It used to be 4 weeks when I worked there in 2004. One week was dedicated to hand-copying all the Sheriff's policy documents so you could never say you never saw them. Then we covered the high liability topics and in between we got put out on the road to help with the three hurricanes that hit during our training.

Having new Deputies hand copying policies is an obscene waste of time and resources. Whoever came up with that idea should have been fired.

@@None-ef6nf Funny I said the same thing at the time. I almost got myself fired before being able to formally start FTO!

I don't understand the Firearms Qualifications part of the BRT. It's my understanding that firearms proficiency is a CJSTC-regulated topic and every agency in Florida shoots the same course of fire, against the same target, and has to hold its officers to the same minimum score.
Is this not correct? Are agencies permitted to maintain their own standards?

An agency can have their own qualification standards, if they do you still have to qualify with the states course.

@IRatherbeTrashthanADemocrat So an agency would put its officers or deputies through two separate courses of fire?

still amazes me that they taze the recruits.
Yes they want them to know how it feels but I have never seen them shooting recruits so they know how a bullet feels.
