Always comfortable to watch someone blind starting in Icarus. ;) Smashed that like button! "Why would i need a firewhacker?" made my day. Looking forward for your next playthroughs.
I have put hundreds of hours into this game. It is really good. The first thing you do when you start is get a weapon. Spear is good, but Bow is better. Always stealth shoot at the head if you can. That will often take an enemy out in one shot. The other recommendation I would make would have been to look at the entire tier 1 tech tree before spending any points. Also, you need a knife to skin the animals you kill. You can also repair items that you craft in your inventory also in your inventory. I say that because stone knives wear down very quickly. Don't use the knife to get the bones, use your pick instead. Hope those beginning tips help.
You are welcome, Ryan. I picked this game up a year or 2 ago because it is from the same studio as Stationeers. They have kept up a cadence of weekly updates in game stability and expansion. It is a survival game that motivates you to expand your capabilities. Hope you like it and have fun. All of the animals are a source of resources. Some are benign, some aren't and some can be used as pack animals.
Oxide rocks go in the Oxide slot until you reach high enough levels to build an oxide converter and a breathing bag/ or get ya a bottle for breathing and canteen/waterskin for water storage, and build a shelter fast and a sleeping mat so you can sleep through the night, you'll also need a fire pit to sleep by, and cook your meat you hunt. Those are the basics, go to it.
Hey Rob, Thanks for the comment. I played for about 7 hours straight so some of the next episodes are already recorded. I can say I figured some of the basics in the next episode. I should have started with missions but figured I'd jump in the deep end first which as you can see, was a massive mistake :D
@@PanicAndDieGaming it's ok, nobody likes being told how to do things, so I figured the basics should suffice. Do note, everything is out to kill you, even the piranha type fish in the rivers, the faster you build your shelter and a respawn bedroll, the better off you'll be. Honestly, many gamers start Icarus like you did, some even husband and wife teams. I think your wife may even enjoy this game. Just be sure to warn her everything is trying to kill you, and you'll be fine. Bees can be attacked with a torch!
@@Rob_Moilanen Happy to be told what to do :D I felt like even the trees were out to get me lol. Yep, my wife has had a play during the free weekend and she seems to enjoy the game. The problem is that her laptop is a little dated (My old one) and it's not running great. We have a plan to buy her a new one and once she has that, we probably will play together. That's good news about the Bees. I'll be ready next time!
@PanicAndDieGaming that's because you are on equal footing at the beginning, you have you're skill tree and she has her own skill tree, and other than the basic skills we all need in Tier 1, knife, bow, an axe, a pickaxe, a torch, a stabber stick, a shovel, you can specialize to your hearts content after that. But just remember that you can level up by doing basic tasks, chopping wood, busting rocks/mining, etc. There are caves with ore rocks inside them, but first you gotta find the cave, bust into it with your pickaxe, kill the cave worms before they spit venom at you, and goto town on the the ore rocks. Oh and find you a big rock you can hollow out, if you get caught out in a storm. You just need a quick safe place to keep you dry until the storm lifts. Your hud is your friend, the top is a locating compass. The hud will also tell you if you are exposed or not, if you got "cavelung" or "poisoning" from the fish or caveworms or even from bees. The shovel is a relatively new feature, it can dig dirt to form dirt foundational items, though I'm not sure yet how far you can dig, but it'll help when digging a foundation or shelter under a big rock. Don't worry "flooding" is not a thing, yet, but if the devs can make the terrain deformity from rainning or extreme stream errosion, you'll have the necessary tool to help with that. Oh, Icarus can be pretty taxing on a PC, you'll probably have to tune your wifes laptop, just to be able to run it. I'd highly recommend she get a PC, so her gaming experiences are similar to yours. You can loose yourselves for hours in this game, check out Flipsie channel on RUclips, featuring Splitsie Icarus feed, start at the beginning and watch the shenanigans that he and Capac ( and friends) have gotten into. That could be you and your wife someday.
This game is kicking your ass haha. The game reminds me of Ark but with more of a focus on survival with slight similarities to stationeers with regards to oxygen, although I haven't watched much stationeers so I wouldn't know, Or much space survival in general so it's probably universal. Games also in it's early stages so who knows.
