My former house in Dudley was built on the uncompleted Grand Trunk rail bed. Exploring the area as a boy around 60 year ago, I discovered numerous construction tools and artifacts, including a rusty old steam shovel!

had in-laws that lived next to a grand trunk line that was being built, had to stop it due to why it stopped, lol. this in in Dudley. near the river, and a cement construction of a small factory, metal bridge, ,,, always heard of the story, ot it's much clearer, Great video, (I'm in Worcester) and the trails look wonderful. don't know why my hubby and I never looked into it.

Leftover wood pilings would have been from the temporary construction railroad. They were not intended for the final product, which would have been all steel bridges.

Scott, Are referring to the one around 3:38 into the video? I believe I read that the French River Trestle was the only completed bridge on the line.

23:33 I grew up between the fill on Robinson Rd and the one on Mason st. We had a huge cut running through the woods behind our house, about 1/4 to 1/2 of a mile. One area had a long rock sticking out over the fill and the fill itself had become very large ponds. In the winter we used to go sledding down the very steep backside of the cut. Unfortunately it’s all gone now, plowed over for a solar farm.

This would have been interesting as the guy didn't passed away on the Titanic and they didn't have World War 1. I think this Branch line would have been part of the Providence & Worcester railroad
