If you did not add DNS entry in \etc\hosts files, the backup flow would take either path ( https or vpn?) Why you would not add end to end encryption by commserv, instead of VPN tunnel?
What is throughput limitation over internet and vpn link? Is there any methodology to allow configure or link multiple private ip to Azure cloud. Where they will create or allow meda agent ips in firewall rules or dns entries to connect with azure
