  • Unions from across Nova Scotia Rally Against Bill 148 & Attacks On Collective Bargaining in Halifax on Thursday September 21st 2017.
    More than a thousand union members from across the province gathered outside Nova Scotia’s Legislature to stand up against Stephen McNeil’s unconstitutional Bill 148 attacks on fundamental and Charter-protected Collective Bargaining rights.
    Speakers during the rally included Nova Scotia Federation of Labour President Danny Cavanagh, Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) National President Mark Hancock, NUPGE National President Larry Brown, Unifor Canada National President Jerry Dias, Canadian Labour Congress Atlantic Regional Director Alex Furlong, Nova Scotia New Democratic Party (NSNDP) Leader Gary Burrill, Halifax-Dartmouth & District Labour Council President Suzanne MacNeil, Nova Scotia Government & General Employees Union (NSGEU) President Jason MacLean, UNIFOR Atlantic Regional Director Lana Payne, Nova Scotia Nurses' Union President Janet Hazelton, CUPE Nova Scotia President Nan McFadgen, Nova Scotia Teachers Union President Liette Doucet, Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) National Director for the Atlantic Region Jeff Callaghan, SEIU Local 2 Executive Member Penny Foster, Nova Scotia Paramedics Union IUOE 727 Business Agent Terry Chapman and Canadian Federation of Students-Nova Scotia Chairperson Aidan McNally. Music (including two full renditions of “Solidarity Forever”) was provided by a band composed of members of Atlantic Federation of Musicians - Local 571.
