This same notion goes for every noblewoman in every country before the modern times. Clothes before the modern times were beautiful and elegant, requiring multiple layers, and the appreciation for beauty isn't nearly as strong now which is a shame.

    • @TheJiamy

Bumble Grumble actually, there’s still an immense appreciation for beautiful clothing. What’s happened is that over the last century we’ve largely lost the crafting knowledge we had before, and the fabric we have is of a lower quality.
After women really entered the workforce in factories, their undergarments which were once practical were now a hazard. The structural garments like petticoats, bum rolls, corsets, etc, were lost as a concept. Even though skirts still exist today, even large and impressive skirts, few people still have petticoats or crinolines even if that’s the shape they want. Hell when I was a kid I straight up didn’t understand why skirts didn’t inherently look like they had petticoats under them because I had no knowledge of structural garments. The closest modern thing we have to these garments today are push-up bras and spanks.
With the advent of cheap fabric and fast fashion, there was less and less incentive to reuse and rework old clothing, because you could just make or buy a new wardrobe piece. With this we lost the creativity that needs to come
I got tired writing this anyway in short people like clothes but no one knows how to make them anymore

I really hope that more people can understand China's 5000 year cultural history. The charm of our culture has an impact not only on clothes, but also on architecture. For example, the Forbidden City and the summer palace in Beijing. Xi'an is a place that gathers the ancient capitals of the thirteen dynasties, including the forest of Steles and terracotta warriors, as well as the most popular Tang Dynasty.

Here is a list of Chinese dynasties before I recommend some dramas based on different dynasties: Xia, Shang (Oracle Bones Scripts), Zhou (Western and Eastern Zhou), Spring-Autumn Period (where the Hundred Schools of Thoughts appeared, and Confucius and Lao Tzu, who founded Confucianism and Daoism, lived), Warring State Period (where seven kingdoms Qi, Chu, Han, Yan, Zhao, Wei, Qin fought for supremacy after the collapse of Zhou Dynasty), Qin (reunification and building of the Great Wall), Han (first golden age where Han Chinese character Hanzi and Han Chinese, the largest ethnic group in the world, got their name; opening of the Silk Road), Three Kingdoms (Northern Wei, Western Shu, Eastern Wu), Tang (where Japanese sent the most envoys to copy the Tang culture wholesale; second golden age), Song, Yuan (Mongol-ruled), Ming (Korean culture based a lot on this dynasty), Qing (Manchu-ruled).
“Romance of the Three Kingdoms”, one of the four Chinese classics with the setting in the Three Kingdoms Period after Han Dynasty.
“Virtuous Queen of Han” on the life of Wei Zifu, the Queen consort of Han Wudi, or Martial Emperor of Han Dynasty who opened the Silk Road and traded with the Roman Empire.
“Legend of Chinese Empress” on the life of the only empress of China, Wu Zetian, in the Tang Dynasty.
“Judge of Song Dynasty” on the life and work of Song Ci 宋慈, who wrote the world’s first forensic science book called Washing Away of Wrongs 洗冤录。
Also check out a documentary called “Daming Palace and Tang Dynasty”. They briefly mentioned about the Japanese envoys kentoushi 遣唐使。
History Channel did a series called Ancient Discoveries. Six episodes were devoted exclusively to Chinese inventions, which make up a long list.
CCTV-6 China movie channel features a lot of Chinese historical dramas and documentaries.
All of them on RUclips. Enjoy. ❤

Enjoy. ❤

Koreans are mainly influenced by the Ming Dynasty in China, so you will feel that the clothes are different. Before the Koreans said that the Hanfu of the Ming Dynasty in China copied them, the Koreans did not want to admit that they were the history of the dependent countries, and the culture was not created by themselves, but created by China. They felt inferior. This kind of thing can be understood. But it is worth being cast aside. Wang of South Korea also wrote to the Chinese emperor that he is a good son and Japan is a bad son... South Korea is too poor in history, so the current Koreans will not know the true look of their history, and their education has led to the present. Like this.

When I look at Egyptian hieroglyphs, and every body is drawn in the exact same way in all tombs and murals for *centuries* , it makes me think that art was not an open thing and that all those painters were taught to represent all human and godly figures that exact way as a rule to keep all things uniform though the kingdom. Because I can't believe that in centuries not a single person came up with a different style of drawing to represent a human. Everything so sketchy and straight-lined, always in the same posture.

There were important magical/religious reasons for that.

I took an art history class a few semesters ago that included this topic, and you'd be surprised by how detail oriented each angle, shape, pose is. Ancient Egyptian art often depicted your status socially, more like a "hey this dude achieved this so put x animal in x style on his tomb", rather than it being just for the sake of aesthetic. Like you guess, very by the book. Aesthetic, experimentation, and art for the sake of art was more the ancient Greeks thing from what I recall.

    記得之前讀時裝時就閱讀了很多唐代的衣物妝容和它的發展,一直都想像在真人中呈現會是怎樣,謝謝你們把它從古書中呈現出來

Just beautiful. I'm curious what they used for their face make-up? How did they make rouge and eye pencils, etc? Or was it literally face "paint"? If you ever add English subtitles, I'll be so happy!
