  • From the 1960s through to 2016, some highlights of Dionne's live performances - one of the most under-rated popular singers I can think of, but an absolute powerhouse when she wanted to be.
The performances are in chronological order, and each is dated.

Where’s her Kennedy Center Honors, way way overdue 😤 A career spanning 60 years and not been recognised yet - a damn shame!!!! Someone needs to spearhead the campaign for Ms Warwick to be given her Honors whilst she is still with us. I mean she should be a top priority and as much as I love Cool J and co. , Ms Warwick should have been awarded ages ago, before the recent recipients.

There are some records in which she really showed her range, even in the early Scepter years. Records like "I Cry Alone", "There's Always Something There to Remind Me", "You're My World", "You're Gonna Hear From Me", "What's Good About Goodbye", her recording of "Do Right Woman, Do Right Man", "Where Would I Go", as well as recordings from "The Magic of Believing", the LP she did with The Drinkard Singers.. Her singles tended to be more Adult Contemporary, but her albums always contained showcase numbers.

They have done their time and altho they may not have the same tunes, like before, it dont matter, cuz like every employment....we all retire one day! Dionne style is very different from Cissy. Let's not forget Dionne was a musical director.

    • @JustJJr

Cissy is very different from Dionne. Cissy was was way more heady and operatically shrill where Dionne had a mid chest grounding to her tone. As far as Cece Winans that’s all her mother Mom Winans. She sounds so much like her own mother not Whitney’s.

It seems to me that Dionne rarely showed more than half of her full range and power on her recordings. It's so strange to me that she's known as a singer with an exclusively smooth, intimate style but then she comes out live and belts huge soprano notes! Does anyone know why she chose not to use her full voice on her recordings?

In those days, they wanted black artist to have a white sound. I myself had no idea Dionne had such a chest voice.

Burt wanted someone who will interpret his music the way it is. And they won the lottery finding dionne. Its really the best, because Bacharach melodies are perfect as is.

She was not underrated. she got to go places where other black women hadn't been. she is just modest and she does not talk about it like her other partners in the business. The 70's really put a hurting on her also because she just could not score a hit to save her ass for about 10 years. But by the late 79 she was back! She really is amazing and is a real legend.
