  • Finally got a chance to throw my leg over a Yamaha R7. Also let the owner ride a 600 for the first time. Watch until the end if your on the verge of getting anr7 and feel it may be too slow.
    If you live in NE Florida and want to test out a few these bikes check out. Twistedroad.com and Riders-share.com to schedule a ride.

    I love my r7. I love low end torque and power due to city riding, and I think it’s the sexiest bike on the market with the intensity white color. The 600 class makes me wanna push them to their limits too much due to the high end power, and it will get me killed lol

    Have owned multiple bikes. From an R1, R6, Honda CBR1000RR, Honda CBR600RR and Suzuki GSXR600 and the R7 is my favorite bike. The usable power, key word, USABLE, is quite amazing for daily riding and having fun. There's no need to own a liter bike on the street unless you want to go fast in a straight line.

      I agree. I prefer a slight excess of speed personally but I hoon and know it’s not required. Unlike most people that feel like I do I can enjoy a pleasure ride rowing through the gears and enjoy the nuance as well. This bike offers that. Your able to work the throttle and the bike feels difference based on those inputs.

    This was an awesome video! Perfect way of explaining the difference between the two, and how to be thinking when you’re considering getting either. The R7 has a lot to offer that gets you set up for a 600 anyway; so it’s a good beginner sport bike for sport bike riders. The super upright sport bikes like the ninja 650 give a false sense of sport bike riding if you know what I mean. It’s a great bike but can definitely mislead some people I feel. The R7s position definitely gets your body ready for 600s or 1000s if you’re riding with proper posture. People hate on the R7 too much, but it’s a super fun bike that’s easy to control. That grom comparison you made was a good point to make with people who only ride 1000s or 600s. Well done with this video, I loved it!

I really appreciate the feedback and am very glad to hear it comes across as I intended.

    I’m of the opinion that if you’re coming over from dirt bikes, and have start/stop/shifting and throttle control under stress down to second nature. You can 100% start on a 600 super sport. And if you’re all those things while *also* being responsible and humble, you could probably even jump straight to a 1000.
    But if you just recently learned everything at the MSF course and are shopping for your first bike? Hell no. Definitely get a starter bike and get to that level first.
    I’m sad the industry is moving over to these mid power twins and 4 cylinders tuned for low power to pass emissions. Super sports are so incredibly fun. Hands down my favorite feeling, performing, handling, and coolest looking motorcycles ever made.

    id say its a good beginner bike because it lets you get used to the wheight of a 600 without the speed of a 600, for someone who has experience id say it has no reason to exist, the 600 is simply better in every way

    • @NostalgicMotorcycles
      @NostalgicMotorcycles  6 месяцев назад +1

      Matter of opinion. A 600 is not lighter and does not handle as easy. A 600 is not as comfortable to ride. A 600 is more demanding on the body for longer rides. I prefer a 600 personally I love the power and that’s enough for me to pick it as my bike but there are people out there who don’t just care about the top end those other things matter as well. Yes it’s slower but it is more comfortable so for those commuters that want a sporty bike. Even if it’s slower it’s better (at that)

    R7 is a very slim machine. The consensus I have seen from a buddy in my group who rides with 600s and a couple of us on 1ks are, he feels fast enough to keep up but he doesn't feel faster than anyone. I think the bike needs gearing, full bolt ons and dyno tune and it will be respected.

    • @NostalgicMotorcycles
      @NostalgicMotorcycles  6 месяцев назад +1

      I rode a fully stock bike and felt the same way. I let this guy ride my 600 and we rode for about 40 minutes after making the video for highway more off camera riding. And I didn’t get left behind in the r7. it went up to 13-14/10 on a speed scale a lot easier than I thought. The bike tops out in 6th so I don’t think gearing will help as it will reduce top speed but Intake exhaust and tune will change it a lot. It won’t be 600 fast no matter what. I will say a good rider on a tuned r7 Can do some track damage to a 600 rider with less experience. It’s close enough that in a track setting skill will outshine power for sure.

      It’s not a 4 cylinder. A 2 cylinder 700 will make less power and make it differently than a 4 cylinder of equal displacement. But it has its appeal. It may be slower but the torque gives it a low speed feel fast that faster 4 cylinders just can’t. They will feel more sluggish at the bottom and make it more difficult at certain things. Pick your poison that’s different for everyone. But I was surprised man. After this video I rode it for another 45 min on the highway and it pulls way more than expected from 110-140 it’s actually solid. Not 600 solid but more than I thought for sure !

      I have no idea as that varies greatly city to city, rider to rider, and state to state. A 25 year old licensed rider will pay very differently in Florida(where I am) compared to Texas(has age/experience based insurance if I remember correct)

      In UK the difference is between being able to get a quote or not being able to get a quote from any insurer. Have full license over a year, but no garage. R6 is a much higher category than an R7, it's a more powerful bike so the risk of a thief crashing and racking up damages is considered higher as well.

      1000s have power modes for a reason, they're much better bikes overall even as seating position goes, torque from down low, you can cruise way better on them, if you can handle a 600 you can handle a 1000. I started on a gen 3 hayabusa and I don't regret a single second. Flawless experience instead of a tiny bike that makes me feel unsafe on the highway. To each their own, if you're confident and talented enough you can ride anything, you can unalive yourself on a 400cc just as easy. Self control is what dictates the outcome nowadays. And I'll never consider any bike better than the 1000s and over that. The 6 axis IMU is a life saver and lower tier bikes don't have them, only really expensive new 600s@@NostalgicMotorcycles

    • @NostalgicMotorcycles

      I don’t disagree at all. I think exactly as you do. The fact doesn’t change that a 1000 in rain/slow what ever mode is still faster than a 600 everywhere. A 6 axis imu can not save you from giving a bike too much throttle while leaned over. And someone who isn’t 100% confident will make those mistakes may it because of their confidence and they don’t realize it but some people can’t handle themselves that way and expecting every person to think and feel as we do is un rational. As there are people that are new and timid. If your new and confident yeet yourself into oblivion be my guest. You’re not everyone and the people that are don’t need to be told to start on a small bike they won’t do it. The people that are on the edge and doubting it should not jump on a 1000 the lack of confidence could end up worse. Some people need baby steps bro.

      Cool yes. Faster than stock yes. Great midrange yes. But the only real reason to have a turbo r7 is to say you have a turbo r7. There are faster turbo bikes if going fast is the point. Adding a turbo makes it not trackable around turns (which defeats the purpose of the bike). I’m not a cool factor type of rider so it doesn’t appeal to me personally. @@NostalgicMotorcycles fair enough I suppose. I’m not really up to snuff on how engines work. My tiny brain is just like “7 is a bigger number than 6 so that means it should be better” 😂😂

      They pitch it as an R which I get. Fun timing we don’t have an r6 but here is an r7. So I fully understand. My thought was the same until I realized what the engine was. But I know you understand the concept. Most Harley’s are much larger and much slower. Same case here.

      Only with a factory exhaust !! With an aftermarket it actually sounds nice. Its a deep sound similar to muscle cars

    Whole lotta nothing for 700 ccs you know?

    • @NostalgicMotorcycles
      @NostalgicMotorcycles  6 месяцев назад

      Not exactly. Engine size and speed are not as correlated as you might think. So if your expecting more power than 600 because its a 700 than yes. But if you just look at the bike as a 700cc twin and forget wanting a 700 to be faster because bigger number it has a lot to offer to riders before a full SuperSport.

      @@NostalgicMotorcycles that’s fine thinking but Yamaha advertises it as a supersport. I think the 4 cylinder cb/cbr650 has a lot more to offer for being a midsized bike.

      I still believe even though it has been 10 years now that Yamaha and Suzuki will release their parallel twins with superchargers on them like Suzuki had in their patent for the 800. If they do I’ll be at the dealer.

      I owned the cb650f 2nd gen (the one just before it went all neo-retro and "r"). While it was a great bike in many ways, the lack of mid range was annoying on the mountain roads here in Scotland. Having to go into a turn with 8k rpm, just to get some pull out the other side, gets old quick on the road. By the end of my ownership I wished I got the mt07 instead for that reason, even though, by all accounts, the suspension on the Mt was garbage compared to the CB.

    • @NostalgicMotorcycles

      I can see that. It would a 600 powerband with less overall power will make the bottom end miserable. R7 power was for sure easy and effortless. In any gear really
