First of all this is what I love about your channel it’s straight forward and not just about the good things, though I might not always agree I respect your opinion.
I was a bit sceptical of the beacon because Harris had praised it (not to say he’s a bad person or anything) but he has a tendency to promote and praise certain products and companies, so I’m glad you got to review it.
Secondly I saw a lot of people commenting that they liked the permanent gate because of their untreated room, and I just want to point to those people who heavily use a gate, that using a gate in a untreated room or a noisy environment is often counterproductive.
Even in a quiet space...a gate can do some wonky things.
The sonic experience of a gate in a loud room though is one of the worst listening experiences a person can have

Really excellent video. People should realize a company having a product you like doesn't absolve them of accountability for bad actions.
One major issue I can see from the point you raised is that acoustic echo canceller (AEC) used on virtual meeting platforms could get impacted negatively when a loudspeaker is used for audio playback of the far-end participants. When using AEC, non-linear processing including noise gate and compressor placed BEFORE AEC alters echo paths and could deteriorate both near-end mic sound and far-end playback. Since AEC is activated on software codec on these virtual meeting platforms, you basically shouldn't use any non-linear processing for this configuration unless you have an external DSP unit with AEC (which is very expensive). Anyway, for this reason, AEC on software codec will ALWAYS deteriorate the audio when this audio interface is used no matter what its users do (unless they either turn off AEC (which will let the echoes loop back to far-end participants) or use their headphones and turn off loudspeakers to monitor far-end participants).

Great video! Unfortunately, we live in a time where the hypothetical mindset is not acceptable. A product may be designed for 'live streamers" doesn't mean every "live streamer" needs to support its design. You proved they misrepresented the specs, it doesn't mean you're telling everyone to boycott the product. What works for some doesn't work for all.

Its not a gamechanger because it has the same features as the years old Presonus Revelator series, but a bit worse - they also have OBS integration, studio one integration and a more comprehensive chain. Theyre selling out the io44 for $80, probably worth grabbing one as a comparison, its main problem is it uses a CS4270 ADDA which isnt true balanced so despite the balanced pre its a bit noise prone, notably also prone to ultrasonic interference issues from its cut down filter.
Personally I do like the Beacn EQ...but I guess that all comes down to taste.
I also prefer the routing of Beacn.
Presonus did a great job as well though
Ah-ha! So that's why it was so noise prone. Such a shame, if they had just committed to better internals that would've been a killer interface.
@@DarkCornerStudios For $80 it was a bit of a no-brainer for streaming ease despite my multichannel interfaces. Not that i particularly like Presonus as a company but theyre decent value, if a lil hit or miss. I think you have the Eris 5 Monitors too? Just ridiculous for the money.
@@nickglover such a stupid place on a $200 interface to save $5 at most over a CS4272 which would have been fine - they powered Scarlett G1-3 and sill power the Behringers among others.
You've earned my sub from these two videos on the BEACN Studio. I was on the fence about the product, but this helps to reaffirm why I've always stayed away from this team since their days working on the GoXLR.

The only thing I'll say, and this is as someone who really doesn't much care for Beacn, is that it's possible this is just a bug. You clearly have everything turned off, but maybe the software is just bugged and it's not actually turning it off. Maybe you already tested that, just by doing the same whisper thing and just toggling each on and off or by adjusting the settings so that it's effectively off even when it's on. If that's the case and it is just a bug and they can fix it, no harm no foul, so in that sense I do think it would be worth talking to their people about it. But if it is a feature and not a bug, then yeah, 100% agree with you.
@nickglover outside of the obvious marketing material...it's hard to tell...however...it's reacting exactly the way that would be indicated by that same marketing material

I was going to give beacn another chance after the recent updates, good know that might not be a good idea. they still lie and refuse to admit their issue, it took 3 years just get their software half decent and i was a day one adopter of the mix create. They have to many rooster riders that say they're awesome and that the lies they spewy don't matter pathetic. And they ban users that confront them about 3 year old issues they promised to fix.

Is it that big a deal? I’ve listened to other reviews and none of them had this issue. Also realistically what streamer or content creator is going to purposely be whispering or talking low into their mic? This would only affect asmr people I feel like.

Interesting, I agree with you after seeing your testing, and then point out a bug in the beta studio software causing the issues you had in your testing that cant be repeated in the current beacn software, and you delete it from your comments

I did your test on my beacn software and it worked like what you where expecting, so im wondering if the beta studio software has a bug that caused your situation. Again, I do agree that with your that that is NOT what should be happening when you turn all those off!!
