I just wanted to show you some support. When I turned 30 I started to have all kinds of random allergic reactions that I never had in my teens or twenties. I've also been gaslighted by so many black stylists that I go to an Aveda Salon where the majority of the clients are white. My stylist has curly hair and is Polynesian and he actually listens to my concerns. I've been with him for 7 years and it's taken that long to trust him to color my hair and get my hair to a point that it was healthy enough to take colour and bleach. While my stylist was doing my trims and Olaplex treatments, I found a black trichologist and her daughter in London to explain to me what was going wrong with my hair and my scalp. First they said that I probably had an allergic reaction that triggers inflammation in my scalp. Also I take medication and have oxidative stress and I'm a thalassemia carrier. All these things combined around age 30 and it only took one product to trigger the reaction and yes it can be an organic product Now I only buy small bottles of products with a small number of ingredients on the list and I put nothing on my scalp except the trichologists products or scalp specific store-bought that are not oil-based products. Yes, organic oils make my scalp itch. I work in retail and hair products ( and cosmetics) have an expiration date. Also, the environment that they are stored in can affect the quality of the product. After my trichologists fixed my scalp they told me that for my hair I needed to apply leave-in conditioner and steam every day and apply deep conditioner and steam every week. I also have to shampoo every week especially as soon as my scalp starts to itch!! My trichologists also do not believe in styling products, dyes, extensions, wash and go's and blow dryers. Now I'm not saying I follow everything they say but when I follow their basics to the letter, my hair flourishes and my scalp is calm. Their advice is best practice to do as much as possible especially if you are having issues. One day my Aveda stylist tried a new shampoo on me. and it itched all the way through conditioning and back to the styling chair so I asked him what he used and he took me right back to the shampoo bowl washed it out and started over with a different shampoo and conditioner. That is why he is my stylist. Unfortunately, a lot of stylists are not trained to deal with product issues and they are also pressured by brands to promote their products so they are often too scared to question a brand and push back. Although my salon is an Aveda salon, it's not run by Aveda and it uses other brands. It's run very much like and independent salon and stays true to the owner and founder's vision. my trichologists make their own products so they know exactly what is in them and if a product doesn't agree with a client they can make a bespoke product specifically for that client. It also helps that both professionals work in tandem to spot problems..instead of against each other. My trichologists make sure my hair and scalp is as healthy as possible and my stylist creates a cut and a colour and a style that I can manage at home. I don't let my trichologist trim my hair because they trim it in a way that I can't manage it at home. For an intensive scalp and hair treatment, I go to my trichologists instead of my stylist. I suggest following Curly Chemistry to get an idea of how products are formulated and how they can have a positive or negative effect on your scalp and hair. I hope that you can find a stylist and a trichologist who can get your hair, scalp and confidence back to an acceptable level for you. Hugs. Fellow sister sufferer of hair loss and RUclips lurker.
Thank you… I mean THANK YOU!!! As a fellow RUclips lurker, I appreciate you commenting. Your comment resonated with me and my independent research I have been doing. I recently suggested to a friend to seek out a trichologist for her scalp issues but maybe I should do the same. I have never experienced an allergy to this degree beside from nickel. I understand now why it is important for a stylist to be agnostic concerning brand so they don’t try to make a product work for everyone’s hair. When stylist start to promote one brand it runs the risk for errors. I don’t think many stylist are trained to handle allergic reactions. The fact that your stylist walked you back to the bowl speaks volumes. I still can’t believe my previous stylist was so stumped that I had an allergic reaction and did not respond quickly. Ever since I had that experience I have been open to all stylist regardless of race, ethnicity, and location. A black stylist doesn’t mean she or he are more certified or experienced. To anyone who may be reading this comment. Please take the time to read the above comment. Please take your hair care journey in your own hands. Research products and how they are formulated. Blind trust should not be given but Trust should be earned.
@@SimplyTamz I learnt so much going natural and trying to do my own hair that I would have never learned if I had stayed relaxed and tied to a salon. When the pandemic closed all hair business in London, I was absolutely ok because I knew how to do my own hair without damage and with which products. Sure I'm not as good at cutting, colouring and styling as professionals and I dont' have all the fancy equipment but I know the basics now of what to and what not to do with my hair and scalp to keep it as healthy as possible. I can pick up a product and read the back of the ingredients list and know exactly what it's going to do with my hair and scalp. I've never bought Innersense 1. because their Instagram profile/marketing does not look like my skin color ( medium-brown black skin/ Fenty 400- 498) and my 4c hair type. Lol! 2. I looked at the ingredients of their products and said nope not moisturizing enough. If I told my stylist that I was going to stop using leave-in and apply 3 gels he would look at me like I'm crazy and I wouldn't dare tell my trichologists this. Lol! My trichologist tries to talk me out of my hair dye. Lol! I had an anxiety attack because I never bleached my hair before and was convinced I would be bald ( too many RUclips bleach disasters watched- Brad Mondo). My stylist chuckled but then told me everything he was going to do step by step, low and slow, held my hand all the way through and told me if it starts to hurt at any point, tell him so he can wash it out!! Well 6 months later I still have hair and no bald patches so all credit to my stylist. Lol!
@@marleyhill34 😂🤣😂 your stylist sounds caring yet funny! If you ever decide to make a RUclips video I will be front and center. I had locs for most of my life and I didn’t have the best hair care practices. I pretty much left my hair alone. So when I cut them off I had no clue what I was doing. I was trying to learn from RUclips and slowly but surely stocked piled a crap ton of products but still didn’t learn a thing. I will give BGC one thing, the breakdown of education for hair care minus the insults was great for me. I learned a lot from the books and side searches I did. I think I was too focused on what my hair should look like versus what healthy hair looks like for me. There is an emphasis on how the curls will lay and the hair will behave but it’s not dogmatic. Hair is unique and there are many complexities to hair health.
I just wanted you to know that you inspired me. I have scheduled with a trichologist even though I have a dermatologist. I just want a second opinion from someone who specializes in scalp and hair issues.
seeing recent updates frpm people that are finally speaking out about innersense when it's all the curly salons use these day is SO vindicating!! i noticed recently my hair was falling out more whenever i used it but couldn't find anything for a while about that specific issue and thought i was going nuts
Oh wow. An allergic reaction. I have a gel by Innersense and I’ve never had a problem with it. I’ll be sure to keep an eye on it though. Hair loss is scary and depressing. I’m glad your hair is on the mend.
If you haven’t experienced an adverse reaction that is great! In the future if you do notice something is off please just wash your hair and don’t take it lightly.
I stopped going to my curl stylist after she gave me the wrong color and also gave me chemical burns on my face and around my hairline. It wasn’t until I decided to self trim my hair 3 months later that I found split ends (later determined to be compromised cuticles from severe dehydration). I feel for you because I believe these products and practices ruined my hair. I’m glad you are on the mend. Your hair and color look FIRE 🔥
😳 oh my word…. I am so sorry that happened to you. That sounds painful 😣. I believe the same thing about the products and practices. I don’t think the products are that good but they seem to be entangled with the company. The practice of using 3 gels with no leave in is absolutely ludicrous. I’m happy to hear that you took your hair in your own hands. After my experience I started doing some heavy research myself. I’m still discovering new things as I go. I wish you the best on your hair journey.
I just got to the last part of your video and I want to say publicly THANK YOU for standing up for me! I truly appreciate you Tammy‼️♥️💯 Also, thank you for being brave enough to share your story. I know it’s not easy to do. I have mad respect for you beautiful! 💯♥️🙌🏽
Thank you Shelly. You don’t know this about me but I strongly dislike bullies. It’s not right to attack people for no reason. Thank You for being brave and sharing your story with us. Thank you for weathering the storm that came after. I got your back and I’m here to help support you.
So sorry you went through that. Glad you’re on the mend. Please note that organic or natural doesn’t mean you won’t have a reaction. People can be allergic to organically grown items. People are allergic to nuts, different oils, strawberries, apples and although extremely rare there are people can even be allergic to water. Organic only means grown naturally without pesticides etc. it doesn’t mean you are not allergic or intolerant. Best bet is to check the ingredients of the innersence against the stuff you like and note which ingredients are in the innersence, but not in your normal stuff, and avoid those ingredients going forward.
Thank you so much! I’ll take inventory of the ingredients that was in that gel and cross compare with my current products. I was just so shocked because I don’t have any known allergies and I had been using the company as a whole for years. I definitely learned my lesson. Organic doesn’t equal non allergic. Thank you!
@@SimplyTamz Oh they switch up the ingredients...which is why I always read the ingredients on everything I buy now. Oh every decade or so I have a new health problem Lol! Welcome to getting old. 30 was allergic reaction to hair products. 40 was lymphatic system malfunction.... I dunno know what 50 is going to be....maybe psychotic menopause. Lol! My sister said that my mother was not a nice 50 year old I'd already left home by then. 😅😅😅😅
@@marleyhill34 I had no clue!!!! I had been using the brand for over three years. I don’t typically check the ingredients once I discover something works for me. In my mind if the formula changes an announcement will be made. If not for nothing this process is definitely making me aware of my blind spots and ignorance into haircare.
@@SimplyTamz Oh they switch up and make zero annoucement! That's why a lot of people left certain brands......no names......lol! I've watched enough RUclipsrs show the front of the exact same jar and then turn it around and the back is different. yeah, they ( the capitalists) be playing with us. That's why my trichologists make their own products. Heck I even read the ingredients on my Quaker oats box in case they decided to add something in. lol!
I don't know how they can bill this gel as botanical or organic when it contains potassium hydroxide, which is LYE. It, also, contains gluconolactone, which is an acid much like glycolic acid. This is not a toxic ingredient but it can cause irritation and inflammation of the scalp, which can lead to excessive shedding. I think companies, like this one, count on us not reading and researching their ingredients and, instead, relying upon the hype of marketing and money deals with certain influencers. I pray for the full recovery of your scalp and if your beautiful hair ❤
😢 thank you so much. I think I blindly trusted my stylist and the products that were marketed to me. I now look at the ingredients in products and check for harmful ingredients.
@@SimplyTamz We've all been there. I start out reading ingredients via the Tightly Curly method by Tori/LaFlesh and The Curly Girl Handbook by Lorraine Massey which explained sulfates to me. Lorraine's book never said not to use shampoo. She said you can use a non-sulfate cleanser. I've always shampooed with those just not weekly as my trichologist told me to do. You have to know which ingredients to use when and when to stay away from certain ones. If I eat too many strawberries or kiwi fruit my tongue starts to tingle but I can still have strawberry ice cream. 😅😅 I put grease on my ends in winter once a week and avoid putting grease on my scalp.
It's actually insane. I googled and found this "Lye isn't organic, but it is one of the allowable non-organic ingredients included in USDA organic standards since their inception."
So happy you chose to make this video and I am so sorry about your experience. It's awful to suddenly lose your hair. I had a terrible time with all the Innersense products I tried. They made my hair hard, stiff and dry. I thought maybe I was doing something wrong, but my stylist (not a CIK stylist, just a regular natural hair stylist) told me to stop using them immediately. Even though BGC might have suggested these products before their partnership so there wasn't financial gain, they also pushed them forward in a way that made it clear that they wanted some kind of partnership or something that would allow them to profit from the relationship. They also made it seem like if something they used didn't work for you that you couldn't possibly be telling the truth. It was always, "It's your fault." There is no one product or method that is going to work for every person out there. The comments on this video alone make that clear. We all have different experiences and we should all feel comfortable trusting our gut.
I definitely got that vibe and message from my previous curly specialist. I use to complain about single strand knots and struggling to detangle. She told me I was being too rough, I needed to add more water, and several other methods. I think it’s important to listen to a client when they saying a product or method doesn’t work for them.
One of the things that put me off of blackgirlcurls is that they spoke down to people so much, and made people feel like they couldn't trust their own experiences or intuition. I remember Aiesha constantly saying 'you just don't get it' when referring to hair, you would think they were talking about rocket science smh. They made us feel like our experience of dry hair was wrong. Love the colour of your hair by the way.😊
Thank you 😊. The undertone and demeanor was a little too nasty for me so I discontinued the online community after my initial time period. I’m all for educating the masses but in a respectful way.
So sorry for your hair loss. Happy to see your hair is on the mend. So I’m not crazy. Bgc claims to be brand agnostic, but I always felt like they had some sort of arrangement with Innersense.
This is my opinion but when I looked closely I saw how involved they were with the brand. From trips to classes and everything else. They even had one of the part owners at the time do an ad for them. That doesn’t scream brand agnostic to me. I get having a partnership with a brand but be honest and transparent about it. There is no need to act like you’re doing all these things for a brand out the kindness of your heart.
So sorry to hear that you went through that! 😢 The innersense line could be organic/natural and still cause an allergic reaction. Hemlock grows out in nature but it's very toxic. I've been learning recently that a lot of products marketed toward natural hair are actually bad for hair. 🫢 I've found most gels in general to be very drying. I don't like how my ends feel after I use them for more than a couple days. Glad to hear that your doctor and new stylist have you back on track to healthy hair! The colour and cut look wonderful and I'm sure it will grow back beautifully. I've seen other people recover from similar hair loss, from a bald spot to midback, so it will happen for you! 🙏🏼
Thank you so much! My hair is weathering the storm and being so resilient. I didn’t know much about natural hair even though I had been natural for well over half my life. I had locs before so I didn’t do much upkeep. You are correct about all those gels and it’s sad because certain methods push for you to keep your hair in for 7-14 days. I’m back to the Anthony Dickey way now and my hair loves it. Initially I wasn’t sold on the organic piece but like you mentioned organic can still be harmful. My new stylist even mentioned that it could had been formulated incorrectly.
You definitely are not alone. I had an allergic reaction to ICH and UFD. My scalp was super itchy. I ditched all Innersense products, UFD, and my stylist after talking to my dermatologist.
Wow! So sorry you experienced this. Glad you have a dermatologist and new stylist who helped you get back on track. I had a bad psoriasis flare (which I didn’t know I had). My dermatologist got me back on track. A few times my scalp started itching while still taking my medication. After reading these reviews, it may be the gels (ICH and UFD).
@simplytamz The itching happened immediately. Same with my mom. I just didn’t realize what was happening until the itching was more intense. I spoke with my curl specialist and she said to use less UFD which didn’t help. She also said some stylists whether they admitted it or not were experiencing issues themselves with the products as well.
Girl thanks for sharing. I stay away from these salons and "stylists". I learned how to do my own natural 4C hair and don't need to depend on anyone to make my hair cute. I do it ALL myself and love my hair. Also, I tried some of the Innersense Products a couple of years ago and they made my hair tangle up badly. It was strange. As expensive as they are, I threw them all away.
Learning your own hair is a game changer. The more who reach and share their experience with the brand the more I am starting to realize something is wrong.
My hair and scalp don't like expensive products. Lol! Too many ingredients. Lol! I want to be all bougie and my hair is like let's just be a beach bum. Yup my hair and scalp like daily swims. Good thing I'm happy to sacrifice style for swims too.
Yep, the innersense shampoo constantly tangled my hair even when it was detangled prior, even after using Treluxe shampoo which would leave my hair soft. I did like I create hold, only gel that actually laid my edges lol. They didn't stay laid because of the humectants though.
It sure doesn’t and I have learned so much. Always look at the ingredients in a product and listen to my body if it’s trying to tell me something. Thank you for watching.
You can still have an allergic reaction to organic, natural, high-quality ingredients. Organic neem oil didn't agree with my sensitive skin and gave me an eczema flare up. She should have done a patch test first
You’re absolutely right! Organic doesn’t mean the absence of an allergic reaction. I think I was shocked because I’ve never had a reaction to any hair products.
Let me say first I am so sorry this has happened to you. You are so brave for making this video and Sharing your experience. Yes there is something definitely and I am reassessing my product. And your color is beautiful and you have such beautiful curls.
You are so welcome. So many companies also don't list all ingredients. I had a severe reaction to some of Aveda hair and skin products as well. The Allergy clinic reached out to them. They would not reveal all ingredients. So I made a decision to stop using the product line all together. So definitely test everything. Be well
I use Aveda but in rotation and I have been lucky. What I will say is that Aveda uses a lot of ingredients and my trichologists' products have an ingredient list of 10 items or fewer things. My trichologist said that all these extra ingredients are just a set-up for people's sensitivities to be triggered. Sure my trichologists' products do not feel, smell or look luxurious but they are not for that. They are to help heal people's scalp and hair. They look and smell clinical and medicinal because that's what they are. I started having reactions to products at age 30 and now I'm 42 and I can't use disposable feminine hygiene products. I've had to switch to all reusable products that I can wash with a very gentle soap. At least I know what reactions are possible now and anything that makes my skin itch or tingle or throws off my pH is out of the door! All the fun and games of getting older!! I hope everyone is healing well.
Im so sorry that you went thru that, and im glad you are speaking up on it. At this time, I'm only using their conditioner and theor leave in. bc their so expensive. Thats the only products ive had success with thus far. I initially came across your video bc im looking for dupes
Since finding new products I realized the conditioner wasn’t as hydrating as I thought it was. I think L’Oréal is a better duper and much more cost efficient. It’s their Ever Pure line that I really enjoy. I use that line for my hydrating shampoo and conditioner plus the protein line as well.
I’m so glad I came across your video. Although I didn’t experience hair loss my hair was definitely dehydrated and feeling extremely rough. I finally followed my intuition and stop using all of their products. When I came to the end of the video and realized we had the same stylist, I was floored. I only went to her once but I stopped the process before returning. Yes something isn’t right with Innersense products.
I’m so glad you went with your intuition. Those Innersense products are dehydrating and destroying people hair. She is not my stylist anymore and I hope all of her clients get a second opinion of their hair. Check out my why I stopped getting curly cuts video.
Ty for sharing. I had an allergic reaction to the products as well. My scalp itched so badly it felt like bugs crawling on my scalp. There were none! I do not have dandruff or psoriasis, etc. there was no other explanation. I stopped using the products and the problem ceased. I went back to my trusted Keracare shampoo and conditioner.
I was happy to share my story in hopes that it might help someone else. I’m so happy you were able to identify the issue and eliminate it from your routine. I’ve read so many comments of people losing their hair or experience hair thinning. I’ve been searching for new products ever since.
I tried the Innersense leave in from Dec 2021 to Mar 2023. I used it with every other wash, and it would leave my hair dry too. My scalp was always 'hot' and itchy. I feel the conditioner reacted to my blow drying, and made , whatever ingredient, burn my scalp more. My crown is still very choppy, but slowly growing back.
I have a little update: So I took pictures around the time that I was using the innersense conditioner I noticed some thin spots, being that I still had damaged hair follicles from getting relaxers as a kid I figured it was that. I had ran out of the innersense conditioner and didn't bother repurchasing it. Took photos recently and noticed that my thin spots weren't so thin anymore. Its not hard to figure out the common denominator, any remaining innersense products that I may have no matter how full will be going in the trash.
At the time this all happened I just thought it was isolated to that one product. As people started commenting on my video, I quickly realized it’s the whole brand. From the shampoo, conditioner, gels, and stylers. I had salon size products and still threw everything away. I was going to give the products away but I realized it could damage their hair so to the trash they went. I’m happy you are seeing progress.
I need to do a little research to see when I started using Innersense. My daughter has lost hair and I had started using ICH on her hair. After I noticed how much of her hair fell out, I stopped using it etc. I feel sick to my stomach right now. I will have a hard time if this is the reason for her hair loss.
Oh my gosh! If it is the product it is definitely NOT your fault. The brand markets itself has organic and clean beauty. After some more research from a few followers it has been discovered there are harmful ingredients in their products. Also a lot of people are reporting irritation from botanical gels. I don’t think anyone ever thought the products may cause hair loss.
So many people have commented the same thing under my video. I would highly recommend discontinuing the products if your daughter is experiencing a large amount of shedding. I don’t know if the brand reformulated or all of the different essential oils are irritants at this point. But something isn’t right!
I started using innersense within the past year and it’s certainly thinned out my hair. In the past month I’ve had significant hair loss when brushing that’s I’m now discontinuing using it. Only the shampoo was used in the scalp the conditioner was used on the ends. My hair used to be super thick and wavy and now it’s thin.
I’m going through this with my daughter right now. And chunks of hair keeps coming out. She has a bald spot in the back that hasn’t grown in for over a year now. I legit cried this evening because my gut is telling me it’s innersense. My poor baby
@@yakinbblI am so sorry to hear this! It just kept getting worse everytime I used it on her hair. I stopped using innersense and it stopped. I tried it again about a year later and same thing!
Right there with you with Innersense. I’ve stopped using their shampoo and conditioner products. I had hair thinning dramatically. Starting to loose much hair over time in clumps and I’m super healthy. My hair started breaking where it looked like I had been electrocuted, it is terrible. It was maddening when other people try to blame my body for the issue which it wasn’t my body and no one can tell me otherwise!! Stop using that brand! Keep conversation open keeping awareness of companies that are ripping us off. Keep up the communication
Thank you so much for sharing your experience. Did you go to a doctor or trichologist to help restore your hair? I completely stopped using the brand a few months ago. I’m sure my hair is cheering with joy. Some people did ask me if I had a number of illnesses and alopecia. I didn’t immediately reject their ideas but I know I’m healthy. I’m military so we are always being poked and probed to ensure we are fit for our missions. I had no prior health concerns other than an elevated A1C level. The product literally took my hair out.
Thanks for your video! I am sorry this happened to you. I think what we AND some professionals need to realize is that everything isn't for everyone. AND that some people will have allergies and sensitivity to products that many other do not. Your clinician should not have minimized your concerns especially when you had proof. She should have said to wash it out and had you come back in ASAP. We can be allergic to organic products. Also a lot of stylists don't know how to use Innersense so they don't teach their clients. Innersense needs TONS of water added. Also be careful of products that use several essential oils. If they don't have the proper carriers they can be harmful to your skin. I am so happy your hair and you are on the road to recovery.
Thank you so much! At this point I think their products weren’t working for my hair for a very long time. Someone else in the comments mentioned essential oils and how it could have been the culprit within the product. I will definitely be taking inventory of the ingredients in my current products. It’s so many things to look out for that I regards to products. Thank you! Comments like the one you have left me helps me with deciphering what I need to be on the lookout for.
I'm sorry this happened to you. I too jumped on board with BGC's and used the tried and true Uncle Funky's Daughter with Innersense ICH. My hair felt stripped and dehydrated afterwards. I ended up returning the products to the store. For that price point I was not pleased with the results and I know the application can be a little tricky. I have been maintaining my hair as best as possible since my big chop in August 2022. I am still on the hunt for a cosmetologist in my area. Best wishes on your journey. 🤗
Thank you so much for sharing. Before he curl party and posting this video I felt alone with my experience with the brand. So may people have been sharing their own personal journey with the BGC method and recommended products. I know I am not alone and I am so happy I shared my experience. Thank You for watching and sharing.
So sorry you’ve been through this. But my hair & scalp just loves Innersense. I’ve had bad seborrheic dermatitis and it’s one product line that does not aggravate it - it’s actually made it better. And my hair is thriving, even as a bleached blonde. Been using it for years, recommended by a curl specialist that has no affiliation to any type of “program” at all. Just goes to show that we’re all so different in terms of how we respond to both individual ingredients and also the entire formulation. Because reactions could be to either, and whether they are “organic” may not matter at all. Allergies can also develop at any time.
Products truly do perform differently based on the individual. I am so happy to hear you have found products that works for your hair. My friend has dermatitis and I know how much she struggles to find products that work for her. I had her try my Innersense products but unfortunately it didn’t work out for her. Thank you for watching 😊.
I Never had any reactions in my LIFE. Now my scalp itches badly and it smells moldy after using ICH even after washing ... The other comments Saying people have reactions to organic products doesnt make sense for the volume of people with this issue ...
I thought the same thing. I have hundreds of comments with people having an allergic reaction to Innersense products. I think something is wrong with the entire line itself. It’s sad because BGC and CIK have a brand deal with them and keep pushing them to the Black community. Smh. At this point they are no better than the same influencers they dogged out.
So sorry this happened to you. So thankful you did not have oermanent hair loss. I have not used Innersense but I had an allergic reaction to Uncle Funky's gel. I learned I am allergic to nettle. It scared me so much I took it out of my house immediately. Glad you are on the mend!
It’s just so strange how the body just develops an allergy without letting us know lol 😂.. terrible… I’m sorry to hear about your reaction to UFD. I hope your hair is on the mends as well. Thank you for your support and comment.
My new stylist said my hair was severely dehydrated too. That’s after following said method and believing my hair was the complete opposite! According to my dermatologist I also, had an allergic reaction to the botanical gels. It’s crazy how we are going through this and experiencing this! LISTEN TO YOUR HAIR!!! 💯
Oh WOW!!!! I am in complete shock. 😳.. Before the curl party I felt alone in my experience with Innersense. After sharing my story in RUclips more people have came forward with their experience with the brand. So many people are reporting allergic reactions. I’m just not sure about the company and what is actually happening with their products. I’m so happy you’re with a new stylist that is invested in the health of your hair.
@@SimplyTamz I wrote a whole novel and it disappeared 😝 I said…..you are NOT ALONE! I’ve heard several say they are allergic to that brand as well as other botanical products. My dermatologist actually told me it’s very common for people to be allergic to plant based products. So I’m not surprised. Girl I swear I have learned so much since going natural this time around. It’s been wild! 🤯
@@SimplyTamz Oh yeah that because the ethos behind locs is to put nothing in your hair. Lol! Watch Yannie the Locologists. Growing up all the Rastafarians I knew never used any hair products. Just river water, sea water, rain water, some aloe vera plant, a little oil ( too much oil attracts lint) and they wet their locs every day and they kept their locs covered at all other times.
and listen to your scalp...Lol! When my scalp start acting up, I go straight in the shower with my scalp shampoo. Even just rinse with water works wonders. I’m so sorry this happened to you thank you so much for telling your story and I hope all the very products and health and wellness comes you way as that must have been a horrible time to go through. Don’t listen to anyone else who tries to gaslight or dismiss or discredit what you’re saying.
I’m so happy to find your video! In November 2023, I was on my sofa and felt coolness on the top of my scalp so I went to the mirror and saw a bald spot about the same as you. Also, my hair was coming out from the scalp. Keep in mind Innersense was the most recent product in my hair arsenal. Trying to figure out what was going on I deduced it was either the hair color I was using at home or the Innersense. So I decided to forgo the use of color and Innersense. Fast forward 6 months later my hair is on the mend and the gapping bald spot is recovering. In short, Innersense is NOT my friend, we have severed ties and I have gone back to co-washing every 2-3 days and using a gentle shampoo 1-2 twice per month and clarifying as needed. Thank you for confirming I’m not alone in my thoughts regarding this product.
No you are not alone. I remember feeling alone about Innersense because people swore by it. After making the video hearing other people stories, I know for sure I’m not alone. I don’t know why Innersense was marketed to us but gosh it’s done some damage.
Hi. After seeing your video I can only say that I am really sorry for the issues that these products have caused to you and I hope things get better for you. I don't live in the USA, but I have curly hair and the curly hair content I consume the most is from african-american/black women from the US as I use TikTok and IG a lot. Since a couple of months I am constantly getting in my FYP or while searching content associated with the 'BGC method' and stylist that use the same techniques/products as them. The first 'red flag' I saw was that ALL these stylist use the same products: either Innersense, AG care and Malibu (this last brand is for clarifying mostly as I saw and/or for hard water removal) not more recommendations (aside from the ones you get by paying in their page). The second thing is that they don't use (as I saw) deep conditioners/hair masks, also as you said no leave in (to put two o three gels after washing like the Uncle Funky's Daughter, Innersense 'I create hold' and from the brand Trepadora or a combination of gel + foam) and sitting in a hooded dryer or diffusing for quite some time without heat protectant because it's an 'indirect source of heat'. Also I've seen that for example, the shampoo + conditioner they recommend from AG care has as one of the active ingredients apple cider vinegar, and I've seen this exact product recommended only for clarifying and to use it once or twice per month, not as an all purpose shampoo. I've seen cosmetic chemists saying that for example, the shampoos from Innersense have too many oils and the surfactants aren't really the best to remove sebum, dirt, oil from the scalp, etc., and it's quite funny because they avise to avoid oils/butters in the top 5 ingredients on the product (or using them in raw) but half or the product (or more) as it's in the case of AG care is a bunch of oils. And God forbid you criticize their method, you'll be always on the wrong and they're always right. I prefer to stick to the products that have worked for me and invest in seeing a dermatologist/trichologist before using any products. Also I've realized the US has looser regulations with the ingredients in cosmetic products, not the same happens in the European Union and even in Canada. That's all I wanted to say, I really hope you can recover your health completely. :)
Thank you for much for the well wishes. I can 1000% say your assessment is correct. The U.S. is really relaxed when it comes to cosmetics and beauty. It’s only in recent years that they have started to regulate the beauty industry. Innersense is full of oils but the most dangerous thing is essential oils. Essential oils are treatments and it seems like they just threw them in there to claim they are organic. It’s very easy to be considered organic in the U.S. The BGC method is very flawed but people will attack you for even breathing a word about it. Many women and men are suffering from following the recommended products list, washing weekly with harsh products, then curly cuts. Most people hair probably can’t withstand the method. My hair is on the mends. It has grown back. I’m working on the thickness of my hair now. I’m glad to hear you’re doing what works for you. 💙
I'm so happy you made this video. I've been slowly removing their products cause my scalp can't last more than 2 days without it feeling itchy and getting flakey. Ima just go back to using Camille Rose Naturals lol.
It took me awhile lol I but I knew I had to be transparent about my experience. Plus I know there are more people than myself who are having an adverse reaction to the products. On Innersense page I saw quite a few comments about itchiness and dryness.
@@SimplyTamz that’s exactly what I was getting. My scalp was not feeling it. So far the only products that don’t tear me up is Camille Rose Naturals, Melanin Haircare, and The Doux.
Very interesting video. I had major issues a few months into the BGC method when I started last year. It started well but my hair started changing after 3-4 months. My curls weren't defined any more, my hair was getting thin and I had scalp issues which my GP said was sebhorric dermatitis without actually assessing my scalp 🙄. I wondered if it was a reaction to Uncle Funky’s or Innersense products. I still have bald spots which don't seem to be growing back but the rest of my hair is growing back thicker now, however you can see the difference between the new growth and old hair as the old part is thin and stringy. I still use the shampoo, conditioner and serenity smoothing cream (as a base) but use a different gel which isn't botanical. I might need to take a break from their products and see if that makes a difference. Thanks for bringing awareness!
Quite a few people have decided to take a break from the brand and their hair is changing as well. It hasn’t been that long for me yet but I will definitely report any changes. You’re not the first nor second person to report those type of issues using Innersense. Please listen to your hair.
I am so sorry that you are going through all of this. I just want to say that essential oils can be extremely sensitizing and irritating when not used in safe concentrations. So it may not necessarily be The products are not organic, It's more so that organic products don't always equal skin safe/hypoallergenic. If the products are not buffered and properly ph balanced it can create a problem. If you were to accidentally spill Is any pure essential oils on your skin it can cause a chemical burn. Please keep this in mind so that you don't have any future issues with any other product lines.
Thank you so much for your comment. I recently went to an allergen and the results lead me to believe it may a formulation issue. Essential oils are treatments. Unfortunately Innersense products have several essential oils in them. I stay away from products now that have more than 2 essential oils ingredients.
Thank you! It took me some time to tell my story but I’m so happy I did. So many people have been able to share their stories with the products and process.
Thanks for the valusble info that you shared. I have been following BGC for a year and using Innersense shampoos , conditioners, and UFD. I noticed that my hair has been shrdding more each wash. Then I went to a dermatologist that told me that my hair was thinning. I brought the Innersense products to her office which she didn't even look at and didn't give me any treatment. So I am now in the process of going to another dermatologist. I will mention some of the ingredients in the Innersense products to the next dermatologist. I really like the wash and gos and hope that I can continue to do it with some new gels that doesn't cause any more shedding.
Thank you so much for watching. A wash and go can still be achieved but with different products. If you think you’re experiencing hair thinning, I would discontinue all products and speak with a professional. Maybe they will be able to figure out which product is causing the shedding.
I’ve been using Innersense for over 7 years and have never had an allergic reaction. I’ve also used it on my chair for my clients. Allergic reactions are not to blamed on the brand. We can be allergic to a specific ingredient or even food, it doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with the brand. Our body’s can reject certain ingredients. It’s like blaming Jiffy if you’re allergic to peanut butter.
@@Ladyjessg thank you for watching my video but I would encourage you take the time and read through the countless comments of other people experiencing hair loss due to Innersense. It seems like every week now someone is contacting me about hair loss while using the brand.
I think it’s all the essential oils.. I’ve also experienced the same problem. A lot of people are allergic to essential oils without knowing.. plus they are SO POTENT and STRONG in innersense
I feel the same way. I’ve used products that had essential oils but nothing like Innersense. I’m Not sure if their products are formulated correctly given all of the essential oils they are using. Another thought: the essential oils give them the ability to be considered an organic and clean brand. I would love to see ALL of the ingredients in their products.
Oh Sis, your video brought tears to my eyes. I feel your pain so deeply. I found out years ago that our gut never lies. "Professionals" are only people just like us, and our gut knows better than these "professionals". Thank you so much for this video I know your hair journey was difficult. God bless you so much for sharing it, and may the Lord continue to restore your beautiful hair. ❤
I too learned the hard way to approach the some of the BGC methods with caution - and with close consultation with a stylist, in addition to plenty of research on folks' experiences. One of the products they heavily encourage negatively impacted my hair. When I was using the so heavily discouraged oils and butters, I never dealt with breakage and loss. It may not be the product itself, but my hair just wasn't responsive, so I've decided to move forward with other products, including those I formerly used.
You are very courageous for making this video. Very sorry that this has happened to you. I am a guy that uses Innersense products and so far everything is okay. Of course what works for me might not work for you and vise versa. I myself am going through thinning issues (thinning at the crown before I tried this brand so it is not the reason) and at the temples. I am currently on oral medication, topical minoxidil and micro needling to try and get my hair back. Having beautiful curly/coily hair is something to be proud of. It takes a lot more care, but once it's cared for, it makes a world of difference which is why I understand why you are spiritually connected with your hair. I am still searching for the best combination of curly hair products that not only hydrate my hair, but does not induce hair fall by irritation or dermatitis.
Thank you so much for watching and sharing your own story. I was later diagnosed with androgenetic alopecia. I am now taking minoxidil, nutrafol, and finasteride. Unfortunately where the allergic reaction took place is in the spot where my family would naturally thin. I have an allergy test scheduled so I can know for sure what ingredients to stay away from. I wish you the best on your journey. I know it’s not easy to lose hair for any reason other than an intentional decision.
I stick to Kinky Curly Curling Custard. It’s an old faithful. My new favorite gel and topper is Enbba naturals gel. Awesome gels alone and in combination.
I've been using Kinky Curly Curling Custard, Uncle Funky's Daughter gel and Enbba. I have a full bottle of I Create Hold gel and I had been experiencing hair shedding, now I'm wondering if it's from that gel. I am throwing it out. I hope that Enbba naturals gel doesn't eventually causes problems. It's so scary to experience abnormal hair shed and loss.
It’s probably better to say that you’re allergic to something in that product. Is your doctor a Dermatologist? You might want to find out what you’re allergic to because other products might have that same ingredients.
thank you for sharing. I no longer use Innersense products. I started using Adwoa and Miche products. I find those brands better addressed my specific hair needs.
@@soleilantillean30 i have used the gel and cream, both work well. however i prefer to style my hair with a mousse. i have fine strands, medium density. I use shampoos and conditioners from Adwoa. My hair does well with both lines Baomint and Blue Tansy.
@@soleilantillean30 if you use it let me know. I’ve been using a few different things but recently I started using Curl Smith gel and cream and I love it.
I’ve only used Innersense Hydrating hair bath, Conditioner and I Create Hold gel. Some people are allergic to certain ingredients. Some people are allergic to Uncle Funky Daughter Curly Magic. I hope you saw a Dermatologist. I’ve used certain Deva Curl Products but I never had issues with it or Curly Magic.
It was the I Create Volume. In the video I have the product and the company response. Yes, I have been working with a dermatologist for almost a year now.
I’m a product junkie. I use Deva curl no poo,I like Influence hair products the Honey Almond line,Amika soul food hair mask, hydrorush mask and yes I use grease and oils.I like Donna’s recipe oil,Adwoa oil.
I definitely think there is a problem with allergies in general in the world at the moment. That' why some people don't have a problem with some products and others do.
I was only using the i create hold for a while. My hair didn’t start falling out until I started using the shampoo. I was using the gel and that was it for a while then I said let me buy the shampoo and boom my hair dries out stop growing and start thinning. I thought it was my health
I believe you have enough knowledge to manage your own hair. Too many stylists don’t manage natural hair in a healthy manner. Take time to read labels and look up some of the ingredients, you’ll learn the best products that work. Many products still have “icky” chemicals although labeled organic.
Thank you ☺️. I haven’t definitely started to educate myself more. I won’t be dependent on another stylist for the health of my hair again. I’m going to be in the know and make the best decisions with my current stylist input. It won’t be based on their sole judgement. I’ve learned to look up every product now and check the ingredients. I definitely stay away from products with multiple essential oils.
I'm so sorry this happened to you. I also had a negative reaction to Innersense products. I had a lovely experience of a cut and shape with a curly hair stylist $$$. I was so happy with my look and was about to order the products but started noticing that I was starting to tingle in my head, face, etc. So 3 days later I was in my shampoo bowl. Upon reviewing the ingredients, I realized there was aloe in the product and over the years I've come to realized that is one product I cannot tolerate- which is right in line with my banana and latex allergy. With some products the reaction is immediate. So needless to say. I now investigate before purchasing and by no means will I trash the product because what doesn't work for me may and has worked for others. I'm so happy you were able to recover your hair loss. And THANK YOU!! for sharing your experience! ~Lynn C
Thank you for sharing your experience. Did you experience any hair loss or did you catch it in enough time? I also have a latex allergy. I’ve known for sometime my body doesn’t reacts well to latex and nickel but those were the only two ingredients I could put my finger on. I really do to complete an allergy test.
Thank you for sharing your story. I've had allergic reactions to Innersense, I Create Hold and I Create Definition. My scalp, forehead and ears would itch like crazy for days even after washing it out.
Thank you for sharing this video. If a product is not hypoallergenic it may cause an allergic reaction. Organic does not mean hypoallergenic. I personally can use Innersense products - but I stay away from any product that have avocado because I have a sensitivity. I'm also thinking some products that have aloe may cause me irritation. Organic does not mean hypoallergenic. Anything can cause an allergy. Dr. Fo Adunni has allergies and she is a really great resource for products that are, for example, unscented since the allergies impact her sinuses and asthma. There are some really good Black cosmetic chemists you can follow, such as Javon Ford, who have great explanations on what goes into products to make them useable for consumers. Organic usually means a certain percentage of the ingredients is organic. Other agents are used to preserve products so they don't spoil, etc. I really recommend hearing what cosmetic chemists have to say because as regular folk, we can get it wrong when it comes to thinking certain chemicals (organics are also chemicals) are good vs bad, based on what we think we might know about them. Again, organic, botanical does not mean hypoallergenic. I appreciate that you had a gut instinct about it. It's an unfortunate lesson for you but thank you for sharing this experience with all of us. - which is why I stay away from certain products.
Thank you for watching. I am aware organic does not mean hypoallergenic. I was more so surprised by the brand and the fact that I’ve never had an allergic reaction to a hair product. This is coming from someone who use to get super perms as kid (not my choice). I don’t know if they had a product reformulation, if the way the product was stored was incorrect, or the products in general are just irritants and my hair finally clunked out on me. Due to the nature of the loss, I only refer to my medical team for treatment. There is a lot of information on the internet and I just want to make sure when it comes to the treatment of my hair it’s tailored to my hair needs. Again, thank you for watching and for your support.
Sis, hair loss is so devastating. I have been there and my self esteem tanked. When I ask the stylist, she said it was my menopause. I am now stylist, chemical, hair dye, and heat free. I may roller set on medium heat.
@@stars-are-us thank you so much! I was devastated initially. It took me some time to recover and regain my confidence. What I didn’t know, when the hair goes through trauma so many other conditions and issues can develop.
Innersense products have gradually given my discomfort at back of my head and now seeing online there are many experiencing similar issues as me. I’m definitely going to follow my intuition as you’ve said and phase them out of my routine. Thank you so much for sharing your story.
I’m so happy this information was informative for you. It was alarming hearing everyone else experience with the brand. It made me feel like I’m not tripping and something was off.
Did you ever find out what exactly caused the allergic reaction? Did you get an allergy panel done to figure out what ingredient may have triggered it? I have used that specific product for years and never had any issues. But i am so curious to know what it was specifically if you did allergy testing?
@@FaithInCurls I am allergic to cobalt and nickel. I did complete an allergy test. Those two items are not in Innersense. I concluded that the formulation is off or something in the product isn’t as organic as the brand claims to be. The brand uses several essential oils which can result in an allergic reaction a well. I’ve had a few people comment about the combination of the essential oils without enough carrier or how they could interact with each other negatively.
I used (I created hold ) one time in a small section of my hair. It made my hair so hard like it was HARD I Immediately washed it out. Innersense is a very expensive product brand. It is not made for my hair Periodt. Queen I hope in time your hair grows back healthier, thicker fuller n long.
I'm so sorry you experienced this ,I had a reaction to synthetic hair white bumps and a lot of itching I spent 260 dollars on those braids but after 4 days of no relief and on going itching and my scalp was beginning to also become red I took the braids out and I listened to my inter wishen and everyone said yes you were having an reaction to the synthetic hair so happy I listened to myself and I'm happy you are on your way to a head full of healthy hair.
I’m so glad you listened your hair scalp. As someone who got faux locs and had to take them out a few days later, I know it was tough. At the end of the day our hair is more important than a protective style.
Medication, food, products etc all can create a negative reaction in a person. Organic and natural included. Camille Rose makes my skin and scalp itch. It works fine for others. We unfortunately live and learn what works for us and what does not. Noone can regulate how every thing will affect everyone. Glad you are on road to recovery.
thank you. you confirmed an awful lot. im a women much older than you. I have never experienced so much distrust in the industry. I have not been to a salon since 2011. I take care of my own hair I have real trust issue. Im too old for any hair setbacks. I have innersence in my stash---a number of samples and a full size deep conditioner. never used them. cannot tell you why. and this 3 /4 gel process that is everywhere. WHY??? This is being pushed on us. Lets stick with what we know. And there are good salons out here.
I have my suspicions as to why the brand was pushed onto us but it’s nothing positive. Hair setbacks are difficulty so I am happy to hear you’re being very cautious. The 3-4 gel process sounded legit because they was telling us to keep water in hair and that was all we needed 🤦🏾♀️! Meanwhile the gels are hard, drying, and anti humidity. Our hair wasn’t getting any relief. I’m so glad I have found not one but two good stylist. I also have a dermatologist and I just booked an appointment with a trichologist. I’m not taking any more unnecessary risk.
I just bought 3 Innersense products and although I haven’t tried them they are going right back to the store after hearing your story. I have had a bad experience with Giovanni products so I can see natural herbal ingredient products like these causing problems. Sorry this happened and thank you for sharing!
Absolutely! My hope is that my story brings awareness to this brand and the many other stories told under my video. Kudos to the people who can tolerate Innersense but I’m not one of them.
My hair & scalp loves Innersense. I’ve had bad seborrheic dermatitis and it’s one product line that does not aggravate it - it’s actually made it better. Been using it for years, recommended by a curl specialist that has no affiliation to any “program”. Just goes to show that we’re all so different in terms of how we respond to both individual ingredients and also the entire formulation. Because reactions could be to either. So sorry you’ve been thru this.
FDA regulation needs to happen. I broke out in hives all over my upper body after using Innersense I create volume while in the shower. I started sneezing initially, and then later started with itchy bumps. I’ve got pics. One thing to note though, we can be allergic to natural products too. I used a natural skin care line that I purchased from an aesthetician. I spent about 500. My face would itch when I used the products. I called the aesthetician, and she didn’t seem to believe me. She recommended that I pick up PCA Clini Calm. Clini Calm is a steroid cream. Now, I stay away from products with long ingredients lists and essential oils etc because I’ve had atleast two instances where these “natural” expensive product lines didn’t work for me. I hope you have continued success in regrowing your hair, and we must remember to listen to ourselves. We know our hair and bodies better than anyone.
I really pray more people report the company and products. At this point there are over 50 to 100 comments of people sharing their experience with the brand. So many people are reporting an allergic reaction. Thank for your watching and sharing your experience with the brand.
Oh my! I identified that the shampoo caused my shoulders to break out in hives. It took me a few months to narrow down which product. Earlier in the year, I ended up getting ear infections and eczema on, around, and in my ears, hair line, and face. I have never had eczema before. I used the products and did not have reactions. Starting this year my body changed or something. I stopped the shampoo and I no longer have issues of any kind. No ear infection, no eczema, no hives. I still have the gel that I haven’t used in a while but I’m nervous to try it again. I’m sad that other people are having issues, I’m also relieved bc no one really talks about this line except that it’s all natural.
@@charriemac1 oh wow!! Quite a few people have left comments about hives. I’m so glad you were able to identify the issue and eliminating it from your routine. I’m still not convinced that the products aren’t truly organic and safe.
My hair has been falling out recently and I thought it was from hormones, covid, etc. The more I think about it this all started when I started using the Innersense products. I was ignoring it, but now I am going to trust my gut. Thank you!
Please trust your gut. My stylist at the time tried to pin it on COVID but I never contracted COVID nor was I going through anything medically. She was in such denial about Innersense being the culprit. I could have saved myself possibly by following my gut. I hope your hair grows back in stronger and better.
Oh my gosh! I did a pixie cut a hair ago and I have been using this for a year and my hair is so thin. It was recommended my a curly hair specialist. I always had a feeling it was innersense. I have never seen my hair this thin before.
I hope you are able to stop using the products and your hair recovers. Unfortunately I’m still on the path of recovery. So many people have reported problems with this brand but yet the curly specialist keeps pushing this brand. It has impacted males, females, all age groups, and races smh.
A good friend shared your video and I applaud you for sharing your story. Someone recommended Innersense I Create Hold to me, but the ingredient list includes potassium hydroxide. I know some companies claim to use only a small amount of hydroxide for I forgot the reason, but I don't think putting any kind of hydroxide, sodium or potassium, in our hair is helpful to us especially in light of the studies that show how damaging it is to our health. In 1999, I had a bad reaction to a texturizer that took out my hair. Normally I did it myself but wanted to treat myself, so I went to a salon to have it done. During our consultation, I gave her the product I wanted her to use (mild strength) and said it only needed to be in my hair for a very short time. All I wanted was to loosen my curls a little, not straight hair. Pretty soon after application, my scalp started to burn, and the hair stylist was nowhere to be found. I got out of her chair and went to the sink to rinse my hair in cool water. She appeared suddenly and I told her to get the product out of my hair, etc - she said it's only been 5 minutes! I told her that was 3 minutes too long! When she finally got all of the product out of my hair, I asked her what she used - and she said extra strength - because I had coarse hair and she thought blah, blah, blah. I was so angry I couldn't stay there another minute and left. I washed and conditioned my hair again when I got home to ensure all of the product was removed. Others said I should have sued her, but I was only concerned with my hair. That product dried out my hair and caused it to break off. I did most of what you suggest, saw a dermatologist, for medical care and have my hair trimmed every 3-6 weeks by a barber until all of my damaged hair was removed. I have never used any chemical in my hair since then and have been natural ever since. I still worry about ingredients, so I only do my own hair; using ayurvedic products and a wonderful deep conditioner made by two people I trust. Thank you for speaking up about product reaction and providing instructions on good practices to follow. Bless you and continue to speak up.
Thank you so much for sharing your story. I am so sorry that stylist was neglectful and didn’t listen to your request. Sometimes stylist think they know best and ultimately end up damaging our hair. I am so happy you found what works for you. I am still in the process of finding the products that will work for my hair. Thank you again for watching.
When I started my natural hair journey, I experimented with products. My hair was healthy and beautiful. One day I tried orx biotin volume shampoo/ conditioner. But I then noticed my healthy natural hair kept falling out non stop. I went to Amazon to see reviews one lady who is white wrote a reviewed saying she experienced Severe fall out. I now stick to what I know works. I also learned to never go to professional salons. I went for a trim after I gained lots of length. She chopped a lot of hair. I decided to care for my hair. My hair is extremely healthy it has been 5 months and I gained length and thickness.
I had been using Innersense for years and didn’t notice a reaction. I later realized my hair never cared for the brand. It was a learning experience for sure but I know a lot now. I still believe in professional hairstylist but my vetting process is particular before I ever go.
Thank you for sharing this video. I thought I was going crazy. My scalp has been itching and burning like crazy since using Innersense. I’m going back to using my old and trusty Alba botanica shampoo and conditioner which I have been using for over 10 years with no issues whatsoever. I still can return my Innersense products since I recently purchased them. God Bless you and your hair and health journey
Thank you so much for the blessings. I’m glad you were able to identify the issue and get your money back. I hope your hair journey goes well with your trusted products.
You’re so right! We are definitely doing too much to are hair, trying to many hair products and the stylist are just not seeing the damage or caring what’s going on. I am going back to use leave in conditioner, creams and oil!
Please go back to what works for you! You know your hair better than anyone else. You have more time with your hair and see how it performs with and without products. The key is learning your hair.
If you’re in the market for new products I would recommend Curlmix. I also like CurlSmith for my hair. Products are just dependent on your hair needs and what you’re looking to accomplish.
I am so sorry that happened to you. I have (SLE) Systemic Lupus and it's uninvited relatives. I have severe allergies year round. I do my best now my Allergist and Dermotologist test a lot before I use a lot of products by skin patch test. I get allergy shots 6 injections every 2 weeks. I use to get weekly. It's trial and error. They always tell me if between visits put products first on inside of wrist or neck wait to see if i react before purchasing. However i have had stylist use Shea Moisture,Eco Styler gel Dr. Miracles and i broke out horribly lost hair eyes swollen. I only go in for a haircut now. With my hair blown out. The curly cut doesn't work for me. I will only blow out my curls when i need a cut. I use a lot of fragrance free products no perfume do a twist out. I am in Fitness i wash my hair every 3 days. Sometimes i may stretch to 4 or 5. By then my scalp itch bad. So i definitely would recommend seeing these Dr. And getting a skin patch test. Wish you the best
Thank you so much! After that experience I tested everything on my inner forearm before adding to it my routine. I am more keen to my scalp when introducing new products. This whole experience has definitely made me become more cautious and wise.
My stylist has a suite so it’s one on one. When I see her it’s just us I hope your hair and scalp return to go good health and you find a comfortable stylist.
Thank you so much! I found two stylist actually but I’m currently going to Rachael Redd. My hair is on the mends and I’ll make sure to do a one year update in a few months.
Great video Tamz❤I’m here from AHG recent live, having recurring scalp issues and didn’t realize these can result from product allergies and sensitivity, of course dermatologists never mentioned this as I’ve seen at least 4 in the past 10 years. Hoping I can root out the unresolved cause of concern!
If it wasn’t for the initial breakout on my forehead I would have not known. Honestly if someone is experiencing scalp issues the dermatologist should have them bring in samples of every product they put on their scalp after ruling out medical issues.
I DONT LET NOBODY DO MY HAIR.. Ipray you learned from this.. Do ur own hair.. most stylist just want the dust don't really care but the clients... SMDH 😢
I had a lot to learn when I started due having locs for most of my life. I have learned a lot from this whole process and take many things into my own hands. I’m not to the point where I can do my own hair 💯% of the time but I steadily learning and growing. If you have any tips for cutting your own ends, I am more than open to learn. At this time I don’t trust myself with scissors.
Sorry that happened to you! The 4U By Tia was a 🙅🏽♀️🙅🏽♀️🙅🏽♀️ for me. Not sure if it’s the Hemi15 stuff in her products, but it had my scalp sooooo dry and itchy! Scratching my scalp sounded like sandpaper!! The shampoo, conditioner, leave in, gel…all of it! I took that stuff right on back to Walmart and got a refund.
I’ve never heard of that brand but I’ll pass. After sharing my story more people have come forward about their experience with the brand and for some hair loss as well. I’m glad you noticed the change in your hair and took it back.
@@msstacey777 oh yeah she did come out with a hair care line. There was nothing in me remotely interested in trying it for some reason. I would like to try taraji p henson line.
Thank you so much for watching and for your kind comment. I’m happy to say my hair is on the mends. It has grown back but I’m working on the density of the hair at this time in that spot.
They are trained a certain way., especially the young ones. I asked an older stylist what she thought and she recommended it. Things have been awesome every sense. My stylist still won’t use a leave in when I go see her. Since I am mostly there for the cut, I don’t really care though.
Just want to inform you that many products used in the US are forbidden in Europe because they are dangerous. Check the INCI list and more because they don't always write all informations. Check the contradictory articles with solid elements.
Thank you! I know there is something wrong with their products. Too many people are commenting about their own personal experience with the brand and hair loss.
@@SimplyTamz I would say that they are scientists or physicians, they are hairdressers. It isn’t within the scope of their expertise. You did all of the right things. Beauty products should care warnings about potential allergic reactions. Some products do, but they don’t mention the word “ allergy “ The disclaimer usually advises the user to do a patch test & wait 24 hours to see if you have some kind of untoward reaction. Congratulations to you for standing up for yourself!💜
Thank you for sharing this. I’m not a fan of Innersense or BCG. My shedding increased when using Innersense conditioner and I hated how stiff and dry I create hold left my hair. It seems to me that BCG’s priority is how the hair looks instead of the health of the hair. I recently went to a stylist that followed their methods and I hated how limp, dry, and stiff my hair was afterwards.
I agree with you about the appearance of healthy hair is promoted but actual healthy hair doesn’t seem to be a priority. I feel bad because the marketing for their methods really targets natural women who may inexperienced or recently gone natural. They won’t have a clue like myself that their hair is dry. Everyone hair should not look the same.
@@acol23 yesssss!!! I think I mentioned that in this video or my hair salon visit. It’s weird and I know it’s not right. If you check out my community post I just posted a picture with my actual curls coming back.
This is soo crazy bc I felt like I was having an allergic reaction to innersense. I contacted them and asked them about the lemon oil in their I create hold and asked could it be formulated without it and they said no. I have had an extensive allergy test and basically Im allergic to outside. All grasses and pollens. I dont agree with putting citrus oils in hair products or skin products period as they are a common irritant
I really think it’s a combination of things in their products that is giving everyone a hard time. I have read every comment under my video and there are some serious issues with the Innersense products.
So i wanted to mention that you might have a hemp allergy hemp also known as cannabis. Cannabis has terpenes-linalool, limonene and others but also citrus fruits contain terpenes and Innersense loves putting this in their products. The last ingredient on the i create volume is linalool. That i create hold stung my scalp. I used to use oyin honey hemp conditioner big no no and this was before i found out all of my allergies. The oyin had citrus and hemp in it so even though my hair wad moisturized my scalp was on fire. I contacted Innersense and asked could they formulate the gel without the citrus and they politely declined. Of course im stuck with a large $70 bottle. Now everything i buy i cross check with my allergy list. I have had a bad reaction to hair products with amla, there was a cold pressed castor oil highly rated on amazon that i had to wash out immediately. If you can get an allergy test. Like one person said even though its natural it may not be good fro your scalp
@@Bfoxy4life I saw you comment before maybe on their page someplace else. I remembered you asked if the product could be formulated without the citrus. I had no idea it had hemp in the product. I typically don’t buy (intentionally) any products with hemp since I’m military. Hemp products are banned for us. My next item on my checklist is an allergy test. I’ve gotten everything else done so far. When you went for the allergy test did you tell them to specifically test for those ingredients or is it automatically included?
I was sad to lose the comfort of having stable products. I dislike testing several products but I had no choice. I will say, I’ve learned a lot while trying to discover new products.
I emailed innersense and they recommended a skin test but that didn’t do anything. Still, I stopped using it. BUT I put a small amount on my gray hair because it holds better on that texture. That doesn’t burn because it isn’t all over my head. Just in the front.
So sorry you experienced this. I experienced something similar but due to Psoriasis. Losing hair is traumatic for a woman. I’m glad you are back on track and growing healthy hair. I think UFD and ICH may be causing me an itchy scalp. Time to make some changes.
Losing hair is definitely traumatic. I was ball of nerves if I thought someone could see the top of my head. Through this year I’ve been able to love myself and combat my insecurities. My hair is very resilient and forgiving. I think the UFD and ICH is a good combo for many. The comments on my video just proves not only was I not the ONLY one but many people are going through it with these products.
BGC didn’t have a partnership with Innersense when they started promoting those products. The partnership came later. It sucks about your hair loss. Hoping it grows back.
I'm starting to think some of these products for natural hair is purposely using harmful ingredients on Black hair care products. I'm starting to look at a lot of products with distrust.
After my personal experience, I look at every product with a side eye. I make sure to look at the back for the ingredients and search through hundred of reviews.
From the comments everyone has had a different experience. Although I have seen a trend of people who have had an allergic reaction to Innersense. It’s a try it at your own risk product and pay attention to your hair if you do use it.
@@MateoLeibowitz- this video a little older. After some time I have come to realize the ingredients itself and formulation may be the primary issues. I am still skeptical about the organic claim but that’s just my personal skepticism.

Ooh, Narada just said in his livestream the other day that innersense was creating issues for people. 👀
Indeed he was hinting that something was coming out. I had the pleasure of speaking with him about what happened.
seeing recent updates frpm people that are finally speaking out about innersense when it's all the curly salons use these day is SO vindicating!! i noticed recently my hair was falling out more whenever i used it but couldn't find anything for a while about that specific issue and thought i was going nuts

Thank you!
Great advice

Anyone could be allergic to "natural organic products". People are allergic to nuts, fish, etc and they are natural 🤦🏾♀️
Thank you for watching. I definitely learned a lot from this experience.

The innersense line could be organic/natural and still cause an allergic reaction. Hemlock grows out in nature but it's very toxic. I've been learning recently that a lot of products marketed toward natural hair are actually bad for hair. 🫢
I've found most gels in general to be very drying.
How long after using the products did you have the allergic reaction?
Ufd messed my scalp up too!
@@christy7516 Wow! Now I had heard a lot of people say, they had bad reactions to UFD.
@simplytamz The itching happened immediately. Same with my mom. I just didn’t realize what was happening until the itching was more intense.

Thank you so much Rosie. It’s been a journey but my hair keeps fighting back.
You are so welcome. So many companies also don't list all ingredients. I had a severe reaction to some of Aveda hair and skin products as well. The Allergy clinic reached out to them. They would not reveal all ingredients. So I made a decision to stop using the product line all together. So definitely test everything. Be well
I hope the FDA move quickly because soon companies won’t be able to hide the nasty ingredients they are putting in beauty and hair products.
I wonder if you were having an allergic reaction the whole time. I’m happy to hear your hair is on the mends.
I have a little update:
So I took pictures around the time that I was using the innersense conditioner I noticed some thin spots, being that I still had damaged hair follicles from getting relaxers as a kid I figured it was that.
This happens to my daughter when I use Innersense! The hair shedding is insane!
Ufd had no slip for me! It was so hard omg
Some natural/organic ingredients can cause skin reactions too.
For some reason I didn’t think it could happen but I have been proven wrong.
@@SimplyTamz I wrote a whole novel and it disappeared 😝
I said…..you are NOT ALONE! I’ve heard several say they are allergic to that brand as well as other botanical products.
My dermatologist actually told me it’s very common for people to be allergic to plant based products. So I’m not surprised.
Girl I swear I have learned so much since going natural this time around. It’s been wild! 🤯
@@shelly.v.247 I did not have all these issues when I had locs 😂🤣😂
@@SimplyTamz Oh yeah that because the ethos behind locs is to put nothing in your hair. Lol! Watch Yannie the Locologists. Growing up all the Rastafarians I knew never used any hair products. Just river water, sea water, rain water, some aloe vera plant, a little oil ( too much oil attracts lint) and they wet their locs every day and they kept their locs covered at all other times.
and listen to your scalp...Lol! When my scalp start acting up, I go straight in the shower with my scalp shampoo. Even just rinse with water works wonders. I live in a polluted urban cold Northern city....I need to move back to a tropical island. Lol! I'm designed for the African Savannah by a great river in the heat. I don't get enough sunlight living outside of the tropics and I don't get enough daily swimming in natural water. Lol! 😅 And I need to grow more vegetables in a garden. Look up Blue Zones where people live to 100. It's nowhere cold. I try to replicate with modern advancements. Lol! Leave in conditioner, swimming and sauna in the local pool and my daylight lamp and I grow plants on my window sill. But I need to go retire in the Caribbean or the Mediterranean. The sibling will go to Okinawa or So-Cal. They are all Blue zones too.
I’m so sorry this happened to you thank you so much for telling your story and I hope all the very products and health and wellness comes you way as that must have been a horrible time to go through. Don’t listen to anyone else who tries to gaslight or dismiss or discredit what you’re saying.
Thank you so much for the well wishes. My hair is currently on the mends.
@@SimplyTamzthank you for sharing. My head gets itchy with inner sense too. I didn't put 2 and 2 together
Thank you for sharing your experience. This is not ok! I am so sorry that you had to experience this. Sending you so much love ❤
Thank you so much!
Thanks for sharing your story! So sorry that this happened. Glad you took those actions, reported them and have found new products that work for you!
Thank you! It took me some time to tell my story but I’m so happy I did. So many people have been able to share their stories with the products and process.
@@SimplyTamz now I’m making sure to pay more attention to my hair!
Not sure if their products are formulated correctly given all of the essential oils they are using.
Thank you so much for your kind words and energy. It was a long journey but my hair is recovering. ❤️🩹
Thank you for sharing your experience. Sometimes everything isn’t meant for us. I hope you didn’t experience any hair thinning or loss.
I haven’t tried a lot of their products but I may pick some up once I run low on some of my other things.
@@quietstormaps I was looking to buy the I Create Hold from all the rave reviews, now i'm going to stay away it's not worth the risk
It’s probably better to say that you’re allergic to something in that product. Is your doctor a Dermatologist? You might want to find out what you’re allergic to because other products might have that same ingredients.
Yes, I mentioned my dermatologist within the video.
thank you for sharing. I no longer use Innersense products. I started using Adwoa and Miche products. I find those brands better addressed my specific hair needs.
Have you used the gel and curl cream from Adwoa?

It was the I Create Volume. In the video I have the product and the company response. Yes, I have been working with a dermatologist for almost a year now.
I’m a product junkie. I use Deva curl no poo,I like Influence hair products the Honey Almond line,Amika soul food hair mask, hydrorush mask and yes I use grease and oils.I like Donna’s recipe oil,Adwoa oil.
I definitely think there is a problem with allergies in general in the world at the moment. That' why some people don't have a problem with some products and others do.
Too much inorganic things being put in our food, water, and products.
Oh wow! I think it’s the brand as a whole. There are so many commented with the same reaction using several different products from the company.

Do you think it was both of the gels or just one? I’ve seen a few comments under my video for both gels causing an allergic reaction.
Camille Rose also make my skin and scalp itch real bad.
thank you. you confirmed an awful lot. im a women much older than you.
Thank you so much!
I used "I created hold" and it dried my hair out. I returned it right back to ulta. No ma'am.
My friend had the same experience. I’m so glad she didn’t buy it.
Yes. My hair looked dry and ashy. It’s not exactly formulated for type 4 hair.
Honestly, I only bought Innersence Once it was not bad but I realised that it was overrated. Its ok but nothing worthy of its notoriety :(
@@tmcurlydefinitely overrated
My hair is falling out in Clumps. I used some products for a year but when i added the hair bath, conditioner and hair memory...it went to shit!
I really think it’s a formulation issue.
I thank you so much for making this video. I’ve been eyeing their products but I’m gonna stick with my soultanicals
@@SimplyTamz this is a great piece of advice! Thank you so much‼️
I DONT LET NOBODY DO MY HAIR..
Her telling you not wash out something you were reacting to is crazy.
@@SimplyTamz 4U By Tia is Tia Mowrys hair care line (Sister Sister, the twins, Tia and Tamera) ☺️
@@msstacey777 oh yeah she did come out with a hair care line. There was nothing in me remotely interested in trying it for some reason. I would like to try taraji p henson line.
I no longer buy the full line of brands. I try one new item at a time so I know it's that one that caused a problem. Lol!
@@marleyhill34 that’s a very smart method to trying products.
Thank you for sharing Sis. So sorry this happened to you.
Thank you so much for watching and for your kind comment. I’m happy to say my hair is on the mends. It has grown back but I’m working on the density of the hair at this time in that spot.
Despite what my stylist recommended I use a leave in conditioner. Ultimate, we have to decide what’s best for our hair. I do love my curly cut though!
I honestly don’t know why stylist wouldn’t recommend leave in especially if someone is using gels and mousse.
They are trained a certain way., especially the young ones. I asked an older stylist what she thought and she recommended it. Things have been awesome every sense. My stylist still won’t use a leave in when I go see her. Since I am mostly there for the cut, I don’t really care though.
Thank you so much for sharing this!!! It was extremely informative
I’m so glad to hear that you were to get something from my video. ☺️
This product should be off the market I’ve heard others say they hair was affected also by using all this brand products.
I feel the exact same way. A RUclipsr just made a video about hair loss while using this brand smh
Organic products absolutely can cause allergic reactions, ask your dermatologist.
Oh I am definitely aware of that now.
Now that I think about it 🤔. I can understand why I was naive, but I’m confused as to why my previous curly specialist was so surprised. 🤦🏾♀️
Not scientists! I should proofread before posting.
@@lynnnelson9147 thank you!!! I’m really settled in on advocating for myself.
Yea, i contacted inner sense and they told me to see a doctor. This crap is too expensive for that! I'm ditching it.............
All they managed to do was give me a refund on recent products I purchased and a recommendation to go to a dermatologist. Ridiculous!!!
Girl!! It’s weird how no matter what the person’s hair type is they manage to make it look the same.
My scalp burned every time I used innersense so I had to stop using it, as much as I liked the look of it. Had to change products. Made me sad.
That’s how I feel about curlsmith my hair hated that but my hair love innersense. Not all the products though
I only use there masks and conditioner and shampoo I hated the other stuff it felt drying
@@SimplyTamz So glad you were able to push through it and your hair thriving.
I think I’m going to remove ICH and see if I can continue to use UFD.
@@naturalcurls4life576 UFD does promote using a leave in conditioner with their product now.
@@SimplyTamz So I’ve heard. Gotta find me a good leave in.
BGC didn’t have a partnership with Innersense when they started promoting those products. The partnership came later. It sucks about your hair loss. Hoping it grows back.
Thank you 😊… thanks for the information.
Also, they gave a list of products to choose from...
@@wellyouasked-ip3pt I tried some of the other products. But stylist at the time preferred Innersense.
I'm starting to think some of these products for natural hair is purposely using harmful ingredients on Black hair care products. I'm starting to look at a lot of products with distrust.
After my personal experience, I look at every product with a side eye. I make sure to look at the back for the ingredients and search through hundred of reviews.
Whew glad I saw this was going to buy today.
From the comments everyone has had a different experience. Although I have seen a trend of people who have had an allergic reaction to Innersense. It’s a try it at your own risk product and pay attention to your hair if you do use it.
I'm allergic to all kinds of things I wasn't allergic to as a child so yeah be very careful 🙏🏿
Innersence DOES use organic ingredients, and they give you their whole ingredient list. You can certainly be allergic to organic ingredients.
@@MateoLeibowitz- this video a little older. After some time I have come to realize the ingredients itself and formulation may be the primary issues. I am still skeptical about the organic claim but that’s just my personal skepticism.
