Can you download the app with an old phone that is not on a phone plan--ie can't use for calls? Just use the wifi, I guess?
Exactly. I use an old android phone (with no service) connected to either my home WiFi or to my iPhone hotspot.
Can I add the tft sport with this moto scan's app?
Maybe with the ultimate edition. You should go on the MotoScan web site and send the developer an email... I had a question about which version to buy and he replied in a couple hours.

Are there any apps for iPhone that can pull this off?
No. Unfortunately it only works with android. I just posted on my Facebook page and have several friends offer me old android phones they had sitting around the house.
