- the two screen version of björk's black lake, taken from the album vulnicura.
shot on location in iceland by award-winning director andrew thomas huang, the ten minute long film for ‘black lake’ was commissioned by the museum of modern art, new york and debuted there earlier this year.
the film includes motifs from the icelandic landscape-caves, ravines, lava, and moss fields-and reflects ideas of pain, perishing, and rebirth. ‘black lake’ was realized in collaboration with the 3-d design firm autodesk, who worked along with david benjamin and the living on the installation at moma. ‘black lake’ was produced by andrew thomas huang’s uk based music video production company colonel blimp.

Vulnicura...A Triumph of Heartbreak
yes it is!
I am a grown ass man, but I can't help but cry at this. So sacred. So powerful.
The sting arrangement from 1997 says it was played in 1983 then 1993. It tells me I must kill myself to destroy the eye. I can’t do that, but I will check her other music out. The new ones are nicer. There are lies in everything to hide truth as pure truth is dangerous over many years, unless man deals with it. Arse… not man… human.
Cool song though, gotta listen to the words next, lol.
So sad, that as “a grown ass man,” you think you are not allowed the human right to shed a tear
@@omnis1182 oh not that. It was more a "I have not experienced motherhood, nor betrayal like this and I'm in aw at how eloquently and crisp she is able to transmit it to ME" situation, but thx.
@@joedoni3513 Understood. My bad. I can certainly relate. Cheers man
Björk is a musical experience. It is not for everyone to have it!
This is such an incredibly intensive song.
I heard it several times before on the album itself, without videos -- the several "pauses" are just incredibly powerful and meaningful - and emotionally demanding, really. I can fully understand her being drained performing it.
Now, with this video, there is an additional layer of both beauty and meaning. And it makes so much sense, without diminishing my original feelings - extremely well done!
(It helps of course that both Bjork and Iceland continue to be visually stunning as well ! Nordic Beauty FTW!)
"Did I love you too much? Devotion bent me broken
So I remained, destroyed the icon"
So I rebelled*
This dismantles all of me:
"I am a glowing shiny rocket
Returning home
As I enter the atmosphere
I burn off layer by layer."
I think of the film gravity in that part
that basically means Fairy.
That's the only part of the entire song I don't like. I don't get the meaning, honestly. It sounds out of place and corny.
@@quinnthereaux7719 I think it's powerful. It could signify that she is shedding layers of pain and returning to happiness, or it could conjur the image that she is disintegrating and coming undone.
@@alexferguson1139 I do love the sentiment and more rooted meaning, but the lyrics feel off to me.
she is a world treasure. for all times. for all people. a gift.
I am obsessed with how this was done. Explosively captivating! This lady is wonderful (:
Each time i come back to watch this video it still makes me cry, what an amazing performer!!
I love Bjork, wholly. When I unraveled this feeling I had to ask how I know and how it is real. Growing up with Bjork’s whispers and bursts of culminating bursts of energy, my own growth has brought her even closer to my heart, the pain is rapturing and the creation of her words is a portal for Truth. I love her for her honesty and courage, to live her life with dignity. Thank you, Bjork.
Björk is such a talented person with a beautiful mind. I have such praise for her. The way she thinks is so complex, I want to just explore inside of her head. Ugh ❤️ I love you, Björk.
I love her. :)
she is the goddess of weirdness since 1991 ....but the first queen in 1984 was Grace Jones ..
+PEPSIMAX2018 what about aurora
im not sure why is trendy since 2012 do weirdo music with kiddos ... Sia .. now Aurora .. you name it .. but legends will always prevail ... like PJ harvey ..
Björk was before her time, Sia and Aurora landed at the right one. All their music is out of this world!
this makes me wonder if we can all reach that zenith of creative freedom and articulate expression. this is why bjork remains my favourite. she has what i want. she seems to have mastered how to live. if not, she's closer to it than anyone i have ever heard of.
I remember seeing her exhibit In the MoMA. Their was a line to watch this in this exact format. It was frightening yet captaving. The sounds were if the video were roaring and just brought this raw and masterful feel to her work. For years she has been just a marvel. So glad I was able to see this masterpiece
I wish I know Icelandic to express how much I felt with this lovely new Björk's song.
The visual imagery conveys the message of the video extremely well so that it touched me deeply, and could empathize greatly with Bjork's journey.
Her 'heaviest' vid.
i agree
For sure
and song. and album
what does heavy mean? @skinny9283
Björk. I love her beyond words.
I love this, blue is my favorite color and Björk is one of my favorite people. 6:35 especially...love that stark yet beautiful horizon...the shades of blue is nice. hello Björk if you are reading this.
A goddess among us. I love you.
I wish I got to see this in person at MoMA :'(
I saw this in México and the begining it's different, it starts with the video from the black lake trailer. I cried a little in the middle of the video.
It was mind blowing.
Omg the ending in the second video is way more emotional. In tears omg
She's always this creative and amazing person who makes art with all her heart. Just discovered her recently and i'm hooked.
black lake' 10+emotional. by far one of the greatest heart felt, moveing videos ever done by her that ive ever seen too date. filmed in volcanic raw iceland...watching this is very emotional and moveing, the part when she's thumping her chest over and over again, as she 'jump starts' her shattered broken heart with the sound of 'flatline' is masterful. aged 49 in the 'black lake' video, she never fails and now she's 50 she still brings the emotion passion and raw power in her music. [björk is pure electricity!]
♥ this song helped me to heal a broken heart. thank you Bjork
A belayed happy birthday. This video hurts me to watch, but the end/beginning is so beautiful that I can feel the air you're walking in and the lack of gravity.
Bjork does it again, truly one in the moment of life & lovelight. Thank you divine conscious agent of loves message. Filled with all forms of tears with you. An alchemist of love in its truest sense. Blazing brighter than ever.
The locations for this video are as majestic as her voice.
having two Björks singing black lake for you - sometime dreams come true
AMEN BJÖRK
say yes for elder's react episode of this video
That would be fabulous
YEA
You're a Warrior, +Björk! 💖
Love yerr
Björk is perfect :)

Making something amazing even more beautiful. Love.
Truly blessed to have her music in this life of mine.
This vídeo was already very emotional to say the least. After visiting Iceland it gets even deeper. I don't know if it was indeed a spot in Iceland but it looks like the Atlantic ridge area. Anyway wherever it was made it goes way too well with the words to the point of paralysing. only able to watch and cry.
Amazing work. I watched this Björk’s video when I was 21. And somehow didn't see it anymore since that time. Now I’m 28 and watching this video with absolutely different feelings. And this is so important, that you shared how you were creating this movie. Thank you for this work.
Bjork is the best! Keep breaking the mold in 2016!
I want to see this on a giant screen!
She aged pretty well..still the same expression of joy in music..love you bjork my childhood heroin
It was so beautiful. And two screens, a revolution for music videos. You are again innovative as no human, great woman, we love you!
If you don't mind me asking, how exactly is this video, *supposed* to be played??
Occulus? or just separate projections?
+DustSeeker163 It was design to be played in a theater on a big ass screen
+DustSeeker163 At MOMA where it was originally screened, what they did was had a room with 2 projections going (bottom and top halves shown in this video). Exhibit goers were supposed to kind of walk around the room and could look at either video stream while doing so. I was there and I just kind of stood in one spot while turning around to look at the one behind me because it was quite crowded.
Thank you!
+DustSeeker163 No problem!
Another reason you're encouraged to walk around the room is the 360 sound system composed of 50+ speakers (even some in the ceiling!). You can actually listen to different sounds and layers of the song when walking across different parts of the room.
two screen version=a split heart/broken heart? takk fyrir
Beautiful way of portraying such pain.
Es increíble como aún en el 2016 sigue sacando excelentes canciones nunca oí en Bjӧrk ninguna canción de relleno, todavía me sigue impresionando, ansío escuchar el próximo albúm fijo será igual de bueno que todos sus anteriores.
Bjork is amazing and Iceland is beautiful!
YESSS !! , eruption !! we in iceland are sooo excited !!! we still got it !!! sense of relief when nature expresses herself !!! enjoy , warmthness , björk
p.s. this photo is taken where the eruption is ... we filmed "black lake" there .... 30 minutes from my house ... björk . - i am so blown away by this eruption !!! i cannot even believe that it is P R E C I S E L Y where we filmed black lake , a song of catharsis and healing , director andrew thomas huang even added an eruption !!! and here it is !! and it seems so strangely prophetic watching me tip-toeing barefoot in iris van herpen lava-dress , wounded and vulnerable searching for redemption ..... it only shows that everything heals in time , wounds get covered over , there might be scars but there is enormous capacity in nature to create new mountains and carry on ....... the valley we filmed in , geldingardalur , is slowly disappearing and being filled up with lava and perhaps has got a new name : fagrahraun . which means : "beautiful lava" .
which it is ..... !!
we icelanders are proud parents of new lava mounts and hills

Love u so much Björk! Brazil loves u! ❤
this woman is a masterpiece
This song is epic. Love the video too. I find Bjork just encaptivating.
que increíble como su Voz jamás va a envejecer ♡_♡
ya se la escuche en los 90´s y hasta el dia de hoy su voz es la que no enfadaria jamas
I think this 2 screen video by Bjork is really cool, cuz it gives you the freedom to look at any frame you want, and create your own personal version of the black lake video (tbh i look at both screens sometimes ^ ^).
Being a hardcore Bjork fan, her Vulnicara album help me through hard times and is awesome no matter what people say
Best song ending.
Perfect Björk :)
Omg I just love herrr
So heart-achingly beautiful...in every way.
Amazing as usual
BTW: this video was premiered on a two screen specially designed room at MoMA in 2015, so that's why there's two editions (Image: www.wired.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/05-The-Living-Black-Lake-Rendering-1.jpg)
Saw this in barcelona. For the bjork digital show. Simply stunning.
This song makes me cry. A lot. 😢
Every time I hear this song or watch the video and feel her pain. I just think HOW could anyone do that to her....

This is unbelievably touching and deep. Oh such deep feelings that woman can shoot out from the screen - and so sincerely...
You did it again, Björk.
When Bjork sings the world goes quiet
