+vs cranberry Buns are usually the ones you can buy in the store in the snack section. Honey buns, Cinnamon buns ect. And rolls are the cold ones that you have to cook. That's usually how they are labeled in southern US. :)

If you mean the shells, they are brown or white and the reason behind that is pretty simple: brown chickens lay brown eggs, white chickens lay white eggs :'D
