    I understand Wayne Nelson was a "part" of the band and continues to be. The fact of the matter is "none" of the members now were in the band in the 70's when all of their major hits were created and were not on the recordings. That 70's line up had their own unique sound and talent. I have no issues with Wayne Nelson touring BUT he should be called something like Wayne Nelson's Little River Band. To deny the Original and Founding members any use and any form of the LRB name is ludicrous. Unfortunately this is the music "business" and it's all about $$.

      I once formed a group that was specifically for people who have got Autism Spectrum Disorders. This group had been in existence for about 15 years, and I happily went along to it every week with about 10 others who had Autism Spectrum Disorders. Then some of the members thought that they could see fit to start inviting people along to the group who didn't have a diagnosis of autism. When I said that they couldn't keep bringing them along because it wasn't just a one-off, the group and many of it's members turned against me, and I had fallouts with them. Eventually I met with them and it was decided that I would quit their group, but if they wanted to continue running the group with non-autistic people coming along to it then they had to change the name of the group, which was called the Autism Social Group. They agreed to that, and are now officially known as The Barditan Group. Wayne Nelson could easily do a similar thing by changing the name of his band if he is having a dispute with past members of the band about its naming rights.

      Absolutely disagree and the fact remains Wayne Nelson has been in the band 34 years so don't mislead fans about his record. This is a serious musician who honors the LRB tradition. The original members failed to take care of business and allowed one member (not Wayne Nelson) to have the name LRB. That is not Wayne's fault but rather fans are getting a decades old talent like Wayne who played with the originals and that is better than most old bands.

    Everything Wayne says is fine and maybe technically accurate but the truth is this band should be touring as something else and let the music do the talking and stand on its own two feet.
    How would the American fans like it if through luck, dodgy dealings and naivety, five Australians were touring as Journey just because one of the members came in halfway through.
    LRB are used as an example of terrible management decisions and this would hopefully NEVER be allowed to happen again.

    The Tribute act masquerading as the Little River Band: Here is how you'd explain it: Ringo is the drummer and wont let John, Paul and George have the name the Beatles back after they left, Bongo, Mitch and Tony are now playing with Ringo (Wayne Nelson) and he calls them the Beatles.... it basically sums it up

    • @welshieallovertheplace
      @welshieallovertheplace 2 года назад +1

      Yep it does sum it up...it is still Foreigner without Lou Gramm? Is it still The Temptations without David Ruffin? Is it still AC DC without Bon Scott? Was it still Black Sabbath when Ronnie James Dio was their singer? Was it Deep Purple with David Coverdale? Is it still Lynyrd Skynyrd without...well almost everybody these days! I'm not justifying it, nor agreeing or disagreeing, it's just exactly the same situation with all those bands yet they seem to be, for the most part, generally accepted.

Should by quirk of fate , Ringo Starr join one of the tribute bands playing Beatles songs and use the name... • @Paolo8772
      @Paolo8772 2 года назад +2

      @@welshieallovertheplace That's extremely misleading. Graham Goble (for one) no idea what he were signing. For years and without question, members of the band signed a million things the manager asked them to because they trusted the manager who had steered them right until the late 80s. There's an interview from 2020 or 2021 with Goble explaining it; look it up.

    • @welshieallovertheplace
      @welshieallovertheplace 2 года назад

      @@Paolo8772 I understand that completely, and I saw the interview with Graeme Goble who came across as very credible and informative. It made a nice change from seeing Glenn Shorrock bleating on and on portraying himself to be the victim, as well as a very bitter and twisted person; Graeme Goble completely gained my respect. The difference is that Shorrock KNOWINGLY sold his stake in LRB in the 90's despite being fully aware that it had value. He has no right to feel hard done by, he wasn't coerced into signing anything, in fact he was offered the chance to buy the name Little River Band and turned it down. That information all came from Graeme Goble himself. I don't think my comment was misleading in that the former members knew that Little River Band still existed but didn't do anything about it for thirty years until they wanted it back. Richard Branson couldn't sell Virgin Atlantic then, in thirty years, start a company called Virgin Atlantic. Likewise, if he felt his company name was being used unjustly while he wasn't using it, he would be well within his rights to dispute it in court. The former members of LRB were in exactly that situation, in all honesty I feel Glenn Shorrock is more to blame than anyone else; Stephen Housden just acquired the name by being the last member of the MKII version of the band and probably had no malicious intentions when he carried on the band name completely legally. I challenge anyone who gained complete control of a profitable business to turn it over to a previous partner, I doubt many people would do it!! I really enjoyed Graeme Goble actually explaining what happened and his account was very believable, Glenn Shorrock just gives short sharp answers blaming everyone else when he knows he f****d up but would never admit it. Wayne Nelson is just making a living, legally, and never professes to be an original member, although he wasn't far off. The whole situation will never be resolved to everyone's content; whether legally or morally right or wrong, the name was signed away completely legally and with full understanding by one member, and completely legally with a certain amount of mismanagement and naivety by other members. Juat a footnote...isn't Glen Wheatley, the manager who 'ripped them off' all those years ago, still involved with Glenn Shorrock professionally?

    My issue with nelson & houssden is why block anything the original members want to do with LRB. If they want to sing LRB songs let them. He's very fearful & the guilt from backlash took its toll on he & houssden. Ive listened to some newer lrb songs & couple are decent but the rest were pretty awful & covering some of old songs was painful to hear. Poorly sung & musically nowhere near as tight! Beeb has shown his unsigned contract for the rights so houssden appears to possibly have forged something. This lrb (lower case lrb) is a tribute band at most. Nelson fearful of what he took with houssden. Let them reunite before its too late. Shorrock still sings very well.

    As a professional musician who is currently the front man for LRB Wayne needs to hear recordings of himself singing live and evaluate what songs are in his wheel house and what songs are not. Just saw him perform St. Louis 2022. Some songs were spot on and others well, it would of been best if he let the other singers in the band perform them. Part of being a professional musician is adjusting to what you can do as you grow older. And try to give the best product you possibly can to an audience who loves LRB.

    After seeing LRB in Annapolis, MD around 2 years ago, I felt like checking off another great musical show from my musical bucket list. Honestly, I knew that there were some personnel changes, but not privy to the lawsuits. I was sitting literally next to the sound man in Rams Head--a seriously nice man--and heard a fantastic mix. I'm a 70's child and that music is forever engrained in my psyche. It's unfortunate that the music business focuses more on the bottom line instead of just being grateful for some music to experience while we are still on Earth. I'm a musician and perhaps I'm projecting... However, I'd like to focus on great music before I kick the bucket. Wayne: You keep doing what you're doing! There are people that respect you for carrying the torch all of these years... Best, EJ

    A nice man who is still out there getting it done. I like and admired the original lineup. Their last, and perhaps their best album was “Time Exposure,” which Wayne Nelson was a part of. After Glenn Shorrock left in 1982, John Farnham replaced him. Farnham has one of the best voices in the business,. After a few good charting singles, the sales slowed down and one by one others left, and Steve H. bought the others out. It happens because in the end, entertainment is a business.

    If nothing else the LRB saga just proves that it is the SONGS that matter and nothing else.
    A similar thing occurred with Fleetwood Mac, when they went through major line up changes, BUT, when Buckingham and Nicks joined, the songs were so good that no one gave a crap that they didn't sound like the early, bluesy Fleetwood Mac with Peter Green, they simply, developed a new following through producing great songs.
    If the current version of LRB had of carried on, and produced great songs, nobody would mind, but they simply haven't.
    They just get audiences for the songs that were written by the original song writing Team of Gobles, Shorrock and Birtles, who also had great harmonies, with Shorrock having a distinctive, easyily recognizable sound.
    Therefore, it's no surprise that this current line up gets criticized, because they just haven't come up with the goods, as far as songs are concerned, they are, literally, just a tribute band, who's Management has black banned the original Members.

As band members left, Stephen Housden was the last man left with ownership in the corporation. From a sentimenal stand point it kinda sucks, but it is a business after all. Wayne Nelson is not Glenn Shorrock, but he does have a good voice and he has been with the band since 1980. I"d like to see BSG back, but Nelson has every right to be there. The LRB conundrum is complicated to say the least. That Birtles, Shorrock and Gobles can’t use the LRB name anymore seems a shame, injust even. Not so. Here’s why. When LRB decided to call it quits in the late 80’s/early 90’s Steve Housden, the guitarist, and Wayne Nelson, the bass player, wanted to keep the band going so Housden legally purchased the name. Birtles, Shorrock and Gobles AGREED to this action. Housden and Nelson moved the band to the U.S. and continued on. Years later, BS&G decided to reunite but , legally, they couldn’t use the name anymore. The US version is NOT an LRB tribute band, they have released many CD’s of new original material. Very good music! What’s the best solution? All these guys from the last LRB Australian lineup need to work out their problems and reunite. That would be Birtles, Shorrock, Gobles and Nelson. They’ll need a new lead guitarist and drummer, Housden and Pellici are out of the picture. Let’s face it, folks, they’re almost to the point of not being able to do it anymore anyway.

      Not true. Goble didn't know what he was signing; like a million things the manager had given him to sign before he assumed it was managerial mumbo jumbo. Do your research before saying things that aren't true. He's even done a video called "Someone's Stolen or History" in 2006. No original member of the band his happy about it. Where do you get your information anyway?

    • @tassherb
      @tassherb Год назад

      They ARE a tribute band. They are making a living off performing other peoples' songs. The only difference between them and any other tribute band is that by sheer luck they can use the band's original name to promote themselves.
      Not that there is anything wrong with tribute band per se, but the problem in this particular case is that the original members of the band - the ones responsible for writing and recording the hits - are legally prevented from using the band name - even in their own country. Housden and co have gone to great lengths to ensure this.
      If this lineup is so confident about what it is doing, let's see them do two things - (1) tour Australia calling themselves LRB and (2) in performances in the USA let them perform ONLY material they have written. Let's see how well they do in either or both of those cases. Won't happen of course as they know the reaction they would get.
      The sad thing is how many dumb Americans there are who think they are seeing the real thing in action.

    Birtles quit in 83 because he no longer wanted to tour, and never came back. Groble quit in 92 because he wanted to be doing studio work and didn't want to be touring playing the greatest hits. Groble signed away his legal rights to the band. If he didn't understand what he was signing, maybe he should have gotten a lawyer. Shorrock left for good in 96 and turned down requests to come back.
    I hate to say this but there are no original members of this band by their own choice. These guys gave up their rights to the band yet they decry losing what they walked away from in the first place. Wayne Nelson may not be an original member but he as been with the band 37 years when Birtles was there for 8, Groble for 17, and Sherrock for 16. Hell, Groble and Birtles even were looking to throw John Farnam under the bus in 84 when they approached Nelson to replace Farnham, just like they unloaded Shorrock a few years earlier.

    Some unfair negative publicity around this band, in particular, the LRB fan base - to do with ownership of the name. Wayne Nelson and Stephen Housden(both hit songwriters and Mark III members) continued on as LRB for many years as other founding members peeled off to pursue other interests. These two core musicians worked the band hard for many years, touring and recording regularly. Over a decade later, three of the long gone founding members decided to regroup as LRB and wanted to start over with yet another lineup. Meanwhile Messers Nelson and Housden had built a good business over the years that employed a number of people and netted them income, success, and recognition. They were expected to relinquish the name and go away quietly? Law suits and injunctions ensued and thankfully LRB continues to run as a business and world class act. This lineup is strong and stable and should be respected not only for pushing back, but musicianship as well.

Just because someone owns the trademark and business name of groups like LRB, The Temptations, The Beach Boys, The Mills Bros., The Platters, or The Guess Who does not mean they are the talent that these entities were known for. It's their legal right to advertise and operate under a piece of paper. BUT...if they are GENUINELY WHO AND WHAT THEY CLAIM TO BE,...they should have no fear in letting originators perform under a different name with the post script & "Formerly Of..."in their promotions. If they try to block competition by those who have creative claim to a legacy and a song catalog operating under a DIFFERENT name....THEN they are posers and frauds no matter what a piece of paper gives them claim to. This bloke says he may want to come to Australia one day to perform and that`s why he won`t allow them to. All that I can say to this bloke is If you intend on coming do so in the summer months. That`s when tomatoes are at their ripest and the weather is favourable for a free for all. I`ll be there with my "salad". " Oh look up there in the sky.. It`s a bird! ..no it`s a plane.. " you know how it goes. I guess I`m expressing the sour grapes that Graeham Gobles did`nt express in this interview. Even Americans feel slack for what this bloke has done. Not an ounce of decency or fair mindedness. The original band members had no idea that they were signing away their rights to using the name Little River Band, from ever performing under this name until it was too late.. ruclips.net/video/z9i__i-4hAI/видео.html

    I think y'all the hatters are missing the point, where all the original members of LRB are now? The singers can't sing anymore and the players got fat that can't even hold a guitar.This guy still rocking and is keeping the Band alive and well.Get over!!!

      NOT bashing him - just calling a 'spade' a 'spade' - - He is NOT "The Little River Band" he played bass and tried out singing one track in the studio, while they were waiting for Glenn Shorrock to arrive. The rest is history ... He hijacked the name and that makes his representations of being an original LRB member dubious, and the band currently (ab)using the name are just a cover outfit - Jamie, if YOU don't know the back story, then you're just another ignorant 'yank'

      Written by someone who is not in this group. As is the case with all the other LRB hits they play on stage.
