- So this is my very first reading of a classic public domain horror story! I am going to be back soon with some more Reddit stories in the coming weeks but will be taking a but of a break from uploads whilst I train for a new job out of State!
The mothers grief broke my heart. You did a great job conveying her emotions.
Thank you!
I've read almost all the books of Dickens. It's very good to listen to his books. So very happy. Thanks for sharing.
Very good narration. Keep it coming!!!
I love the old Victorian ghost stories narrated with an English accent and if you do some I’ll def listen! Let’s hear some MR James!
Charles Dickens IS a Victorian era author & his work does include many ghost stories....
The English accent is essential.
Wonderful narration. And wonderful choice -- Charles Dickens!
Sheridan Le Fanu wrote some spooky stuff. The best -- _Uncle Silas_ would be too long for a book narration, but it sure gave me the creeps!
I am about a year late, but that was enjoyably read, reminded me a little of Jude Law. I normally listen to the excellent 'Bite Size Classics' channel.
Hope your job went well in the end.
Thank you for upload
I love Bitesized Audio Classics too. 🙂
Very enjoyable. I'm a fan of Victorian ghost stories, too. You did an excellent job. Especially with Dickens.
Pleasant reading voice. Well done.
Thank you!
Excellent narration thank you.
I love Dickens and I really enjoyed this story. Please select more like it to present to us. Thank you!
Excellent narration. Dickens is exquisite, as always.
You are amazing!
Thanks for uploading such great classical stuff. You made my night
Love these old classic tales. The story of human experience withstands time.
I really enjoyed hearing this! Thanks for your audio, wish you all the best xx
Absolutely GREAT reading...I can't wait to hear more of my favorites!
Thank you! I plan to do some more in the future
Very well told. Look forward to more.
Thank you. Another will be coming out this week
I enjoyed the story. You read well. Thanks.
Thank you!
Absolutely brilliant narration, thanks a lot!
Bravo! You were wonderful! What a perfect narration talent you have! Please do more! ADORE Dickens!
Dickens is one of my favorite authors. Your reading was fantastic :) Thanks for the entertainment! On to the next one :)
Excellent story very well narrated. I look forward to hearing more from you, you have a lovely voice which is very easy to listen to. Thank you 🙏
Beautiful read!
Very well done. I think you should continue .
Your soft voice and choice of rhythm were perfect fits for this narration. Thank you for the upload. I chose to play this in the background for a listen while driving home from work at night.
Well read - narrated- lovely clear voice.
Maupassant is a french classic autor, he wrote short horror stories in the end of his life and a lot of them are quite good in my opinion.
Tyvvm for the story tonight. You've a wonderful voice. Best wishes on the job too 😃
Spooky audiobooks are a must in the winter ❄️👻
I love the old Victorian/Gothic horror genre of books. Your reading was spot on❤️
Refreshing finding a classic like this. Thank you so much.
You’re welcome, thanks for watching
@@talesofhighstrangeness as a vet editor and ptEditor of prime Time Cable and network hits I have to say that with some of the best generation I’ve ever heard please do a lot more of these classic ghost stories. Try MR James Algernon Blackwood, Le Faneu, Henry James, Edith Wharton, oh God and so many others. Please try to do many more of these sir your extremely talented.
Yet again my senses are awoken by your incredible narration!
I really enjoyed listening to this, much more than creepypastas
A great story that I've not had the chance to read so this was a treat. As for other classic horror authors, maybe M R James. He's got quite the catalogue of spooky stories and I think they might be in the public domain. You have a fantastic voice and I look forward to more readings.
Good luck with the training.
Adore Charles Dickens📚📖
Thank you!
Enjoying your narration.🙂
I love your voice. You did a great job! I would like to encourage you to do more.
This is really great, thank you for picking and narrating such a good story. I'm impressed and subscribed to your channel.
Thank you!
Really well read, there are audio books that i would like to listen to but the narrators make it impossable because they ham it up so much.
Enjoyed this, thought I’d heard most of Dickens, but not this. Thanks for posting.
Hope to hear from you soon.👍👏
I also wasn’t aware of this Dickens story. Many thanks!
A grim and horrific tale. Today, it may serve as a point of comparison between the victorian era and our own. For me, what puts the story over the top, is the doctor's extraordinary generosity.
Omg i love it Mr Sinister
Thank you!
@@talesofhighstrangeness thank you
Thanks a million! Your voice is magnificent!
I only wish all narrators were as good as you. You did a very nice job.
That was a very good narration, thank you for your efforts. I love Dickens and modernising his works can sometimes reveal things hidden in his old English, well done
Thank you, Rob!
Beautifully read, I loved listening to this and will now seek out your other readings. Thank you
This was really great! I really enjoyed this a lot. Thank you!
you did a great job! it flowed so well, your timbre of voice is calming, and i enjoyed this very much. l subscribed :)
so glad you’re going to do classical literature. so many of the really good readers only do scary ghost stories and the macabre. and i long for other kinds of literature. thanks so much. have a great day. :) 🌷🌿🌼🌱🌷
Well done! More please. This was a wonderful story.
Beautifully read
Thank you!
I'm an avid follower & wait for your uploads! I'm not really a Dickens fan but your narration, as usual, is on point! I'm sad to hear you can't ride the current momentum of your channel and I hope you're able to continue regular uploads because I want your channel to succeed and grow! Good luck with the new job! 😊
Thank you! I’ll be back with weekly uploads once I get back from training and have access to my studio. Great news is my new job is remote so I have no excuse to dedicate former commute time to creating content! Are there any classic writers you are a fan of?
@@talesofhighstrangeness Hi! I will have a think, I'm sure I could come up with some. Great you're able to work from home, I look forward to more weekly content.
@@talesofhighstrangeness Lovecraft is an all time fave and I believe all his works are in the public domain.
Gotta love the classic spookies!!!
You are REALLY GOOD at this.
Your stories are always so good! thanks mr sinister❤️

Love Dickens and studying him at school was very useful
I wish I could hug and kiss this narrator! Wonderful...

Thank you, Shirley!
A pleasant surprise!😊👍
I vote for works by Wilkie Collins. He's certainly been read by others, but I think you'd be a good fit. Thx.
Very much enjoyed this.
Good narration. Nice job.
You narrated very well and I learnt from you how to read long sentences
Beautiful narration. Thank you.
You should have seen my face at the end of this - not because of the story’s twist ending, but because I was so surprised when I realized you were reading and not simply the professional audiobook recording that a kind person uploaded!!
I have scoured this app, and thought I found every talented reader who possesses both narrative skills and the rarity of emotive acting talent... there never seems to be quite enough! Then I found YOU! You read dark gothic and Victorian ghost stories, literature, and supernatural high strangeness, too?! 😊 Thank you ever so kindly. I’m happy to like, subscribe and ring the bell 🛎
Thank you, Reagan! I really want to get into audiobooks, looking into it these next few weeks!
@@talesofhighstrangeness That sounds good and I really look forward to watching/listening! I’m making my way through a lot of your content and I simply don’t know how I could’ve missed you, when I am actively searching for this. So grateful to have found your channel!
Loved it!
Thank you, great job...I love Sherlock Holmes ❤
I found this story rather difficult to follow but I do appreciate your effort. I enjoy HP Lovecraft stories...The Rats In the Walls is a good one.
Yeah I found it a little hard to follow too! I’m looking at some Lovecraft next.
Well done sir! 🇺🇸
Thanks!
Thoroughly enjoyed this. Thanks
You’re welcome, thank you!
Most enjoyable looking forward to hearing more of the same in future, you've got me hooked & subscribed
Really nice narration
Nice brother. I very much enjoyed that.
First time to your channel man. Hope you've got some August Derleth in here.
Great work.
Thank you, Jeremy. I’ll check out August Derleth. Need to see if his works are Public Domain
It was perfectly.narrated, i really enjoyed listening, thank you!! 🙏
Thank you, aemcapello!
Any Edgar Allen Poe in the public domain? I know he's an American writer, but if I'm not mistaken, he's one of the first American horror writers.
Very good, well done!
Well done.
I really enjoyed this story your style was wonderful 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾well done 👍🏾
Thank you, Lisa!

You did really well. Thank you from Canada.
I'm not sure if you've already done it but how about stories by O' Henry, or shorts by Mark Twain.
Great narration of a great story!
Thank you!
Good job
Love it
New sub! Thanks!!
Oliver Twist by Dickens
Very good
Thank you soooooooooooooooooooooo use full
Great!
Thank you, Miranda!
Why is this wrongly tagged as a horror story? Its a social short story. Was looking for a juicy ghost story on a winter evening, ended up with something completely different. Not done
I’m sure everyone has their own slightly different interpretation of “horror story”. This was great and I’m so appreciative for this free entertainment.
@@Laura-tp8wz thanks for courageously sharing your special preferences. Its not easy so what you have done is very brave.
@@guharup
You are welcome. 💐
Yet MORE starting of sentences with an illogical "so"!
Why?
Reminds me of the crucifixion.
