One of house music’s true originators, Todd Terry was first discovered by pioneering New York house imprint Fourth Floor Records. Along with Mike Delgado, Todd was instrumental not only in establishing the label’s early catalogue but in the future of two of his friends on the label who became a household name: Masters At Work. In fact, it was Todd that gave ‘Little’ Louie Vega and Kenny ‘Dope’ Gonzalez the moniker, having used it himself to release productions like these two tracks ‘Alright Alright’ and ‘Dum Dum Cry’. Both records, originally released in 1987, exhibit Terry’s musical roots, combining hip-hop breakbeats, powerful electro-funk and playful freestyle melodies in his inimitable style.

First time I heard this as a kid it blew my tiny mind. This track still slaps today.
Wow this take me back to my freestyle hip hop days and still blows me away! I think Todd Terry was involve with this group and has his sound all over it. Before Louie Vega and Kenny Dope started to go by MAW. I need to get this record back and I hope it’s not rare or super expensive.
When I worked at a popular record store call Star Records in San Francisco, from 90 to 92. I was the in-house dj and every time I played this, someone would ask me where they can find a copy.

Todd Terry, the guy with sooo much talent that he had to go by at least 5 aliases: Black Riot, Orange Lemon, Royal House, Swan Lake and The Todd Terry Project. Let me know if I missed any.
Fun fact: my wife doesn't realise it but I named her second Puggle (dog) Buddy for TT's choon "Yeah, Buddy", she gives me the strangest of looks when I call out "Yeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaah, BUDDY!". 😂😎

I dunno how many were just him or what was used for collabs, but Jeebus, he was/is prolific!
I think also Royal House with Can you feel it? Oh and I loved all the Todd Terry Project 12”s and I think he had 7 or 8 vols. I was a big fan from the beginning and was working at 2 of the main dance record store in San Francisco. So whenever Todd put something out, I had to have it.
I also met him briefly at the winter music convention in Miami in 2000 or 2001 and went both years when all the best djs in the world went to represent.
Oh and my bad and o see you already mentioned the 2 o put down.
Well, I just found out today, that Todd produced this girl freestyle group song called “ the girl’s club” and the song is called “The Love I lost”. Check it bc it’s one of my favorite freestyle songs and wasn’t a big hit and didn’t get much club play,
And before MAW took this name. I got to meet Todd Terry in Miami around 2001.
