I respectfully beg to differ. The helically wound inclined plane (screw) method requires a LOT less expensive hardware and no hydraulics. This is a great application of the concept. And don't call me Shirley!
Approximately 70+ years ago my grandfather in Switzerland designed this splitter, and after we moved to the states my dad built one in the mid 70’s using a Briggs and Stratton gas engine to get a patent and sell to a large company. John Deere, Briggs and Stratton and several others were very interested in it, but as some of you have stated they couldn’t come up with safety features, keeping someone from sucking their hand or worse through it. It’s still the best splitter I think, glad to see some of you building off my grandpa’s idea
This is a valuable addition to my woodwork collection ruclips.net/user/postUgkxkNYRBJuiJ6EwD-tQSAlxg0eFKsnR2cgz I still will rate this woodwork plan as the best in my reference library. It always seems to stand out from the rest whenever you go through the library. This is a masterpiece.
Nice build. Have to say your workshop is looking great. What a top working space and I really like how open it is. You must have good weather, not too much rain.
As someone mentioned before, some emergency stop is a must for this kind of machines, because like it or not, accidents happen, and machines don't forgive. this is a great project though :)
I know the comments are necessary but youtube trolls and the Internet experts are so annoying. Keep up the fantastic work man.... you do excellent work!
Your computer needs an emergency stop switch, timed for 5 minutes, so you get off your ass and actually do something instead of being the internet safety police.
This is false , it use 2x more when stoped, compared when runing. www.wired.com/2011/11/power-and-electric-motors/ And even if that is case, your safety it thing u can not buy
Shut-off switches are a darned good idea to include with any tool or machinery that could be dangerous that way, lockouts are imperative while working on the stuff... There was a technician working on an elevator on board a cruise ship (A Carnival Ship, if I'm not mistaken.) And the worker either forgot to put a lockout on the circuit, or someone tampered with the lockout, and he was literally sliced in two And a passenger got video of the scene with he waterfall of blood... The cruise line tried to buy it off the passenger before they uploaded it, but they wouldn't sell it. They cruise under the laws of Panama, and they haven't got the worker safety laws we have in the US. Most of the copies were taken down, it was awful.
hello MIE, So how did you make the keyway. I think I can get away with that on my rf31 if I lock the spindle. A small relief under the bottom of the cutter? Cut angle? Another inspiring project thanks! I'll contribute a idea... pick-up truck jib crane...
I can see how a screw type log splitter would be more dangerous, but as long as you don't wear loose clothing and be careful im sure you'll be fine. and when i saw this i thought I've never really seen these commercially available, but to me the screw type seems faster to reset the next log, no pulling a lever or pushing a button, just push on the next log and boom, there ya go. plus I've seen some of the smaller "hydraulic cylinder wedge" type splitters struggle on not even very big logs... but because the screw type is always spinning and is sharp, it cuts through as it splits and never slows down. I really like the screw type, especially if there is a gas version for my acreage where splitting literally tons of logs by hand with an axe gets quite tiring, I do find it fun, but when you just need wood quick for a fire, the convenience of a splitter would sure be nice.
That's got a real widow maker vibe about it. Still a tidy piece of working kit, you'd want to watch yourself with it though, no more that 3 or 4 cans while using it.
Stick or ARC welding is a lot harder than the type of welder he's using. Though I do prefer it when need more penetration or am welding less than perfect surfaces.

Make it Extreme Compared to your other builds this is more of simple machine but it is hecka useful. Like
Make it Extreme This Video is good as other of your Videos 👍
Make it Extreme No Thanks ...
Surely a better idea would be a plate pushing the log onto a split wedge.?
I respectfully beg to differ.

Nice build, looks very sturdy. That will be splitting logs for years to come. 👍👍
Please do a shop tour video if you haven't already I would kill to have that machinery
cylo lloyd .. make it.. he sells you the plans
A bigger scale version of this would be dope. Obviously installing several more safety features and such would be highly advisable.
Just woke up and this got uploaded, off to a great day
same
Agreed!
You deserve to have a tv show. . you are the best in build machines and tools!!!! congratulations for your videos in hi definition!!!
Thank you very much for the kind words! :)
I always found them super interesting to watch!

The minds of genius at work again.. Nice work guys!
Thank you! :)
One more fantastic job guys! Works like a charm! Thanks for sharing!!!
Glad you like it!
freaking amazing!!! such smarts. ingenuity, un-conventional and talented!! love it!
Wow that's such a cool way of splitting logs
As someone mentioned before, some emergency stop is a must for this kind of machines, because like it or not, accidents happen, and machines don't forgive. this is a great project though :)
Never been a fan of these types of log splitters but still it’s pretty nice
Damn fine work! You must have been raised by parents like mine,
"If it's worth doing, it's worth doing it RIGHT!" Dad AND Mom...
Dude, what a build!!!!
Thanks Dude! :)
Fantastic work guys!!
Thank you my friend!
awwe yes, a video just in time for lunch, love you guys!
Love you too! :)

You guys are seriously f***ing awesome!!
You've made a useful machine, good what you are made
Thank you!
please make a lathe for metal spinning procces! thanks for all you videos!!
Very cool as always...
Thank you! :)
Hoodie with loose rope running around the neck. Perfect choice when running rotating machinery.
I know the comments are necessary but youtube trolls and the Internet experts are so annoying. Keep up the fantastic work man.... you do excellent work!
Thank you very much! :)
You should think about some emergency stop switches (maybe also one to be triggered by foot).
I really like your videos :)
Your computer needs an emergency stop switch, timed for 5 minutes, so you get off your ass and actually do something instead of being the internet safety police.
Dont be stupid bro, it is nice idea, and will save on power bill
It takes as much electricity to start an electric motor as it does to run it for a minute.. Just how much are you saving?
This is false , it use 2x more when stoped, compared when runing.

really you are professional i loved your work
Gracias por mostrar y compartir tan buenos proyectos. Te felicito
no sir thank you for makeing such good videos for us.keep it up
Do you have any ideas for working safety?
But i can say that is a very cool tool
Well, very practical and useful. GREETINGS !!!
Thank you!
Beatiful work
Thank you!
Yess dude! Keep em coming you genius, always a great watch. Well done!
Glad you like it!
Hevy Duty Splitter even for logs i think , nice project
Hi Great work your welding is one of the best i have seen.
Thank you! :)
awesome brother!!
Thank you!
keep the good work up i love it
that was slick i have to make one what type of motor should i go with like size and voltage since i live in the United States
Mad skills bro.
I hope you made it pedal operated because that can easily fuck you up if you get caught in it lol

Taking those strings off his hoodie would be a good start to not getting sucked in that thing...
Absolutely love your videos , thank you 😊
Thank you!
complimenti per tutti video
as always, just amazing
Thanks!
É a melhor já postada no RUclips !!!parabéns.
obrigado
Γεια Σου Μάστορα !! Πολύ Ωραιο Το Σχιστικό Ξύλων !!
Ευχαριστώ φίλε! :)
nice project
Thanks! :)
Great video as always!!!!
Thank you!

excellent sir
great lathe film work too.
Thanks!

Please tell about your cutsaw . I want cutsaw like yours.
amazing! next belt grinder, regards from uruguay
Thanks!!! Enjoy! :) goo.gl/xGdOdJ
Жуда ажойиб.
Nice!!
I like how you secured the gas cylinder against falling.
Great way to make a key way
Would it be possible someday you to try to create Make It Extreme Cold Cut Saw?
yeah, the good music is back!
:)
That's got a real widow maker vibe about it. Still a tidy piece of working kit, you'd want to watch yourself with it though, no more that 3 or 4 cans while using it.
as always a great job... i like the idea... keep the videos comming bro.
Thank you!
james bond killing machine!
haha! :)
Would be nice to see how you made the splitter cone. But hey.... nicely made!
good job buddy
Thank you!
Very good
Thanks!
As much as this is extreme, I really don't find it dangerous for user, like all other screw log splitters are. Great work, guys!
Thank you!
awesome work! What chop saw and blade are you using? thanks
Would have worked without the knife! Great stuff...
cool project, I'll do anything for welding skills like this...
on second thoughts maybe not anything but a lot of practice
You would be surprised how easy welding with a mig welder like he's using is. I've seen guys put down decent welds their first day using one.
I did a little stick a while back but, it's not really hard but it definitely needs a lot of practice
Stick or ARC welding is a lot harder than the type of welder he's using. Though I do prefer it when need more penetration or am welding less than perfect surfaces.
Search for the chanel "Welding tips and tricks", you will become an Jedi of Welding
which saw you are using ? Want one too
Good job guys ... =) keep going.
Thank you!
Nice. rather see more of the machine than splitting. does cone turn right or left?
Muito legal seu trabalho
Parabéns
did you make the spiral thread your self?
great video btw!!
Could you make an automatic surface grinder? I'd love to see you do it
Bloody brilliant ! Not sure it would work on the Aussie hardwoods I have to deal with though.
pretty nice, but the screw needs more bite on start and i would put some 90deg curves on end to push the halfs to side.
Perfect.
Thank you! :)
Τώρα που κλαδευουμε τις ελιές είναι καλό εργαλείο για να σκίζεις ξύλα. πολύ καλή δουλειά :)
Ευχαριστούμε! :)
NICE!!
:)
Good 👍👍👍
good job
best channel
Thank you very much! :)
Where did you get the splitting cone? Did you make or buy? If bought where? I would like to make one for tractor PTO
Daaammmmn guys, you're really good. here i have a new challenge for you: can you create a lathe machine?? would you like to achieve that project?
thats awesome
Thanks! :)
very good 😉😉
Thanks!
powerfull. awesome
Thanks!
Yep, making one of those now too!! Thanks! You should set up a contest where one subscriber (ME) can hang out with you at your shop for a day
awesome build. how many hours did it take to make?
nice one
Thanks!
