Great video. I've been Civil War reenacting ( Union Infantry) for over twenty years. Their gear will last a life time if you take of it. The cheaper gear you will have to replace, maybe several times. Start with the basics first then expand later. Most units will have loaner gear for a short time until you purchase your own. Good luck and have fun. Remember to do your research! 🇺🇸 😊

Hey there everyone! A great resource for a good kit is C&C Sutlery, I'll link their website below. All you have to do is go to the website, click the section that says "VALUE Confederate/Union uniform package" and select your sizes and order! It's $177 (+$25 S&H) and comes with a sack/shell coat, trousers, shirt, kepi, belt, and CS/US buckle. As for a rifle, they're all gonna run you upwards of 1k brand new, so try and buy good used. You can usually find em for like $400+. Hope this helps some of y'all trying to get into reenacting!

Matt Damon vertually all canteens used during the war could be found floating around after the war. But usually the ones that would have lasted the decades would have been the metal canteens. Either military smooth side canteens, bullseye style, or even copper or brass canteen/flask type canteens that some confederate used.
You can maybe get away with being alone, but I'd strongly advise talking to any groups before the event and temporarily join them for the battle. But be sure you know your stuff. Drill stances, orders, and such. Though it is more ideal to be in a Regiment than be alone.

Really depends; a used uniform and gear can run as low as $250. It sounds like a lot, but if you get it a bit at a time, you'll get everything you need more quickly and cheaper than you'd think.
Should I do a civil war reenactment before I enlist in the United States Air Force? Which, by the way I'm entering my Junior year. Next year is my senior year. I'm enlisting after my senior year. Hey, I’m black and I’m thinking of getting into reenacting. Do I need to find a colored unit to join (For historical accuracy) or can I just join any unit near me?
You would have to check with the units historical guidelines. Most units were all white. And colored units were all black minus the officers. I've ran into a couple over the years and they've all been great guys that are usually very dedicated to authenticity. There's even some recreated Confederate colored units out there I think.

The 12th Georgia is out of mass. They have guys from all over the new England area. A good unit with good people. I've reenacted many times with them before.
Probably not. Depends on the unit I'd say. Being as how most unit colors are hundreds or thousands of dollars a piece; being a flag bearer is a very special and trusted position. No one person does it normally. It's whoever wants to do it. But that being said it's certainly never a new recruit. But as long as you're at least 16 you can field with a musket in any where from the French & Indian War to the Civil War.
In my experience, a lot of units WILL allow someone under the age of 18 to be a flagbearer. As the video says, they'd probably prefer a musician, but any unit would be happy to have you, regardless of what role you want.
If you have the upper body strength to brace one of those flags against the wind, that's a decision for your unit. Generally, not a position granted to newer members. But you never know.
