Lets see how the Lucid Gravity will fare. Its such a large pack 134 Kwh means more weight. But it only gives 310 range not even 400!. They have the opportunity to design the SUV with efficiency.
Since all ev’s use very similar motors, electronics, etc the efficiency is highly based on weight, rolling resistance, friction coefficient etc. you’d only improve this rigs efficiency by looking at those things.
@@isserdigan2835 No, the Mach E is significantly more efficient. At 70mph, a California Route 1 gets about 3.7miles per kWh. That’s much better than the Rivian (about 70% better). The Rivian is amazingly efficient for what it is, but it’s still basically a big rectangle going down the road.

Decent review but relies too much on viewer to be familiar with the R1T (pickup). Mentioned on-road is a little stiff. Well, it uses air suspension which allows the driver to both manually adjust and automatically adjust based on drive mode. BTW, Travis, it's pronounced "Riv-ee-on." :-) Also, yes, the BP "over 120 kWh" ... but you're only missing 15 kWh as the mid-size battery pack which Rivian refers to the "large" bp, is 135 kWh ... the same that is currently offered with the R1T.

Never once did I hear anyone of them pronounce Rivian the way Travis did in this video. Clearly I'm not the only one who picked up on it if you read other comments here.
So size wise, it sounds close to a Tahoe or Expedition? If so, $90k isn't too far off from what the Tahoe and Expedition cost....but of course there are other factors.
This is the second “Car Journalist” to review the R1S and mispronounce Rivian. When influencers (IJustine) nail the details, I think some folks need to work on their craft.
Except for the Navigator and Expedition, Ford has it right, plenty of space, plenty of cupholders, and comfort, and with E85, $2.69 a gallon now in Boulder, Colorado. On the R1S wait list for 18 months currently.
I mean, if you want an EV with a usable 3rd row and reasonable cargo space behind the 3rd row, this is basically the one and only option you have. The Model X does not have a 3rd row usable by adults, and the Model Y 3rd row isn't even usable by children. A cat is about the largest animal that can fit. This one, the host only briefly alluded to the fact that the 2nd row can slide a bit to make room for the 3rd row occupants (he mentioned that the 2nd row was set for adults), but didn't actually demonstrate that. But whatever the case, that 3rd row can house adults with some amount of room, even if not in 1st class luxury... That is something that exactly zero other EVs on the market right now have. And for some people, that is a box they need ticked. I feel like in all the talk about efficiency and "ludicrous" performance, people have forgotten that car buying decisions are not 1-dimensional. People care about different things... and yeah, hitting some of those marks means there will never be a way for a Rivian R1S to be as efficient as a Tesla. So what? Some people need some things that Tesla does not offer at any price.
It's ludicrous to harp about efficiency of a truck vs. existing EV sedans and "SUVs" - it's a given that heavier vehicles are less efficient. It's a total "water is wet" point. You don't see any review of a TRX (which weighs almost as much as an R1T, btw) where they say "well the fuel economy doesn't really compare to a Honda Accord" because it's common sense. Ultimately it means the R1T (or any current or emerging Truck/SUV EV) will cost you more to operate wrt "fuel costs" just like any full size truck.
The point is with EV's the range and efficiency is important. The less energy you need. The more Environmentally friendly the car is. The less the car depends in fossil fueled energy.
What I am interested in to know battery life, based on miles not time, cost of battery, how many miles does it go on one charge is it truely 316 miles or less and how long does it take to charge in full. I'm perplexed at the complaint of audio via Bluetooth. Why tf would you want to plug in a cable? I'm also confused about complaining about 3rd row seat space. All 3rd rows are cramped, they're not made for adults. Who tf would take 6+ adults on a "long road trip"? And then there's the pronunciation. This guy is just a little odd.
Two comments, in addition to what several others have said. First, efficiency. As applied here, it is a very murky concept and therefore ends up as pejorative rather than descriptive. It is certainly not particularly illuminating. So the context is that it is kind of silly to compare a very off-road capable and very on-road capable pickup truck or a full-size, seven-passenger SUV to a four passenger econobox road-only car. Of course, the smaller much less capable vehicle will use less electricity per mile. This isn't news or insight. This is a statement of something less than helpful. Second, saying that the R1S is in a class by itself is unhelpful, dishonest, and disingenuous. Of course there are BEVs, PHEVs, and ICE vehicles that compete in the market category that the R1S occupies, but they are not discussed, and the R1S is not compared and contrasted to them to help people understand the class of vehicle in which the R1S competes and both it's merits and demerits in that class. Altogether, this review is not very helpful.
Stopped watching the video 23 seconds in because if this guy is too unprepared to know the name of the company, he’s probably too unprepared to tell me anything I don’t know. Internet comments are fun 😈
The entire tone of this video is weird - including the thumbnail. I think edmunds must have beef with the Rivian for some reason. Just based off the tone alone.
Appreciate your review! No Apple CarPlay or Android Auto with a $90,000 vehicle this day and age! That’s a major fallacy! With the cost of EVs and lack of fast charging, if your going to spend this kind of money, go with a Ford Expedition or Toyota Sequoia. The value proposition is far greater.
It's an interesting EV SUV, why because it's a usable 3-row EV SUV, yes, I know the Tesla Model X and Y offer 3-rows, but really they aren't for adults, more for kids, its specs are similar to the likes of a Mercedes GLS, BMW X7, Jeep Grand Cherokee L, Audi Q7, and other large midsize 3-row SUVs, one would say it going to cause problems for the upcoming Mercedes EQS SUV (forgot, it offers more storage/cargo than the competition, the front frunk and under floor space in the rear), I will say this Rivian (and Tesla) will eventually have to open up their infotainment system to run something other then it’s OS (just saying, the Chinese customer love to install what they want), ok, they have 3 models, when will they add a RS2 midsize 2-row version of the RS1 and a RS3 compact version or maybe a Maverick compact pickup RT3
It seems like a positive review, pronunciation aside, but the harshest semi-critique by this informed vehicle reviewer is the space for passengers in the last row. Would love to get some stats behind this statement: I would believe most people in the market for use of that third row either plan on having young people there (or work at a circus with short people ;). I would venture 75-85% are planning their kids or carpool kids into that space. I am a resy holder but need a review with actual kids in this SUV and in that last row. Let me know if that exists pls…
Don't care much about this review. What is he comparing the R1S to ? There is no other SUV electric. Getting into the third row seat in any SUV is not all that easy. R1S 121 inch wheelbase, Ford Explorer 119, Chevrolet Tahoe 121, Ford expedition 122.5, Ford Flex 118 etc. (Ford Mustang E doesn't have a third row.) The third row is convenient and not a Greyhound bus. Curb weight ? Very heavy, compared to what ? The F 150 Lightning comes in at 6,500 lbs. but that's a pick-up, the R1S 500 lbs. more. He 's not impressed with the towing capacity: R1S 7,700 lbs. Chevrolet Tahoe 8,200 lbs. Jeep Grand Cherokee 7,200, Dodge Durango 6,200 lbs. Ford Explorer 5,600 lbs. Ford Flex 4,500 lbs. This guy is obviously not a Rivian fan although he does admit it's in a class of it's own, for now. I agree the lack of knobs and car play or android auto is a disadvantage. The big guys are working overtime and when the time comes Ford, GM and (Stellantis) will make the Rivian price come down or they will dry up. The Ford F 150 Lightning's price will take the early electric pick-up market. That will hurt Rivian's R1T. But, the R1T seems to be in a different market somehow. As of today, Rivian has impressed big time.

I'm also confused about complaining about 3rd row seat space. All 3rd rows are cramped, they're not made for adults. Who tf would take 6+ adults on a "long road trip"?
And then there's the pronunciation. This guy is just a little odd.
Great review. Is it really pronounced "Rivi-AHN"? Everyone else says "Rivi-EN."
Tesla's line up looking ancient af these days.
Only thing looking up-to-date about the company is their CEO's side chicks popping out babies.
The phone connection thing is true for Teslas too. 😮
Fallacy - a mistaken belief, especially one based on unsound argument.
“Rivion”
Pronounce RiviAN correctly
Never heard it pronounced that way…
RiviOn, ViyA...if this guy cant even pronounce these words correctly, I dont know how much confidence we should have on his opinion of Tech
Glad they didn’t put a ton of buttons In there that you use one time and never touch again.
Why even make a dual motor version? Why buy a 7,000 pound vehicle with half the power? That's like people who buy V6 Mustangs. Makes no sense.
Can’t even connect your phone to the thing for anything except to charge? Nope, ain’t doing that. Moving on.
They are going to sell allot of those.
The new Hummer EV is the least efficient electric vehicle.
Regardless, they’re both heavy trucks and efficiency wasn’t the main goal.
RiviAHn? Bru. Did you talk to anyone from the company and register how they pronounced it?
If they only did a better job on the design. That front headlights 🥹 oh boy.
This is a bad-ass beast of an American SUV, so don’t pronounce the Rivian name like it is built in France.
- I will be placing my order soon for a Rivian R1S with sport 22” wheels! Now, which color?
You lost me with the pronunciation of Rivian
This dude is Edmund’s best reviewer on the channel. Chill.
You mean he's OdmONd's best reviewer. lol.
Where is the o Rivian? You keep pronouncing it strange.
ri vee on?
Can we see the Chevrolet trail boss go head to head with the Ford f150 tremor?
Say River. Say Indian. Say Riv. Say Ian. Lesson over. You’re welcome.
Rivi-On?
His pronunciation of Rivian was distracting. Like he's never heard anyone else say it. Bizarre. Maybe it was a ploy to increase the comment count, feeding the RUclips algorithm. Enjoyable video, regardless.
No Apple CarPlay is big turn off for me. I will take the delivery and then turn around sell it for a quick profit.
This SUV is going to suck going to a road trip. An SUV should have at least 400 mile range in order to be a viable road trip car.
Wait for the larger battery pack
Starting at $85,575 😓🫣😢
I like the Amazon cargo
RIVEYOORN haha this guy is off his tree
