    I bought the RG8 as my first non-beginner guitar, and I must say that it feels, to me, like an way more expensive guitar! It is so fluid, well made, and overall good! I now need to get good lol.
    Thank you for your comparison/reviews, I like what you're doing!

    Great review and comparison! I really enjoyed it. Easily the best demonstration I have seen of these guitars since, as you may suspect, many other videos explore the distorted/metal applications, but not so much the clean sound which is still important aspect of many players. So I am glad that you spent a good amount of time showing the difference between the clean tones.
    Great video. Thanks for making it!

    Neck is not the same !
    Rg8 -55mm (width at nut), 80mm (width at last fret), 20mm (thickness at 1st), 21.5mm (thickness at 12th), 400mmR (fretboard radius)
    TAM10 - 55mm (width at nut), 80mm (width at last fret), 19mm (thickness at 1st), 21mm (thickness at 12th), 430mmR (fretboard radius) ( like TAM100 and 2228 )

    very well done demo. i was thinking about picking up the rg8. i know it plays well(from experience). and as you said the electronics could use an upgrade, which i dont have a problem with at all because upgrading them is easy. Im a huge fan of clean playing so it was great to see an 8 string without some djent. as awesome as it may be

I will definitely be switching out the pickups for DiMarzio as soon as possible. Oh yeah, by the way, mine is in white. I agree, it looks better than the black one. Cheers!

    I'm thinking of getting the RG8 and adding some heavy bottom strings (for some more low 8ve E tightness), then replacing the Pick-ups with Fishman fluence ones later on down the line.
    Because I'm thinking of using it for practice during the summer holidays first, then using birthday money for new Pick-ups.
    Is it a good idea for the RG8? I just hope it doesn't have any limitations other than the Pick-ups.

    If it's a musical instrument, it's pronounced 'base'. If it's a fish or a wood, it's pronounced "bass", rhymes with "class". Great and informative reviews.

    I think the price of the TAM10 is outrageous considering a Prestige 852 is about the same exact price. I'll just throw some ionizers in an RG8.

    Great review, thanks. Im also in for a 8 string, im using my universe uv777 for years now. No cash to get the RG2228 and swap the pickups so i think this should be my best bet. Gonna try a vew 8's out soon. A lot of mixed reviews on the net so dont know what to expect but hope it isnt a big step down from a prestige.

      UVs are wonderful. I sold mine to get 2 different 8-strings, and now I'm regretting that I didn't wait just a few months for the TAM10 to be revealed. I would've bought just that one instead, had I been aware of it in time.

    Really great review! You're a really talented musician.
    I've owned some Ibanez Prestige sevens before, how would you compare the RGIF with the prestige-series in terms of quality? The iron label part kinda has me worried.

    • @berndkiltz
      @berndkiltz 9 лет назад

      +Ulf Larsson Hmm, never owned a prestige - but i played some jems from the "old days". Would say that prestige quality is a touch better, but nothing that could not be tuned with 100 bucks at a good guitar luthier!

    • @ulflarsson1685
      @ulflarsson1685 9 лет назад

      That's good to now! I've played some jems also, and they are really good quality. So I'm guessing the RGIF is a "safe" bet?

    • @berndkiltz
      @berndkiltz 9 лет назад

      +Ulf Larsson There are always to things I wanna tune on any guitar: The saddle hight is not optimal and I like the frets with the edges, not rounded. A new fretjob with my favorite luthier at zeal-guitar.com is about 200 bucks. So... calculate that, and you have a PERFECT guitar. And this is complaining on a VERY high standard. Compare the fret job on a american standard strat and you will just laugh for days. :-)

    • @ulflarsson1685
      @ulflarsson1685 9 лет назад

      Hehe, well I have laughed at quite a few guitars in my days ;) Sounds like Ibanez really has something going with the RGIF. I'm giving it a try. Thank you very much for your help :)

    • @berndkiltz
      @berndkiltz 9 лет назад

      +Ulf Larsson Yeah, it is. The only thing maybe is to let the saddle be adjusted a little lower. BUT that is also a matter of taste - if you play a lot of djent stuff it probably should stay a little higher. I see no difference in quality between the TAM10 and the Fanned Fret Iron Labels.

  • @chiobes
    @chiobes 8 лет назад

    Hi there! awesome reviews! I bought an RG8 recently. Right out of the box, I tuned it to standard and the 8th and 7th strings tension is too loose so the strings would get flappy/rubbery thus the strings would rattle all over the frets. Is this normal? Did you experience this with yours? Any tips or solutions?

    • @berndkiltz
      @berndkiltz 8 лет назад

      +chiobes Maybe you have to adjust the tension of the tussrod. It is possible, If air humidity and temperature differ from the place the guitar was before. Other than that, the stock strings on the RG8 are pretty thin, I would put thicker Strings on it. At Least a 74 on the Low F# and a 62 on the B. Other Strings to your liking. I recommend D'addario 8 String sets for that.

    • @chiobes
      @chiobes 8 лет назад

      +Bernd Kiltz Thanks for your quick reply Bernd. Appreciate your input. I'm very sure the issue is not the neck rather strings: 8th and 7th. The guitar came with a d'addario tag, so I would assume the strings are d'addario 8-string set. The 8th string seems pretty thick, though. I'm thinking perhaps tuning them an octave higher to correct the tension? Or would that feel weird...(playability wise)?

    • @chiobes
      @chiobes 8 лет назад

      +KolyaTheSlayer :з thanks for the tip. D'Addario is sending me .070 and .080 while Ibanez is sending me a whole set of .009-.074. So, we'll see how they compare. :-)

    Which 8 strings would you recommend for mostly clean sounds playing?

    • @St0ckwell
      @St0ckwell 4 года назад

      Whichever one you can afford! 8 and 9 strings were made for clean playing. They existed in the 1910s, 100 years before djent. Djent is for boomers at this point. I only play 8 string acoustic. The clean, tapping, slapping 8 string revolution is here.

      @marktorres1545 8 лет назад

      I doubt many would, however opposed to the about 4000 you would pay for the TAM100, this is "budget". 😕

    • @CLaw-tb5gg
      @CLaw-tb5gg 8 лет назад +1

      I only really think in pounds cuz I'm British, but for me budget is about £350 or less. £350-700 is midrange, £700-1200 is premium, and £1200 up is super-premium. Something like that, anyway.

    • @marktorres1545
      @marktorres1545 8 лет назад

      +Charles Carr I agree. If anything, I would consider the RG8 to be the true budget version of Tosin's guitar. I own one and I have to say, it's really quite good and can be found for a very affordable price; especially if you can get a used one on eBay.

    The Tam 10 more "versatile," MANY more pickup configurations, options, and clearer at clean settings. $1,300.00 U.S. The RG 8 $400.00 U.S., usual 6 string control. However IMO a fatter, more powerful gain tone, clearer, more punishing. Lead on the RG 8 reminds of a LPS. Best suited of the two for it's purpose. $900.00 U.S. price differential.

  • @iwo1621
    @iwo1621 6 лет назад

    Moin, netter vergleich!
    Die RG8 habe ich jetzt 1 Jahr.
    Stimmt, die original Saiten waren einfach misst! Ich bin direkt, wie bei all meinen anderen Gitarren auf Elixir umgestiegen.
    So habe ich den Satz für 7 Saiter "Elixir Nanoweb 12057 Light 7 String" 0.10.- 0.56 aufgezogen und als tiefe die "Elixir .068 Electric Guitar String".
    Klingt dadurch um Welten besser, ich habe sie auch normal gestimmt F# - e und nicht wie original einen halben Ton tiefer.
    Ich spiele die überwiegend clean und bin mit der Besaitung sehr zufrieden.
    Zu den Tonabnehmern kann ich nicht viel sagen, mir fehlt was an Bums bei der B und F# Saite...
    Vielleicht sollte ich mal investieren und die Abnehmer tauschen...
    Spielbarkeit? der Hammer!!!
    Ist halt ein Ibanez Rennhals, super flach und liegt perfekt.
    Barre Griff über alle 8 Saiten, kein Thema!
    Geiles Brett jedenfalls!

    Im not sure he quite gets the point of an 8 string :p you shouldnt really get something tuned so low if youre playing classic metal or thrash. A seven string is more than enough if you want to play low. Theyre really more suited to progressive metal genres, tech death, or jazz, where the extended range is most useful. Nonetheless, its a good tonal exhibition, and watching someone play funk on an 8 string was amusing
