Some of my fondest memories with Brook Trout was when I was 13 living in Groton Connecticut. During late fall when the snow was just starting to lightly blanket the ground and the snow flakes drifted downwards from the sky in slow motion. You can see your breath. Everything was silent except for the creek trickling slowly downhill. I made a bow from a shag bark hickory sapling near the creek, a few willow arrows, and a bowstring from parachute cord. Man I remember walking along the bank of the creek and shooting 12" plus trust and cooking them in the sandy part of the creek. Hands were frozen solid. I even caught one with my bare hand under a stone the. Stabbed it with my knife but it slipped off the blade and got swept down the current. That fish was amazing and my dad bought me a bottle of Tabasco sauce to eat with the fish.
It's very nice seeing youtubers like you and Extreme Philly Fishing really diversify the fishing content on RUclips. A large amount of Fishing RUclipsrs go primarily for bass, which is kind of cool, but is extremely repetitive and let's face it, bass fishing isn't exactly a challenge. I love your fishing videos and keep up the great work!
Using trout for bait.. in Canada that is definitely illegal, cut up or not, but ethically and from a avid trout fisherman.. wow that is a first, they are stocked for eating and sport, not to be used as bait for garbage catfish. just my opinion. p.s. I wish I was half as lucky as you to have such a strong trout fishery, stocked or not, in an urban setting.
Love your channel man, you're so lucky to live somewhere with an abundance of fish. I live in dry ass Western Australia where we don't have any fish in our rivers.
+Paul Springer I usually use chubs bluegills suckers etc but I gotta get my money's worth out of paying for a trout stamp! I don't eat trout but have to pay for the stamp just to fish for flathead bait like sunnies in approved trout waters aka my bait creeks. Plus one trout is good for 5 baits or so. Also the trout are fattier and more oily than sunnies, there's no spines and the flatheads love them. Have used trout for flatheads for many years. The trout die in these creeks in the summer, they're all mutated and dumped by bucket, idk I don't feel bad about it at all haha, it's a put and take fishery.
+Piedscooter1 hey man the trout are legal to use AND killer bait for stripers musky and flatheads, I threw back the decent ones and they'll all end up dying by the summer anyway when water temps reach 78-80 degrees. The only disgraceful thing about this is the number of mutated trout that are crammed into these creeks who in turn eat all the native creek species like dace sculpin and chub.
hey man. really enjoy watching your vids. Wish i learned these techniques sooner during my time on the east coast. lol. Thanks again for sharing. Much love from Guam!
i fish small trout streams very regularly. trout are kinda my thing, and i have never tried these. saw em for sale somewhere i think it was at walmart and thought i would look them up. it appears that they are.one of the few products that works like they claim it does on the package. im gonna have to give em a shot
Here in BC We have lots of stocked lakes but not creeks... It took me awhile and a lot of hikes to find a spot relatively close with (wild) rainbow trout over 6 inches. I'm 13 so it's pretty limited for were I can go. But brook trout remain high on my list for favorite fish to catch!
I am using trout magnets in reservoirs. Any advice I may need? I have started fishing again since giving it up in 7th grade. Back then, I only knew how to catch catfish and perch.
I just started fishing, just got my fishing license, and i have used your tips and many others and have not caught one single trout. I fish for about 6 hours everyday other day with no luck, along with my buddies, still no luck. we try different power bait, different spots. we see the fish and they see the bait, they just do not bite at all!! So today we tried night crawlers and was hoping for some luck, but same result, no fish... We moved spots, and 3 kids came by and caught 3 trout in 15 minutes, in the same exact spot we were all at. they were also using night crawlers.
If you go again youll want to use 4lb test MAXIMUM because the trout are very wise after a couple days of being fished in the creek. You can get 4lb Trilene for 6 bucks, spool up with that and try power bait or nightcrawlers again and you should have better luck! also, use small hooks like size 8
went trout fish yesterday, me and my buddies used your tips and had amazing luck. Caught a total of 10 trout, i got a fat one too, probably a 16 incher, which is a monster for me. Thanks for the tips. =)
+Mark Korona I don't get much excitement from stocked trout haha :P unless they're big or golden.. But I have fished these trout for many years and although I enjoy fishing anywhere and for everything, a small stockie doesn't get my juices flowing hah
I don't wanna complain about what your doing because your videos are awesome but couldn't you just use creek chub or suckers for flatheads instead of game fish
Come on man. You REALLY need a lesson in how to properly handle trout (if you don't want them to just die after you release them). Wet hands first, don't drop on rocks, don't keep in cooler until almost dead and then release, etc.
He says in the video he used them for Catfish cutbait--- it hardly matters. I've seen him handle other fish decently. In b4 trout aren't legal for bait---
Nice video, whens your kayak going to be fixed? Also got a 8lb blue on a bunker chunk in the bay behind Avalon NJ, any other suggestions on bait for blues/stripers?
+Bert Harris bunker chunks are best for bass and blues! You can also try soft plastic jigs and bucktails, both are great for bass/blues, try a 1/2oz-1oz bucktails or jig
Nice Vid, I don't like the whole idea of using trout as flathead bait but that's you I guess I don't eat trout either but I just catch and release but nice vid.
+Vykk Draygo I thought that was just an Australian thing! Thats what our fisheries managers do here in my area. We get them stocked in the winter and spring months before the water gets too warm.
robbiefishing There may be some areas in Texas that can support them all year round. Up in the north, or in the mountainous areas. Texas is pretty hot though. But at least we get them at some point! The state stocking program is pretty decent in general.
Love this vid and I admire your techniques: however this is one of the only streams in our area where brook trout are stocked. In the future, please consider keeping more rainbow and brown trout and avoiding brook trout. While I understand they cannot propagate naturally in this stream, it is still valuable to keep them and give other anglers a shot at catching our state fish. Happy fishing and keep up the vids
lol I fish there too, havent got any there this year since ive been there once but saw a bunch at the bridge in that main hole and only a couple at the corner your at.
Its Delco Anglers that stock the Brookies! You can find them opening day collecting money for donations. If you fish a a lot in the Philly area, especially for trout, consider tossing them a couple bucks! www.delcoanglers.org/
hey sea money im about to go surf fishing for 7 days do u have any advice for me i have never been like what bait to use what lure to use what rig set up what line(lbs)
+zachary parks depends where your going, if off jersey, bunker, clams and plugs that imitate bunker. Also recommend 20-30lb braid with a 25-30lb mono leader
+Joe Coppola also spoons aroumd 4-5 inches and plugs rangin from 6-8 inches that are silver or sometimes a chartruce back/ silver body work pretty decent
+Sea-Money Fishing Thanx like you I have the Trout stamp so I would like to do some trout fishing this season.. Any places u know of in Middlesex county?
Glad I live in Wisconsin and we have some of the best Trout Fishing in the Midwest and the streams i fish all have naturally reproducing populations. Nothing like catching a 20+ inch brown on a fly rod. To me using trout as bait is a waste.
SAIDsoe gamefish are allowed to be used for bait as long as you follow the limits and size regulations. Especially stocked fish you can use them for bait.
Never would I ever trade in my Brookies for a measly Flat Head
Will Pautz same...
FirstBite TV "
FirstBite TV catch a 30lbs flathead is worth giving up a small trout
fuck pelletheads, rather catch any catfish than pelletheads
Willis Pautz I agree. I'd rather use a dace

Really appreciate that you put the bigger ones back for other anglers to catch. Respect to you man.

Kyle Mccrea yeah I'm here in the states in Georgia and I wouldn't waste trout on cat fish either that's stupid .
Nice little fishing trip! Hadn't heard of Trout Magnets, but will check them out. Thanks for the video!
If I lived there oh man. If be a happy keeping all those trout. Tastey little fish!!!!
Cool little fishing creek! Wish I had cool places like that where I live for some quick fishing.
Love your channel man, you're so lucky to live somewhere with an abundance of fish. I live in dry ass Western Australia where we don't have any fish in our rivers.
Loved this video. Always nice to watch the preface to a larger adventure!
good man of letting that first trout go to see another day
Thanks for the trout video. I grew up doing this in the mountains.
Why wouldnt you use a different, less edible fish for bait?
+Paul Springer I usually use chubs bluegills suckers etc but I gotta get my money's worth out of paying for a trout stamp! I don't eat trout but have to pay for the stamp just to fish for flathead bait like sunnies in approved trout waters aka my bait creeks. Plus one trout is good for 5 baits or so. Oh okay, haha thanks for clarifying for me (:
+Sea-Money Fishing you should have kept them sunfish fish
+Sea-Money Fishing DISGRACEFUL!!! UNSUBSCRIBE!!! Stick to fishing crowded saltwater inlets where you can ASSociate with your own kind......in NJ!!!
+Piedscooter1 hey man the trout are legal to use AND killer bait for stripers musky and flatheads, I threw back the decent ones and they'll all end up dying by the summer anyway when water temps reach 78-80 degrees. brook trout taste the best. so much different than other trout.
hey man. really enjoy watching your vids. Wish i learned these techniques sooner during my time on the east coast. lol. Thanks again for sharing. Much love from Guam!
those Leland trout magnets work well on bluegills as well (although what doesn't, haha)
crappie and perch too
i fish small trout streams very regularly. trout are kinda my thing, and i have never tried these. saw em for sale somewhere i think it was at walmart and thought i would look them up. it appears that they are.one of the few products that works like they claim it does on the package. im gonna have to give em a shot

that palamino would have made this legendary! still a great video, can't wait for flathead season to pick up
I am using trout magnets in reservoirs. Any advice I may need? I have started fishing again since giving it up in 7th grade. Back then, I only knew how to catch catfish and perch.
Just wanted to say I love your channel, watched damn near every one of your videos. Love the way you make the vids, keep it up brotha.

+RektByUrMom what pound test line are you using?
it was just a cheap rod from walmart. think its rated for 6-10 pounds.

What camera are you using? If it's a GoPro, which model, framerate and resolution are you shooing in? Nice video!
Great video bud! You should post these on the Trout Magnet Users group on facebook!
Lol when u caught that first fish you were just like "oh" lol no excitement
+Mark Korona I don't get much excitement from stocked trout haha :P unless they're big or golden.. But I have fished these trout for many years and although I enjoy fishing anywhere and for everything, a small stockie doesn't get my juices flowing hah
Dude you make awesome videos.
+Anthony Cotto thanks man!
doyou like your loomis greenwater? i was lookin at greenwater, pro green, e6x, or avid by st coix
Why'd you release the trout that had a line coming out of it's mouth? If you were to keep and kill ONE fish, that's the one..
He was using it for bait anyways...
Not sure about PA, but in NJ its illegal to keep a fowl hooked fish.
I don't wanna complain about what your doing because your videos are awesome but couldn't you just use creek chub or suckers for flatheads instead of game fish
Good fishin. More trout vids here
Come on man. You REALLY need a lesson in how to properly handle trout (if you don't want them to just die after you release them).

Really agree
He says in the video he used them for Catfish cutbait--- it hardly matters. I've seen him handle other fish decently. In b4 trout aren't legal for bait---
Take a shot every time he says trout magnet
+Ethan Kusiak i like living
Or brook trout
Dude I would be passed out by then
Good Vids man what camera are you using?
can you use a small split shot to cast further without the action of the lure being affected?
Mike Brooks yes
Nice video, whens your kayak going to be fixed?
Also got a 8lb blue on a bunker chunk in the bay behind Avalon NJ, any other suggestions on bait for blues/stripers?
+Bert Harris bunker chunks are best for bass and blues! You can also try soft plastic jigs and bucktails, both are great for bass/blues, try a 1/2oz-1oz bucktails or jig
+Sea-Money Fishing thanks ill try it, what trailer do you use?
I'm just waiting for the rainbow trout
those trout are giant compared to the trout where i live!
Nice Vid, I don't like the whole idea of using trout as flathead bait but that's you I guess I don't eat trout either but I just catch and release but nice vid.
Down side of being in Texas, we only get trout stocked in the winter.
+Vykk Draygo I thought that was just an Australian thing! Thats what our fisheries managers do here in my area. We get them stocked in the winter and spring months before the water gets too warm.

Can you please teach me how you are using the lure? Are you throwing the lure and let it flow with current?
I think I was casting and retrieving .
What town is this? I am from Drexel hill and I can't figure out where you are. I know this creek like the back of my hand!
Nice video man, how do you like the trout magnets, I am thinking of getting some?
When did you film this?
Because this spot seems pretty emptied out now. Not many at all there.
where exactly is this spot?
pimplahdon It dried up.
You are good at fishing my biggest fish was 9ib
enjoyed your video and subscribed tight lines 👊
What other types of trout are good for flatfish bait?
why would you give up trout for flatheads
you should come to San Diego dude! we'll catch some calico bass, halibut, and some big sharks and rays.
one mans target species is a flathead fishermans's bait
Yea but the stockers are easy pickings. I'd rather catch a 20" brown than a 20lbs flathead anyday.
you call that small the ones they stock in upstate ny are half that size.
5:56 is it a really a brown trout? Beacuse it looks like apache trout, mayby im wrong, correct me if i do
lol I fish there too, havent got any there this year since ive been there once but saw a bunch at the bridge in that main hole and only a couple at the corner your at.
Use a gold white or salmon fix for palominos they love those colors
Darby creek now that's what I'm talking about. I live right there
Can you go in you kayak fishing on sea again? You videos are nice!
Here in Utah, The limit for sunfish is 50.
Why aren't you keeping the redbreasted sunfish for bait?
Its Delco Anglers that stock the Brookies! You can find them opening day collecting money for donations. If you fish a a lot in the Philly area, especially for trout, consider tossing them a couple bucks! www.delcoanglers.org/
Why would he through back the big ones?
What bait is that you are using again?
hey sea money im about to go surf fishing for 7 days do u have any advice for me i have never been like what bait to use what lure to use what rig set up what line(lbs)
+zachary parks depends where your going, if off jersey, bunker, clams and plugs that imitate bunker. Also recommend 20-30lb braid with a 25-30lb mono leader
+Fishin PA what plugs do you like that imitate bunker?
i will be going to golf shore alabama and i also wana fish for baby sharks off shore could i use what i catch as cut bait for those
+Joe Coppola storm shads are good theres tons of colors to throw and they have great action
+Joe Coppola also spoons aroumd 4-5 inches and plugs rangin from 6-8 inches that are silver or sometimes a chartruce back/ silver body work pretty decent
how do you fish your trout magnets
Trout magnets work real good in certain times of they year. Nice work. Hope you can check out some of my trout vids.
is this the one off of earles lane ?
What part of Darby creek is this
How much weight did u use with the trout magnet??
+Sea-Money Fishing Thanx like you I have the Trout stamp so I would like to do some trout fishing this season.. Any places u know of in Middlesex county?
Whens that flathead video coming out
in NC the brook trout only get to be 13 inches at the most 15 usually we catch them 7 inches
Glad I live in Wisconsin and we have some of the best Trout Fishing in the Midwest and the streams i fish all have naturally reproducing populations. Nothing like catching a 20+ inch brown on a fly rod. To me using trout as bait is a waste.
The nicest brooke trout are out in cali in the high sierras that are native and has a buitiful red color
since when can you use trout for bait?
Are they wild?
i ALWAYS USE TROUT MAGNETS THEY ARE THE BEST AN NIGHT CRAWLERS
JUST CURIOS so don't get mad, aren't game fish like trout usually not allowed to be used as bait?
SAIDsoe if.you are using chunks of trout meat you're fine. but if you are using them whole and live you may get in some trouble
SAIDsoe gamefish are allowed to be used for bait as long as you follow the limits and size regulations. Especially stocked fish you can use them for bait.
Nice. Starting up the flathead Friday's again I'm guessing?
+Robert Stair whenever I can get some good flathead footage, yes, but so far it's been tough!
+Sea-Money Fishing so you can use trout for bait in your state? in az you would get i nice ticket lol
Do more of these trout vids!
i don't care if there stocked they're still nice fish to catch, u shouldn't use them as bait
MarchJude_ - well he is a grown man and has the the right to do what ever he wants to do with his fish
which rod do you use?
You are always on the grass & brush, do you ever get bitten by ticks?
surprisingly not one this year.
+Sea-Money Fishing why don't you eat them? Your wasting perfectly good fish
I like to eat trout. Trout are not baitfish, bluegills are
agreed.
EMK Bacon thanks for agreeing
What part of Darby creek are you at
But love your videos btw
Is a trout magnet a jig with a small shad???!!
+Joost Stonemountain more or less, just a tiny jig
+Sea-Money Fishing okay iam fishing with a 3 grams lead and than an swifel with a line 1 meter with powerbait That is how i catch trout
what brand makes the lure that you are using
Leland lures
pretty sure that bad eyed trout was a tiger trout or some type of hybrid
Hey where do you fish?
i was under the impression that "gamefish" could not be used for bait in PA?...no?
Any game fish of legal size can be used as bait
+unionse7en Yep, as long as its legal season and size you can do whatever you want with the gamefish you catch.
+Sea-Money Fishing makes sense!
ZEMEX ONYX Boron Stream Trout ?
