My father had one - the watch stopped at the moment of his death on his wrist. A few years ago, I started my watch story with an Orient watch. Last month, I bought one for my daughter - the story goes on.
I work in the funeral business and you would be surprised at how many windup watches and grandfather clocks etc STOP at the moment of a loved one's death. Heard this at least 50 times (out of more than 3k funerals).
Retired watchmaker here: The older Orient movements are derived from Seikos, with limited interchangeability of parts. Although based on Seiko, they are, IMO, not quite as robust but nevertheless good quality. Every one that ever crossed my bench was shock-resistant - there's no such thing as shock Proof - I've even repaired Rolex and Piaget with broken balance staffs! Someone asked about Doxa. All of those that I repaired were top-quality Swiss but very few, if any, were shock resistant.
I've had an Orient Kamasu for about 5 years. It's a robust watch with all the features needed in a diver/sports watch. It's a member of the Seiko family, and for the price, it's a fine watch if you are getting into Automatic watches.✌🏾
I own a 38mm Bambino! It is my first mechanical watch. The quality, robustness, and finishing rivals Seiko’s and some Swiss offerings at about half the price!
Orient has been huge in South American markets for decades now, and many watches from 70s and 80s can still be found in all conditions, all working and usually very inexpensive to buy and maintain. I myself have two vintages older than me (one resembles that on the video, but mine's on leather) and a modern Kamasu II diver, all three flawless. My late maternal grandfather was a master of many trades in a small fishing village in Brazil and he always worn Orients too due to their epic reliability. I often see older relations from his time still wearing "Tristars". Keeping on the channel's theme, i highly suggest looking into the dress models collectively know as Bambinos.
I own 3 Orient watches. My beloved cream faced Bambino that I wore to my daughter’s wedding, a red dial Sport, and a White dial Mako. Very nice review and yes they are worth it. I rotate wearing them with the rest of my collection.
Nice! I have an Orient -- I find it a bit chunky and the leather band it came with is extremely stiff, but it's solid quality and visually very distinctive. I'm a fan!
If you are on a budget for an automatic watch, a Seiko 5 with a white or silver dial is the most versatile watch to buy. A Seiko 5 will go with everything and was actually in the old days, when most people owned only one watch, the choice of many. Orient is a great 2nd watch to move on from there however. They have their basics, some being a lot what the Seiko 5 is, but Orient is the brand you choose for their more funky releases. The Orient Neo classic SK with either the gold, the blue or especially the purple dial would be my pick. Many of the mainstream watch reviewers have a strong dislike for that funky Orient but if you want something affordable, very special that will stand out at an event, just a great watch to have!
I am suprised and happy to see a video on this channel that is about watches. Indeed I own two dresswatches. One is the Orient Bambino Automatic RA-AP0003S10B. I love that timepiece. Reliabel, clean design and with the small second indicator a little more old fashion. It was and after years of wearing still is worth every Euro I spend for it. When I want a classic look and dont want to wear a pocket watch this is the one.
Fantastic value for Orient. Highly recommend for the budget shopper. My Bambino is elegant and dressy. My Mako II is a great every day diver. The bracelet broke on the Mako after about a year but it looks great on a NATO strap now anyway.
I own an Orient Neptune, an ISO certified 200M diver; blue faced, on a bracelet. This is a dress watch for me. It looks terrific under the cuff of the blue shirts I wear with suits. An excellent and affordable watch.
I have several pieces from ORIENT (Worldtime Executive GMT, Monarch, Kamazu, Dignitary, 70's Hi-Ace). Their quality, fit/finish and performance are outstanding for the price. They have a distinct touch of class which I really appreciate. - Great video Sr. Martinez.
I have a very fine Orient Star watch that look as elegant as many high end watches. It keeps good time. I wear it out for a night on the town, and for church, too.
I have an orient ray 2 (on fkm rubber) on my wirst as I type this. Forget the price, you just cannot fault it. It does everything well. I wear it on many straps and its equally at home in jeans and a tshirt or in a suit. The lume is incredible, I've had it in a ton of water. Not to mention, what a cool history!
After a few Casios which I love, my first nice watch was a bambino with rose gold metal and a chocolate dial. The dial and red brown strap match with my girlfriend’s birthstone. I got the watch as my half of a couples accessory. I have my watch to match her and she has a necklace with our birthstones.
The orient Tristar isn’t a dress watch so you don’t need to wear it as dress casual only. You can rock it with a suit and a tracksuit and it wouldn’t look out of place.
Orient is a fantastic watch choice for beginners or anyone who just wants to try something new. I love mine and get questions on it regularly from watch guys.
As someone in Japan, I got my two Orient open heart watches for about 30% cheaper than they're sold in the U.S. They are well worth it. I'm fairly picky and the next better (more expensive watch) that I would go for is at least 3 times more expensive.
As an avid watch collector - I agree with most of this content. I have nothing but love for Orient Watches. However there are a LOT of other GREAT alternatives that are JUST as good if not better for the money. First is Casio. Only possible downside it that all Casio watches are quartz, however they are GREAT watches. Second Timex. Again so many great watches, and I absolutely love the rerelease of Q line as well as the Marlins. Citizen. Those ecodrive quartz are solar powered and will probably last longer than you will. Seiko Presage. Again GREAT watches. From China - San Martin from Aliexpress. Those are probably the BEST higher end watches automatics I have seen for a long time.
I have Seiko's, Timex, Lorus and Orient in my 80+ watch collection (also includes some higher end pieces). For value for what you get (especially with Seiko price bumps) I'd say Orient is better. That said Presage is awesome and the SUP880 solar Tank I have from Seiko is also lovely - Cartier and Jaeger LeCoultre vibes.
Is there anyone at GG who carries a firearm? I’m looking to get a concealed weapons permit soon and I’m not yet sure on how it will affect wearing suits. I’m sure there are others who go through life armed and could use some advice
I think the watch to get it's a Tissot, part of the swatch group with amazing eta movements and even chronometer certified for very low price. Nobody can beat an ETA except perhaps Rolex and for the price it's a no brainer.
Hey. Appreciate your work! I wonder where can I ask question about style. So far I haven't found any special form, so I ask here. A few days before I was at a job interview with the head of department I might work under. And he pulled off nice look with casual trousers with no stripes. It seemed they had been meant to be worn as dress trousers and they were also a bit on a shorter end of the scale - just covering his ankles while standing, no further, but he still looked nice. He also had casual sneakers and a sweater. I really liked it. So the question is: is it appropriate to wear casual sneakers, "dressed down" trousers and a sweater/shirt/T-shirt/polo? Although I'd like to hear from the team, any piece of advice is appreciated. Maybe also recommend me how to contact the team
Value for money. Orient offers: amazing Heritage, in house movements, beautiful dials and good quality watches for the affordable price. No watch enthusiast would ever say that these watches are worthless. Everyone that knows about watches knows that Orient is Quality and class.
Orient makes great watches. Sizing of their dress watches is an issue though. I'm not into 42mm dress watches. Sporty watches fine. Not for dress. I also like baume mercier for dress although they're a bit big sized too. I also have tag, oris, omega, and tudor.
odd to see Orient featured here. They were my gateway into horology - They are fine for what they are, but I soon moved on onto pieces that have more quality and refinement (which seems to be the point of the GG - quality and refinement).
I have a little bit from everything , mostly Swiss and Japanese watches , Longines , Rado , Mido , Claude Bernard , Oris and Zenith but i mostly wear my Seiko's, Orient's and Citizen's . If you have a smaller budget you can't go wrong with orient , still neither of them is my Favorite watch , which is the Zeppelin Hindenburg lz129 from German Watch maker company Pointtec , a very basic miyota movement , quality of materials and finishing is just ok , the leather strap looks and sounds cheap kinda like plastic , but the Bauhaus Minimalistic design , arabic Numerals and the wonderful and funny looking hands combined with a good memory i have with this watch , makes it my favorite , interestingly it's my second cheapest purchase ever , i paid less than 200 dollars .
I would buy the orient bambino small seconds if the watch was smaller. Regardless, I love the simple, clean, and elegant style on a lot of their watches.
Orient is hard to beat in their price range ever since Seiko started pushing upmarket. One of my earliest mechanical watches was an Orient Kamasu and I'd easily recommend it or other Orient watches for someone who wants to explore this space
@@DBR6464 so the tristar in this video is an Orient watch. May be discontinued now. However, Orient Star in entire upscale brand, related to Orient. They are still making watches, very nice ones...

Which one for your daughter? Orient’s line for ladies is unfortunately limited
@@m.s.biteth1164 I mean... it sounds very logical, doesn't it?
@@976HIKE We went for RA-NR2010P10B - she likes the pink dial and I need to admit that it looks better than on the photos.
Sorry but they have reserved power, if its automatic. Watch probably died a few hours after his death

Bought an Orient Mako III in the sapphire blue colour a few weeks ago and am very much enjoying it.
gentleman’s gazette is one of my favorite RUclips channels it so well thought out and put into digestible videos that are very informative.
Great selection,good-looking with simplicity

Those 1950's Orients were great looking watches. I just bought a Bambino version 7 becausevof that vintage aesthetic.
