      @@missgworl3918 It's no more expensive than buying a new dress from a shop. I brought 4 yards of material just over £15. But the great thing about making your own clothes is the achievement of doing so. And if you design your own clothes, it's unique. That's what I love about making your own clothes. Or if you like a certain piece of clothing that much, and you want to copy it, but with a different fabric and pattern. So worth it.

    There's no reason to switch your pins, doing them vertical or horizontal is a personal choice and I've seen professionals do them the same way you do. It actually makes a lot of sense because the pins are running along the same direction the stitches will be.
    And the dress turned out super cute! I love the back detailing!

    • @pien9257
      @pien9257 3 года назад +2

      If you do them vertical you can sew over them when you're lazy (I do occasionally break a needle but not too often)

    • @user-pl4yq1oc1y
      @user-pl4yq1oc1y 3 года назад

      @@pien9257 You may get some puckering doing that though. Not judging though, we all take the easy way sometimes :) Just dont think you should correct someone else when they're doing it correctly ;)

    • @totallyrandomd1714
      @totallyrandomd1714 3 года назад +9

      @@pien9257 You can damage your machine by sewing over pins. I have heard about multiple people who have sewn over a pin, had it break and a piece fall into the works and break the machine. Much rarer is breaking a pin and having a piece fly off and potentially hurt you, I've only heard one story about that but the pin bit got in someone's eye. I highly recommend never sewing over pins, or only sewing over them by manually cranking the hand wheel when it is necessary to hold things in place.

It would be more helpful if you say “this width is your bust measurement, or measure from your collar bone to waist..” etc. Thanks ☺️

I was shopping at a discount store the other day and found some items that had fantastic fabric but didn't quite fit right and wondered if someone like you would buy them and then take them apart to alter or make something entirely different out of them? If so, would love to see a video about that!

      The first thing I do before every upcycling is determine how much fabric I have and what details I can reuse for the new piece. It also helps figuring out what you want to do with it before you buy it. For example if you have a pillow case, you won't be able to make a long skirt but you could make a cute top or mini skirt and if it has a zipper or button closure you won't even need do worry about doing that :-)
