Very clearly explained and presentation of tables really helpful. I have Preston Dura Slip in my top kits and as you say Hybrid elastic really powers up as it stretches.
Hi Paul, great video and well explained. Early days of summer commercial carp fishing for me was size 14 elastic, 14 line straight through to 14 hook. Nowadays for mixed commercial fishing I use the Map 12-14 red I think, (set slack )the price is good and there's enough for 2 tops.
Great vid again, very informative. Not tried the map elastic tempted to give it a try.I like the Preston 13 (white) summer or 11 (green) winter for general commercial carp .
A very good video Paul , well explained and the tables pretty much explains it all. I have recently been using the Nu Fish zip hybrids and quite like them . £4.99 for 3 metres. Didn’t realise the MAP version was for 6 metres. I’ll stick with the Nu Fish as like you say , you get used to the ratings on 1 brand . Generally a good explanation and I’m sure will be of great use to pole fishing learners as well as making a few more experienced anglers question themselves a little . Well done Dave
I wish clearly presented information like this was available when I started pole fishing. Having established a balance between elastic and hook length dia/hook what would be your advice on selecting a suitable main line diameter?
Good question, I meant to cover this in the video. Most of my rigs are made up on 0.16mm line and those designed for bigger carp (margins, short work, paste) are made up on 0.20mm. I use accupower for both. I’m happy using a 0.16mm hooklength to 0.16mm mainline if necessary (similar with 0.20mm) as if it breaks it will do so on the hooklength knots. Lighter mainlines aren’t always an advantage, the extra stiffness in the thicker lines can help control the rig.

Glad it was helpful.

Thanks, I think the 12-14 is the ultimate commercial summer elastic.
great video to refer to. perfect for pole newbies like me
Thanks, so pleased it’s a help.

The dura slip is very similar to the MAP and like you the 12-14 is standard for summer and 10-12 in cooler months.
Thx Paul 👍
Its a minefield comparing brands. Better to find one you like and stick to it 😉
Absolutely
Very informative video Paul. Reassuring for me. I hear that the MAP Hollow Elastic is very good too.
I’m glad you find it reassuring as that is reassuring to me! The MAP hybrid is the best I’ve used.

Many thanks for the good feedback. Balanced tackle is a phrase used regularly but few explain it in any depth.

A good video Paul a lot like the combinations I use except for the hooks I use SFL.B and GPM.B plus the same as u the XSH.B
The sfl is similar strength and weight to the Maggot Plus and the GPM very similar to the Carp pellet (I used to use them both).
Very good video. I will uae your tables to improve my set up and use it to try past3 fishong after your videos on it. Thiigh lines
Many thanks, good luck with the paste, it’s worth persevering with.
