Having grown up with dramatic Italian female relatives, I can say that Cruz's performance is spot on and not over the top. Luckily we didn't have guns in the house but plenty of frying pans and other objects went flying around.

Finally got watch last night. Wow, what a great film, felt like a proper piece of cinema. It has some flaws, and not completely sold on Driver but he was excellent, but Cruz wow, she was incredible, she ate the screen up every scene she was in. Cinematography was absolutely stunning and the driving scenes visceral. The cars always felt one small move from a catastrophe, I was on edge of my seat. This isn't peak Michael Mann but it's not a million miles away.

Michael Mann is a phenominal movie director with an uncanny ability to tell a story. The style he chooses to tell those stories changes from picture to picture giving each movie a unique voice. If there is a common thread to his directorial style, it is to place the audience into the story, to make the viewer a silent, invisible yet involved character. When I'm watching Heat I can feel the bullets whizzing by, ricocheting off the pavement. When Neil is calling Roger Van Zandt from the kitchen of the restaurant, you can feel the steam from the dishwashers hot on your skin. In Collateral you feel like you are in the jazz club, ensconced in a red velvet booth, the live music vibrating through the table. Mann immerses the audience so they can experience what the characters experience. Sidebar: I've read the Heat sequel, written by Mann and rumour has it the film has been greenlit for production.

I saw this movie and was very curious how you would feel about it. Sadly, we disagree on the enjoyment of the movie. This really ended up feeling like a hit piece on Enzo for me. I didn't feel for any characters in the movie except for the drivers who seemed to get short shrift and little respect in life and in death in the film. The performances were fine by Cruz, Driver, and Woodley in that order. I felt Woodley was wasted in this particular role, but I'm not sure another actress would have necessarily worked for me in this film. I really think Driver is talented and you are likely right about his acting track. I think Baumbach and Lee got the best out of him in Marriage Story and BlacKkKlansman. He was the best thing in Girls and I'm sure he brought the most to the character as opposed to the writing and directing. I think he needs some better advice in picking his roles because he's not a box office draw but he could be. I continue to follow you because I love your zest for cinema and you clearly know your stuff!! I will always listen even if I don't agree, but I'll learn something from it. Have a great holiday!!

Long time viewer, first time commenter. You're hands down one of the most cogently articulate film reviewers on RUclips and your discerning taste feels genuine rather than academic. I would be curious to hear your thoughts on 2023 film Red Rooms by canadian director Pascal Plante ... one of the best and yet least talked about films of last year in my opinion. Highly recommended if you are interested in modern thrillers delivered with the artistic yet clinical flair of a Haneke or classic Fincher to a degree. The movie feels tackles a lot of current issues dealing with the consumption of entertainment and the development of unhealthy obsession and it does so without containing any trace of violence or gore or any cheap scares. One of the most tense and intense viewing experiences of last year for me

It took me a while to get into it. I’m not a car guru by any means, but I am into cars and their history and I really appreciate movies like these. It took me a while to really buy Adam Driver as Enzo. Maybe it’s the accent but I just kept seeing Adam Driver and not Enzo Ferrari. Now, on the other hand, Penelope Cruz… absolutely incredible!!! That performance could be an Oscar nomination right there. Lastly, the racing sequences were breathtaking.

I think besides Girls, Marriage Story is definitely in my top 2 or 3 performances from him. He poured so much of his soul in that role, I literally was in tears. Johansson was great too, probably her best to date.

Not a bad movie at all, and I agree it was better than Napoleon and Maestro, but I find it to be cold and clinical and the entertainment value doesn't hold up when compared to so many other movies. Over the last two weeks, I watched 6 movies in the theater, and I found 4 of them to be better than this, ranked below:
    6. Aquaman 2
    5. Ferrari
    4. The Iron Claw
    3. Wonka
    2. The Boys in the Boat
    1. Poor Things
Also, 3 of my all-time favorite movies were directed by Michael Mann: The Last of the Mohicans (1992), Heat (1995), Collateral (2004). This movie doesn't come close to the quality of those 3 and I find it closer in comparison to Mann's more recent movies, Miami Vice (2006) and Public Enemies (2009) which are both good, but a far cry from his earlier movies.
Finally, my favorite movies of the year are The Holdovers, Godzilla Minus One, and Sisu, and once again, Ferrari doesn't come close to these.

Me and my buddy saw the movie the other night. And honestly? Not only did the both of us fall asleep for a few minutes, but we left before the movie was finished. And I'm not throwing hate towards the people behind it or even the actors cause I truly do love some of the people in it like Driver & Dempsey. But I was having a really hard time following the plot of the story itself, and even more so? I had a harder time understanding what some of the things the characters were saying at times. I know that the movie's set in Italy, so obviously they have to sound Italian, and I'm actually Italian myself and some of my older relatives have that thick accent. But half the time, I really felt like I needed subtitles just to understand what was being said.
So overall? This just wasn't my cup of tea. If you we're able to connect with the movie, then okay, that's good for you. But ya, this movie just wasn't for me. I'd rank it 3/10.
