Watch _Escape to Witch Mountain,_ you’ll love it. _Candleshoe_ was an enormous favorite of mine growing up, and 1970s Jodie Foster was among my first big crushes. All of those ‘60s and ‘70s live-action movies Disney filmed are glorious, even the less-accomplished ones. If you help a new generation of kids discover them, you’ll be doing the world a mitzvah!!
As much as the movie diverges from the novel, I highly recommend the novel! It's just as British, if not more so, and very compelling and well written.
