NEVER thought I'd hear the terms 'draining the balls', 'poking it in the wrong hole' when inspecting a phone. Using a phone, YES! Inspecting one, not so much.
We've reached peak innuendo
Also something with the shaft
Are we just gonna act like he didn’t say Vibrator sus
Yea that was sus and funny ngl
Also the vibrator.
This joke has written itself an needs no further explanation 🤣 Keep it up Zach. Best wishes for you Kambrey and child ❤️

So my mind wasn't the only one in the gutter throughout this video.
"wrong hole" "draining the balls" "long shaft" " penetration" . You're videos are getting pretty spicy. I'd love to see a team up with @lockpickinglawyer for a April fool's joke
😂😂 no ways! Jerry did this on purpose
Thank God for Zach. I've always seen videos like this and thought, "Wow, I'd never do that." .... until tonight when I did this exact thing to my S22 Ultra. I was sick. Then I found this video and my anxiety attack went away just like that. Thank you, sir!
Did it affect the water resistant ability?
Honestly having done this before, it was only a problem back in the early 2010s where designs were still relatively new in transitioning from sim card trays to side sim trays. I did mess up a microphone a back then and you could always feel like something was rattling that came loose.
And i just did that too - hence i searched this video to make sure i didn't destroy my new Samsung (Galaxy S21 FE) phone - even after i didn't find anything broken. Now i know why.
"Today we're gonna find out what happens when we put in the wrong hole."
"I just gotta drain the balls first."
Zack with the double-meaning jokes, wahaha
I don't understand. What else could it possibly be
@@Tesseract9630 Haha, you will probably understand someday. When you grow older 😂
Indeed, so kinky!

@Luke Solomon same lol
Can *any tool at all in the hands of Zack* wreck your phone?
Yes, it can 😂
The hands of Zack themselves alone can wreck your phone though 😂

Loll doubt, my lg is literally a tank of all phones 🤣 its been ran over. Its had a 50 pound metal cabinet fallen onto it, its headphone jack is completly split in half, the charging port, well, sometimes work.. and i still lov using this phone 🤣
@@Thereisnoname-_- nah? Some people just either don't need to or don't want to buy a new phone.
You do know that buying a new iPhone every time you break yours because of your carelessness is actually bad for the environment right? So much for Apples eco friendly bullshit.
Repair your phones, don't throw them away.
yes we can!
THANK YOU for this video!!! Until I found and watched your video, I was sick with worry that I damaged my new Samsung Galaxy A54 5G phone after I realized that I forced the SIM Card Insertion Tool into the top microphone hole by accident. Your video does an excellent job of showing in explaining why my mistake did not damage my phone.
Jerry is so underated, he's editing is so nice, his content is entertaining plus I love his personality too!
"Today we are gonna find out what happens when we put it in the wrong hole, it should be interesting". I see what you did there Jerry. 🤣🤣🤣

Even if it can't be poked, putting the mic right next to the sim card opening hole is kind of bad design.

Atleast a short video.
Hey Jerry, can you please do a teardown on the new ipad air 5? There are tons of reports on the chassis being really thin and being able to hear the batteries shake around inside the iPad.
You do such a great job speaking practically about structural integrity being important. Patiently waiting for you to drop some knowledge on us!
Wow, I've been waiting for a video like this for a long time. It happened to me by accident that I poked the microphone hole instead of the SIM card slot and then I was really worried whether my cell phone was no longer waterproof or whether I had damaged the microphone with it. So 1000 thumbs up for this great video on this topic. Please test this in your upcoming teardown videos. That would be great and I would be very happy. Greetings from Berlin
same thing happened to me in my oneplus 7t pro. But i took little time extent to press microphone so hard to pull out sim card tray assuming . Later i checked it's working fine.
Hope that he do it all the hole in the phone not only beside the sim.
I did this too!!
@@what31620 What idiot would put it in the speaker hole?
mee too, i do it
This "safe" design may not be deliberate but just a side effect of the components and their mounting method. They probably want to place the SMD package microphone on one of the PCBs they already have for the USB port. That would mean it's mounted parallel to the screen and always off-axis from the hole to divert the sound in. But hey, if it works to prevent accidental damage too, why not!
I remember in older phones,
The microphone is a cylindrical thing that sits right upto that hole
And 2 wires come out of it and are soldered to the board.
I would say first gen of sim card ejection tool maybe it's luck. But now it's by design because someone im am sure did damage a phone like this
You the best person in the world . I really got terrified after inserting the Sim card tool into the mic of my S22 Ultra . Now I feel so relaxed after watching this video . Thanks a lot man 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I am deeply impressed that this video was completely clean. Good job! 👍
@JerryRigEverything Thank you so much for answering this question! You have no idea how happy this makes me. In your last teardown video of the S22 Ultra, I commented on this very concern. I have the S21 5G, and like a dummy I stabbed the wrong hole when trying to eject the sim card tray, and immediately thought I damaged my new phone before I even turned it on. Once I had everything set up I did multiple sound tests with the microphone, talking loudly and talking as softly as I can, and didn't hear any distortion that would give evidence that I had damaged the actual microphone. Your video gives me such a huge amount of peace of mind, and I sincerely thank you for making this video!
Exactly the same for me. Same phone, same problem. Now we have peace of mind. :)
Ill join that gang, did the same myself.
Same! When I made that mistake the phone had been just released and there was not much information. But I guess it's not possible to damage it.
phone gore lol
Yo chill! You could have just asked Samsung if you were that worried!
I can say the vibrations on the S22 Ultra feel a lot different than my S10, and they're much MUCH weaker. Though I don't really mind because my phone is on my desk a lot of the time and the constant heavy vibrations from my S10 would drive me nuts from time to time.
Yes
I switched from note 10+ to s22 ultra and I agree, vibration is very weak compared to 10+
Is it worth the upgrade? I also have an S10 as my daily driver and am thinking about upgrading to either the note 20 ultra or the S22 ultra.
Agreed 100%. The vibration feels so much weaker than my old S10+. It took some getting used to. Even MKBHD mentioned it in a video. Only person I think I've seen to mention it
@@mohammedafzal176 with all honesty if condition of ur S10 is good, than no. I upgraded as my S10 was battered ,scratched and dropped so many times ( how ever screen never cracked amazingly), usb port was flimsly and battery was going out. If you take new S10+ and compare with s22 ultra not much of a difference except cameras.
Yeah I found out about this a while ago. Also putting it on the side probably doubles as an anti pop feature, where the extra air pressure from some sounds doesn't spike the mic and makes it easier to understand the person on the other end. You'd almost say the manufacturers want you to make phone conversations with their products, but who does that 😉
Great video! I bought a s22u and i did poke the wrong hole. I couldn't believe Samsung placed the sim hole right next to the microphone. I did wonder if i caused any damage, but you laid those worries to rest. Thank You.
Same for s21
Same too, i worries my s22u mic and cover ip68 problem, because i push the hole mic so hard because i think the hole for opend sim cover :(
Still safe or not for ip68 after hard push bro?
@@Farih_OnlyOne hello, did you have any problems with the phone afterwards?
Did it affect the water resistant ability?
Have an S22 Ultra, the vibrator is significantly less effective then my last S20+. It's just too weak in my opinion and I miss phone calls all the time because of it. Not the worst thing when you're not expecting a call but still not great.
Other reviewers are saying the same thing on the S22 Ultra's vibrator.
I usually disable the haptics, and only use the vibrator for notifications and ringtones.
MKBHD said that the axis of vibration is different that's why
Yes they changed the motor from a Z-axis to a n X-axis motor
It's crazy how perspective changes after one drains their balls... from the speaker. Jerry: Great job explaining how the vibrator works... in this phone.
Yeah it's not really weak but inefficient. It'll feel really good when you're holding the phone but not so much in pocket.

Nice timing on the video. Received my new s22+ about 2 weeks ago and promptly poked the wrong hole. I knew the phone still worked, but good to know I didn't do any damage. I have swapped a lot of sim cards over the years, this is the 1st time I hit the wrong hole.

Thank you for this video. Being of feeble mind i actually did poke the Sim tray tool into the speaker hole of my new s22 ultra. I was a bit concerned about damage until I watched this. I enjoy all your content but this if found to be useful and not just entertaining.
First day with my Oppo reno 2 i remember having inserted the tool in the upper mike hole. First thing to do was to check your teardown video where you mentionned the fact that i was not the only one😁
Big thumbs-up to me! I talked of the vibration 📳 motor and he's reviewed and torn it down to see how it works. Zack I'm a big fan of your channel following from Kenya 🇰🇪 254. Much love

RUclips's algorithm is really great, because I have been watching S22 Ultra videos because I just got one. And it pushes this right up to the top. Despite the title, thumbnail, and description not mentioning the S22 Ultra whatsoever, it picked up on it being a major subject matter for the video and served it to me on my front page.
And the haptic feedback of the S22 Ultra is amazing. I briefly went from a Note 9 to an A50 when my screen needed repairs, and it was a massive shock going from high end haptics to a basic vibration engine. Even my old Note 4 had better haptics. I am gonna be stuck on flagships from here on out simply because I really enjoy the haptic feedback. Even simple games like Nonogram Puzzle (Picross) functions a million times better with it, and I feel like I even NEED it for typing at this point.
Can't wait for garden update video Zack.
well i have an s22ultra also and i love it, what people say about it about being weak is just to me its more precise, i hate it when the vibrating motor is so loud that you hear it like it was on my s10+ that i have upgraded from. And also samsung has a sound option that actually plays the vibrating sound from the loud speakers to help you not miss calls. The new vibrating motor feels super precise it's like I'm touching the items on the screen and it's also like a sound in the from of vibrations. it's absolutely amazing in my opinion. And thank you for all the teardowns you do ! actually helped me repair (change) my s10+ camera so i could of sold it.
As a s22U user that had the s21U, I feel like this new motor is easier to miss notifications in the pocket and harder to hear on a table, as for the haptics.. *I* don't feel a difference
I assume Samsung S20 is the same with the upper noise cancellation hole as well!!! Thanks for the amazing explanation! Keep up the good work!!
Yesterday I bought a one plus 11 and omg, I stuck the sim card tray in the microphone and was worried it might damage the microphone but good to know it's intact thanks to these protections, greetings Zach
I got my s22 ultra as an upgrade to my note 8
The one major difference is the sound.
The s 22 ultra gives a boost to bass.
For example watching your video on note 8 and s22 ultra has vast difference, your voice has a more basser tone on the s22 ultra.
Watching movie has a whole new experience.
The sound is like a spacial feeling.

True. Upgrading from a single speaker to stereo speakers is huge. I upgraded from A7 2018 to S20 FE 5G and the speakers are so much louder and fuller now. No way I would buy a phone with a single speaker again

A very informative video about vibrators and holes
Omg, seems like you heard my thoughts, my S22 Ultra arrived last week and I made that mistake.
Thanks Zack, now I have piece of mind !
The S22 Ultra vibrator/haptic feedback felt very weak when I was testing it at the store, but then again, I'm used to the one on iPhones and those haptics are known to be some of the very best.
Yup, in fact iPhones were the first to use X axis linear vibration motor on their phones back in 2015. Then Sony added it in 2018 followed by Oneplus in 2019, Xiaomi in 2020 and Google in 2021.
Either my brain is too dirty 😭😂 or Zack has even more exceptional talents and is a brilliant writer 😂
The commentary is on point. My man.
It's not necessarily the two holes next to each other on the s22U that got me but more the fact that Samsung's Plastic covers when you unbox thed phone make a perfect ring around both holes making it look like a dual ejection slot.

It is kinda also true about sounding a bit bigger but that is just a bonus. Dampening resonance is the main purpose.

TL;DR: Putting it in the wrong hole ain’t a deal
I mean, the SIM ejector tool is made of metal and is pretty stiff. I would assume it would damage any phone with a small gap, tbh.

I have actually made this mistake in the past. I owned a Huawei smartphone and I was in a rush and accidentally stabbed the microphone hole instead of the SIM card eject hole. Surprisingly it didn’t completely destroy the microphone. Thankfully that won’t happen anymore as I own an iPhone

Yea well this comment sure as fuck is a disappointment
Lumia 1020 had a sticker that was pointing into correct hole to eject the Sim tray. Top part is very symmetrical and having a mic hole too. Sticker idea was great, but there was also a mistake in early production, where this sticker was oriented incorrectly; arrow was pointing straight into Mic hole... :D Lumia 1020 mics were able to withstand 140dB music in stereo recording, so the device was perfect when filming a live gig.
Thanks for your sharing 👍
That is the question I want to ask
I'm very surprised at Apples design here. I would have thought they'd make it really easy to accidentally damage the mic, it's another source of "sorry we can't repair this, you'll have to buy a whole new device"
Oh my gosh you’ve heard the Yosemite ranger quote too!!! I love that!!

Great video 😂 the little things help
I'm glad to see this video. I'm poked it couple of times
Nice vid, will you be incorporating this test, “entering SIM card removal trays where they don’t belong” in all your durability tests for now on?
Part of me was hoping that one of the microphones would straight up break, because this is what many people think of as THE premiere phone destruction channel, but realistically, I'm glad that none of them did. People are people and people aren't perfect, so it's good that manufacturers foolproof their phones from being destroyed unintentionally while trying to do something that is otherwise intended.
I think the fancy vibrator can do some neat tricks. Like the feeling of a bouncing ball or fireworks I don't notice the vibration while receiving a phone call or text message. Only while typing
thank you for answering my concerns, because I also accidentally poked the mic hole when opening the sim card, I was worried about damaging the mic or the protector of the ip68 itself, hopefully there is a more detailed explanation regarding the mic hole on the S22 ultra when we poke it hard.
