an issue when it's possible to farm these resources renewably! We can just spam some piglins with gold or farm magma cubes and we'll have all the fire resist potions we want.
Also try find a heart of the sea and craft a conduit, place it and fully power it. you can stay under water as long as you want, within a certain radius though.
Should bring a potion if night potion and water breath when go underwater mining.if don't have try get turtle helmet or use stuff that gives air like putting a door to breathe
I agree that an infinite water source is much better than a cauldron you have to refill, but ever since 1.17 when dripstone was introduced I've started using the cauldron again, with the pointed dripstone in the ceiling and water source above to refill it. I prefer the look of it to a little pond tucked in the wall but up until that mechanic was recently implemented I agree that cauldrons were pretty useless for it's original purpose 😂 Might need to set up a few of those cauldron fillers if you're going to be brewing a lot, but I don't really do a lot with potions so 1 is enough for me 🤷♂️
I covered that in a much earlier episode, but we'll talk about it when we run into more negative status effects! Witch potions, Bad Omen, and Wither are probably the best examples
@@Pixlriffs it’s definitely worth mentioning that milk removes positive and negative effects alike. I learned it the hard way when reading an ocean monument with water breathing potion. I thought I was so clever to bring a few milk buckets against the mining fatigue effect…
this start my day so well !!! (6 am quebec, canada !), I would Definitely do something with that under water Geode like making a staircase right on top and have like a crystal research and extraction facility building !
what if you could craft fermented spider eyes with slime balls and make a new ingredient called black goo. Black goo could then be added to glowstone to make darkstone and darkstone powder. darkstone would work just like you would think, the opposite of glowstone where it saps the ambient light in an area making it darker like the warden. darkstone powder would be used in potions to make ‘twisted’ versions of other potions.
if it feels more organic to you then put a nether wart then put a blaze powder in then put a fermented spider eye in then you also get a potion of weakness (its a waste of netherwart and blaze powder
When going in underwater caves for mining, you might as well bring a potion of night vision along with waterbreathing, so you don't have to worry about lighting :)
it also helps with knowing when the potions are running out, as you'll have the screen flash a little as the night vision wears off
I was hoping to, but I haven't found any carrots in this world yet 😅

Pixl! Your clip got into gamers react! Where you get into a boat with a creeper
so helpful! thanks
ooo water exploration
I think you should maybe demonstrate that you can drink milk to remove the potion effects.
Great video and keep up the good work
I covered that in a much earlier episode, but we'll talk about it when we run into more negative status effects!
11:05 seems like the trader is about to open a floating trader shop 😅 gosh I love these little annoying fellas
Thank you
Woah, woah, woah.
You can invert different types of potions simultaneously??
No one told me the potions didn't have to be all the same kind.
Yep! The 'modifier' ingredient (glowstone, redstone, gunpowder, fermented spider eye) will apply to any combination of potions in the brewing stand.
