I used Word for all six of my books and it was a pain to convert them into ebooks. I've been using Scrivener for two years and I love it. I'm out ling my next novel now. I love Scrivener.
@@harryturnbull1884You have to export it into a compatible file format and import it into Scrivener, its not that hard, just a-lot of back and forth and files. Much better than doing it by hand though
Flow...? How about copy and paste? Make an outline and fill in the content from wherever... well, not from other's writings, of course!!!@@harryturnbull1884
I like that you hand write your work in paper notebooks, because that is exactly the way I work in my career as a software developer. The physical effort of writing with a pen on paper takes extra time which one can use to think about the content being written about, and that is good. You can write on paper just about anywhere, as your video shows. I use pencil rather than pen for my own paper notes. These notes cover a variety of technical things. Perhaps team member will need tabular information -- that is, information from a table. Maybe only one row of content is wanted but the need is there. So I quickly build a table in pencil. It looks really sloppy but is accurate. I can quote from it rapidly in an email or virtual meeting. I'm sure you find using paper is an excellent way to think about the novel you are writing as a whole and the individual scenes. Your willingness to hand write your book scenes, is an excellent idea.
Thanks for the video. I'm not the brightest crayon color in the box, so0 I have questions. 1) A bidding author is told to double space, use a certain font etc. Will Scrivener do the same? 2) can portions of this already written chapters be transferred back and forward from MS Word.? Once downloaded, can I write where there is no internet access?
thats it! i will use scrivener now. but if i write a first draft by hand i will need doctors to make my hand into the shape of a hand again!! thank you for helping!! my favorite part of scrivener will be what you first described, how it gives a structure to enter your notes in as you get new ideas every day that consist of scenes, dialogue, character traits, the world etc. because theres nothing more overwhelming than having a big list of ideas that need ti fit categories to be able to sort through, and actualky utilize while writing the story!
I know I'm nitpicking but the binder gray scale color. Is there any way to change it? Maybe make it darker like it was in Scrivener 2. Also, the corkboard index cards now are black cards without the blue horizontal lines (though they retained the red top line). Can that be restored?
Does Scrivener have a formatting feature for Smashwords? I am currently rewriting a safety manual for stage performers and will be publishing it there. If Scrivener can handle formatting and image insertion it sounds great!
Hi there! Sorry you experienced some issues! We're happy to help you. Just shoot an email to tech@thebookincubator.com and we can get it worked out for you! :)
Pro Tip: select a chapter, character sketch, or notes (etc) from the left and then hit the spacebar. It opens that specific page in another window. It's amazing to use while in composition/focus mode and you have two screens.
Hello, and thanks for watching! I don't have a Scrivener course, but I do have a free training on how to write your book! Here's the link in case you're interested. :) www.thebookincubator.com/ Once you fill out our short application, you'll be sent the link to the video training. Feel free to reach out with any questions to hello@thebookincubator.com. Thanks!
Good video, But I can only find videos and tutotrals on how to write novels. I don't want to write a novel - I want to write a true story about an incident that happened in my life. But I can't find any help for that at all? Has no one else ever written such a book??
There are lots of resources for nonfiction. Google “writing nonfiction” and “writing a memoir.” Some book examples are Writing About Your Life by William Zinsser. Blueprint for a Nonfiction Book. How to Write Non-Fiction by Joanna Penn. There are lots of RUclips channels that discuss this as well.
Yes but paper is a very permanent copy of your writing and actually really nice to have and look back on. Also transcribing it to scrivener or word or whatever is a chance to edit out bits that don't work. Don't have loads of notes everywhere though. Just one notebook, keep your work together. Just my suggestions. 👍💕
You have to export it into a compatible file format and import it into Scrivener, its not that hard, just a-lot of back and forth and files. Much better than doing it by hand though
This was VERY misleading. This is NOT a walkthrough for Scrivener, its a feature list/ sales pitch for Scrivener. How do you add folders? How do you set up your binder? What does the Scrivener terminology mean? How do you create new scenes? How do you toggle light/dark mode? How do you create templates? How do you create labels? What is the "Notes" feature, and how do you use it? What if you are writing a series? How can you put several books into one project to keep consistency when you're writing your books? I appreciate you telling us features, but how do you USE Scrivener? THAT is a walkthrough.
The video on scrivener is great. The free training is misleading and leads to a 12k course and if you select that you are looking for low cost course she rejects your request to join (because she knows you’re not willing to pay her prices ) . Maybe good for those you can afford . I’m not sure 😅
I would simply write everything on Word and then I care about the typos and mistakes so that undo button is a pain to look at to see the thousand mistakes and I backspace then end up staring at a blank document for hours and no progress is done and I write the same paragraph over and over and then backspace and then repeat then I detele then I re open a new document I re format and then write it again and repeat and delete the folders and clear storage and repeat so I checked out Scrivener to solve all my problems but then I realized how expensive it is for upfront payment and then I realized that I'll have to continuously learn how to use this program because it is so difficult to learn how to use it on your own and some videos aren't helpful and some are informative it's so much learning I just want one program where I can navigate everything on my own in real time and it has grammar and AI like quilbot included and focus mode and that I could get to my word count goal and deadline goal on time and focus on outline and note and research organized folders thats it.
@2:45 so google docs works this way as well... @3:10 google docs does this too... In theory, I've never tried moving chunks around, but I just name my files with a 1/2/3/4/etc in front, and then I just rename them if I want to reorder them. I just write chapters/scenes one by one, each doc, and put a number in front. I make a timeline and that's how I decide what to number each chapter/scene... @4:28, google docs are very easy to share with literally anyone who has a google account... I do like the countdown thing; I'm trying to figure out how this will be better for me than google docs... which is free...

Can you take some work and flow it into Scriv or do you have to manually type every line in?

I am simple, I really love the composition mode the most. no distractions, just plain space to write in. simple but so necessary
Thank you. While sleeping last evening, I wrote my entire play. It was an amazing experience and now I’m putting it to paper. I’ll try Scrivner.
Thanks, Mary! I like how you abbreviated the word "end" to just 'end.'
ha!
Thank you for this! I'm in the process of scaling my Ghostwriting business and Scrivener is definitely worth it.
Hi, can I also add pictures and images in Scrivener?

I'm glad you've found it useful for you, too! It helps!
Can I include tables and graphs?
Thanks for the video. Can you add images with captions in Scrivener?

How do you open the first page of scrivener?
Does Scrievener live in my Mac or the cloud?
I love Scrivener. I use it for all writing and have for many years.
Do you think Scrivener would work as well for non-fiction?
I know I'm nitpicking but the binder gray scale color. Is there any way to change it? Maybe make it darker like it was in Scrivener 2. Also, the corkboard index cards now are black cards without the blue horizontal lines (though they retained the red top line). Can that be restored?

I didn’t understand how to transcribe my text!
Good overview, since I'm a new Scrivener user.
Filled it out to join in class but it said i failed the captcha something.

Thank you so much i hope to learn a lot from this channel and become a great author 🙂
Thank you for this video!
Well done!

Hey there, I just viewed your video on Scrivener and you mentioned a free course to learn to use. Are you still offering this?
Hello, and thanks for watching! I don't have a Scrivener course, but I do have a free training on how to write your book! A newbie user as of today. Downloaded my 10,000 words from Pages…now I guess I have to dissect into files?

Also, if you’re story will be shorter you should look into the essay format. Again, just google “writing essays.”
Is there a way to undo a mistake.
Doesn’t transcribing create double work?

Do you have to input everything manually or can you take a chunk of completed work and flow it in?
You have to export it into a compatible file format and import it into Scrivener, its not that hard, just a-lot of back and forth and files. Much better than doing it by hand though

Uhhh where is the click below link anybody?
It's in the description section
Click "more" in the first line under the video and the description with all the details appears
I don’t see it in there either

A much more helpful video would have been going through and showing the software and not just talking.
Nobody gonna mention how she look like Tara Reid?
Rather than your face I'd prefer to be seeing the actual interface.
You are rude and have no manners. Please point me to the better executed tutorials that YOU'VE posted on RUclips.
I kinda like her face!
Thanks, Mary. This was helpful. A follow on with a walk through the interface would be helpful as well.
Thanks Mary how can we reach you to review a draft
