Wow! I haven't played Strat-o-Matic since the 1990's, when we used to have draft picks and tournaments. Lots of fun! Thanks for the update and the trip down memory lane!
Great video to get me started on a weekend where my league has our draft of new players...the highlight of the season. 50 years! The Fly By Night Baseball Association. Started as a play by mail league, now combo of internet and face-to-face as about 10 guys live in Connecticut area. My first set was the 1972 season. Card quality was much better in those days. A couple years actually had like a sheen on them so they never stuck together. '75 Reds were more dominant in regular season, '76 dominated the post season.
Nice video. I have dozens of SOM sets and APBA. I ordered the 76 SOM set after watching your video. As you said, the card quality still sucks. Their customer service is atrocious. Still, they have the best game engine in my opinion.
I still can't get used to the card patterns with an out on 9 in their good column, not sure what year that came about. Before that it was always straight hits from 4-10 with the outs on 2, 3, 11 and 12.... Kingman a 5 at three positions, wow...
That definitely was. But, the 22 set is a little better quality - not by much, though. The cards don't stick as much and they are like a micromillimeter thicker.
Aren't they more like the early 2000 sets? Those are thicker.......Where is the Bucky Dent card for game 163 :).......the 2022 set, most of the players look like Dave Kingman
I finally got around to playing this 1976 set. Yes they are very thin.

You gotta return. I came back a few years ago after being away for about 45 years
@@michaelmeyerson5051 Finding the time, and the players in Can. is difficult, especially live, which is what I want to play. I did love the game!
Great job Sportsman as always. Love your channel!
Thank you! Appreciate it.
7:35 mvp. Mike trout- like card

TRUE!! 1975 Reds More Dominant!!
@@butchhaber6888 41-9 stretch sometime after Foster was put in LF if I recall correctly
Ready and waiting for mine...... Hope they do 1979 and 1978 soon!
I ordered the 76 season last night.
Just got my set yesterday too 🙂
Hope all is well
I agree, I didn't like the look of the font on the '76 cards.
I think Zuhlke is a serious contender for the Cy Young ⚾️
Valentine WOULD hit .367 if he wore a fake mustache
Cool story about dave guisti
Thanks. One of my favorites.
Great review Bob as always. I got a Double off Bill Swift back in 1979 playing American Legion! Great story about your Dad!
Great Dave Guisti story!
How many players are carded per team?
It varies a little depending on the team, but all teams appear to have at least 26 players. Some as many as 31.
Thanks
Interesting Morgan is a 2 BASIC and a 1 on the back
8:47 you can’t show Bif Pocoroba without showing Bob Apodaca

I see what you’re talking about on the SADV side of the cards. It looks like they went with a more ‘neo’ sans serif type face-I’m a fan.
Joe Morgan 1976 Card Stratomatic says #2 on basic should definitely be #1 fielding as in original 1976 cards ....
Hey Z -- the AL instituted the DH three seasons earlier - in 1973. 👍🙂 Love the video & the new card set. ⚾️

Yes, I remember that, too. But, I don't remember what year they changed it, either.
Great video. The better quality cards are for only the 2022 cards not 1976.
Maybe it was the Strat Black set that was the better card stock. Not 76 or 22.
That definitely was. But, the 22 set is a little better quality - not by much, though. The cards don't stick as much and they are like a micromillimeter thicker.

Bucky Dent’s game 163 card would be for 1978 😃
Z man. How many players carded per team on the new 76 set?
It varies by team between 26 and like 30. Most are around 26 or 27.
