Zac Efron not getting a nomination was blasphemous! One of the best movies of last year. Got his Kevin poster with the zine from my aaa24 subscription!
Same he should of get a nomination
Me too!! I was rooting for him :( he won in my personal monika awards
Zac definitely deserved a nomination for The Iron Claw, it was so good. I can't believe that they had to leave out elements of the Von Erich family story because it's even more tragic in real life than it is in the movie. Zac really can do it all, he's incredible in dramas, comedies and musicals and doesn't get anywhere near as much recognition as he should (although at least he's got a star on the walk of fame now!). Looking forward to watching Ricky Stanicky.
I didn't watch many narrative movies other than The Iron Claw in January but I did watch a bunch of documentaries at at documentary film festival that takes place in my area. The highlights for me were definitely Orlando: My Political Biography, Smoke Sauna Sisterhood and Mr. Dressup: The Magic of Make Believe.
Because you asked: at the very end of the month, circumstances finally allowed me to see "Poor Things" and "The Holdovers". Both were incredibly worthwhile. There was an audio glitch in the theater where "Poor Things" was being shown but it actually added to the experience, because the clear intention of Yorgos Lanthimos was to throw you for a loop and make you see things from inside a very different mind as it develops. The ending of the film is some of the craziest, funniest shit I've seen in years. "The Holdovers" went down a very somber and dark path but juggled it with yuletide atmosphere, and the story engaged me so much that it wasn't until after leaving the theater where I started to contemplate the pure confidence Alexander Payne has at this point in his career.
I watched 10 movies in January:
I rewatched Saltburn and I already liked it but now I actually got a little obsessed with it.. My favorite character was Farleigh and I loved Archie Madekwe's performance and so I then watched Gran Turismo, in which he plays the lead actor. Surprisingly really enjoyed this! Would watch again. Didn’t expect to love a movie about racing cars.
Then I watched Joy Ride, which was a fun comedy but also unexpectedly sad at points.
I also watched Foe and was a little disappointed, but I still enjoyed it. Maybe I just really love sci-fi…
Next I really liked Quiz Lady! Another comedy. And I also saw No Hard Feelings for the first time. I have seen so many dark movies these past few months and I really appreciated those easy fun ones!
I was a little disappointed when I watched Eileen, but now thinking about it again I still liked it in its way. Good performances.
The Boy and the Heron was great!
Also saw May, December and was disturbed by the story but still liked it, I suppose.
Lastly, I watched Dream Scenario, which I was looking forward to but I hated it! The plot was weird, I really didn’t like it, which is a shame because I thought the premise sounded so good, so promising.
And I would love it if you included books! I love reading and hearing other people’s thoughts on books. So I’d say go for it!
:)
I highly recommend Monster by Koreeda. Definitely one of my favorites of last year.
The Iron Claw, Society of The Snow, The Talented Mr Ripley, Fallen Leaves, and May December all solid movies.
Haven't seen the short Nimic, but I did just watch The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar. Wes Anderson, so a yes.
All of Us Strangers, for me, was very good. Watched it recently. If you haven't Monika, it's good.
Going to see Poor Things today.
Have a great weekend.
Omg yes, all of us strangers destroyed me 😭
@@cinemoni I bleched during Poor Things when Willem Defoe was blowing a bubble burb.
I was drinking Canada Dry.
So fun to hear you watched The Nice Guys!
Even tho you did not love it as much as I do 😅
It is one of my favourite movies
Hilarious, interesting plot, very cool music and a cool style in general
& exeptional performances and chemistry between Ryan Gosling and Russel Crowe
Angourie Rice is also great in this movie
Yeah a cool style for sure and i liked the performances!! The humor was just not as funny to me but i think it was a good movie
I actually watched 70 movies in January so, choosing which one I preferred is kinda difficult but I think that my favourites 1st watch are: Poor Things, The Green Knight, The Decoy Bride (a rom-com with David Tennant, very cliché but I love that), Fallen Leaves and Sometimes I Think About Dying with Daisy Ridley, I absolutely loved it, and totally recommend it if you like the kind of films that are a bit slow (not in a bad way), nostalgic, where there's not much happening and that have a great cinematography
You watched 70 movies???! Omg what’s your letterboxd? And i love the green knight, so underrated!
Can I get ur letterboxd please? Also 70 films is crazy I wish I could do it.
@@knxa Tbh, I don't watch 70 movies every month, I just had a 2 week holiday at the begining of January that I spent watching movies (my Letterboxd is V_teran)
@@cinemoni Yeah, I watched it by chance and totally loved it, I think that it's both poetic and visually beautiful (and my letterboxd is Vlociraptor with an underscore between the V and the l)
@@knxa Tbh, I could only watch this many films because I had a 2 week holiday, it's not always like that, and my letterboxd is Vlociraptor with an underscore between the V and the l
On your recommendation saw traingle of Sadnes and absolutely loved it. I think you are my RUclips creator now.
You should do more "A day in the life of a cinephile" vlog videos ! That would be awesome ! 😄
Please watch Muriel's Wedding, it's a true Australian classic starring toni collete in one of her earliest roles, it's a really sweet and funny coming of age story that's also quite sad sometimes. I love it and hope you do to if you see it :)
I agree with the review of Mean Girls and No Hard Feelings lol ...also dig The Holiday
Oh my gosh I've never seen anyone talk about the scent of green papaya! The only reason I know about this film is bc my dad saw it when it first released so thank you for talking about a Vietnamese film :)
Hey Mon! Hope you’re doing good!
I loved the video! ♡♡♡ About the film The Talented Mr.Ripley, I watched this film a few days ago with my parents, and we were very interested in the story. When the film ended, my parents were joking and saying to be careful with Tom.😂 It was a very strange film but I liked it! 🙂
Loved society of the snow bit slow paced for me but it was so good .
Imma have to check out: the talented mr ripley, the green scent of papaya, fallen leaves, rewatch the holiday and may December.
I saw Godzilla Minus One last weekend in theatres and it was so good. It was probably my favorite movie to come out last year.
It's incredible. Definitely one of the best Godzilla movies ever made.
I loooved mean girls! I thought it was so much fun. I didn’t quite get how people hated it so much… I feel like the creators did a great job of adapting the musical into a film while also modernising it a little. The worst part about the movie was the horrible marketing
As a cinephile, I really enjoy watching your videos ! Thank you so much for sharing ! 😊😊
Si aún no has visto Poor Things, te la super recomiendo. Me dejó loquisimo, la ví esta semana y no he parado de pensar en ella.
I would recommend you to watch heels, it's an underrated show about wrestling and I think you will really like this show
100% agree with the mean girls take. charles melton and zac efron were absolutely snubbed. Ryan Gosling shouldn't be up there :/
I love School of Rock! It is so funny and Jack Black gives an awesome character.
i watched 67 films in jan so it's hard to narrow down my faves, but some that stood out to me were: frida, in the mood for love, cinema paradiso, the holdovers, rye lane, la chinoise, hiroshima mon amour, wonka, poor things, donkey skin and cathy come home. :)
How do u watch 64 films In one month and not forget half of them ?
I loved Cinema Paradiso! It's so good.
@@odd__piko6246 well i am a film student so my life kinda revolves around them at the moment 😅 plus, some of them were short films and documentaries so i wouldn’t say it’s too much to take in.
@@maddieroxx4eva such a precious film with outstanding performances! :)
@@usingy0u im a film student as well but still can’t watch that many in a month haha x)
Not really been felling myself so not seen as much as I would of liked but this is what I watched In January 2024
1.Hairspray (1988)
2.Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (2023)
3.Platoon (1986)
4.X (2022)
5.Pearl (2022)
6.Lean on Pete (2017)
7.Mischief Night (2006)
8.Miami Vice (2006)
Society of the Snow was such a phenomenal film.
If you haven't already check out "The Others" from 2001 and don't look up anything about it, great film with amazing performances, and a very distinct style/aesthetic that I think you'll dig.
I would survive approx 1 min in Society of the Snow and then pass away from stress 💀 I love your whole look in this video btw!!
I watched a show called dance life and it was honestly so good 😊
I need go get to the theater more. I saw a few movies but its a blur lol
Pls review Semmelweis!🙏 I am really curious about your opinion😍

"Lego Batman GIF "
have you seen the beats in the jungle? it's charming
what website/software do you use for movie clips?
❤🎥🎞🎬

7. Philadelphia (1993)
8. Poor Things (2023)
9. Stand By Me (1986)
Could you tell us which signs would be the protagonists of the movie one day?
Great
How do you get this color for your videos?
Where can you watch lesson in chemistry?.
Argentina🇦🇷 and Uruguay 🇺🇾❤
I want to know you rating for every movie
I looved Society of The Snow! amazing movie, the best of the year in my opinion.
I saw it on theaters before it got released on Netflix, great experience. After the movie, when we were heading out to the parking lot, we ran into Roberto Canessa, one of the survivors. Humble guy.
Edit: School of Rock is one of my favorites 🤘🏼😎
i watched foe and honestly i really liked it, i might be the only one on letterboxd who rated the movie with more than 3.5 stars lol
We watched three of the same movies in January: Society of the Snow, Mean Girls (2024), and Fallen Leaves. Of the 20 movies I watched last month the best were Poor Things (it was a second viewing), Fallen Leaves (loved the deadpan humor and the wonderful color schemes), and Origin (another movie unfairly overlooked by the Academy like The Iron Claw, probably because it isn't a neat fit into any specific category... Ava DuVernay did somehting wildly ambitious and unprecedented).
You're so beautiful! 😘😍🥰💙
Am I the only one who thinks the premise for Foe sounds an awful lot like that one episode of Black Mirror with Aaron Paul and Josh Hartnett?
Mean Girls 2024 was a fun watch, though the original will forever reign superior, in my opinion. Renee Rapp, Auli'i Cravalho, Avantika and Jaquel Spivey definitely stole the show for me.
I agree with all the names you mentioned! Those were the highlight performances for sure
