The left one is actually a water heater.
I have a 13"dobsonian. I saw Polaris on a sunny day with light clouds blowing across it. I could see Polaris through the clouds in a dark blue sky using a polarize filter. I'll never forget the sight.
I hsve a disability that limits my strength, and I carry my 8" as one piece.
Full size Dobsonians.
I have owned two 6” f/8s, four 8” f/6s, two 10” f/4.8s and one 12” f/4.9.
Favorite is the 12”. I hung onto the nicest 8” f/6 for a grab and go and the most recent purchase is my current 6” f/8.
I like the 12” for Deep Sky, 8” for general observation and the 6” for solar with appropriate filters. 6” also does nicely on planets and is small enough that I think it will be the telescope my son gets to use as he grows. He will be seven in February, has already seen a TSE, a once in 800 years comet and the great conjunction.
10” didn’t feel necessary with the 12” in my lineup. I buy my gear used and about never lose money on the deal, it’s cool to have been able to try out so many scopes and eyepieces.
I’ll deep dive into refractors next, also have a Celestron 8” SCT.
i move the 10 inch from my room to backyard in one piece. Its not fun to move it like that but its possible and im not like a super athletic person even
recently bought an 8 " Orion Dob..... the next day I saw a 10" from a diff. company on sale but still $150. more. quickly wished I bought that, but then, 30 lbs - ten extra for the larger tube is a bit much. both very close to the same length / height - at 69+ years old, both are an issue, bending over for more than a minute is an actual issue. - I'm gonna make a 12 or even 15 in table to set the base on, leave the Dob. base out pretty much permanently I think, covered with some sort of nylon bag.
Showing the size of the scopes next to each other was informative but if you had jumped in the frame to show them in relation to a persons size would have given much better info to prospective purchasers!
or if he had shown us the difference in view. this is a horrible video.
...or if he had put them very close together, tilted them toward the camera and shown the open apertures side by side.
Thanks for sharing the vídeo. Answered exactly what I was looking for. I am willing to buy a 10 inch, and I believe I will enjoy even more to expend time to look for the objects in the sky. I also consider however, that there will be times when I would like to use the computer to confirm I found what I was looking for, so is It possible to buy one "manual" and update It later to "computorized" when I get more money to put on it?
im ready to buy a zhummel 8in 😶😶😶😶😶
Good luck. That size is pretty easy to move in two pieces and will allow you to see a lot.
Very helpful video thanks. I’m trying to decide between 10 and 8 inch and the “bear hug” you mentioned is what I’m concerned with. Do you move the 10” far to observe? I’m only thinking of using mine at home, Bortle 4, but I’ve had aperture fever before and can’t decide if the bulk of the 10” OTA or base will be an issue.
Mainly used it at home. But I did take it to Big Cypress once. Just have to make sure it doesn't get bounced around or you'll have to collimate it.
And on the left we have a 6inch.
He's from Florida didn't you hear?
@@reynal_omnicide9217 If you keep turning left, you will get to the 6 inch.
Do u think that 6 inch dobs r good budget options? I may but the skywatcher 6 inch, also what were u able to spot with the 6 inch?
Nice comparison side by side!
thanks for that thanks to you i decided.
which one
@@kakarot5760 the 10 of course.
@@warsquirt i decided 8
Which size do you recommend? Oh 10", got it. So why did you choose 10" over 8"?
Portability
I have one of those old DSE Orion dobs, specifically the 6". Terry Ostahowski figured the mirrors for those before he became renowned as one of the world's best mirror makers. It takes magnification like an absolute Monster. Routinely push it above 400x on nights of good seeing. I'll never sell that scope.
Did you sell them yet?
Yes. Except for the 10 inch.
Good explanation.
Thanks.
Fantastic explanation! Im going for a 10 inch solid tube Sky-watcher, as Orion does not trade here in Australia. I love Orion, wish they did though.
I currently have 4.5/900mm reflector on a mount.Used it quite a few times until recently, felt it does not show much at all. Im looking forward to the 10.
Thanks for the comment. I think you'll like it. I have even taken the 10 inch on a road trip before to a dark sky area. Expect to have to adjust the mirrors after you get there if you try that too.
Through the Telescope! They are the same company, different name
Once i turn 14 (which is very soon) Ill get my first job and save for the XT12G, some barlows, eyepeices, and a CCD camera.
You aren't comparing the size of Dobsonian telescopes, the Dobsonian part is just the mount.
The actual scope is a Newtonian.
Words get new usages over time. The way he’s using it is pretty common now.
Nice video, I would've kept the 6 for quick views.
Veloc ipede I kept the 10. I had a 5 inch mak Cass already. The 10 inch is able to see things the 6 inch could not.
How do you find the weight? Went to a telescope store and I lifted the 10 inch the other day to check the weight and it felt bit heavy.
No Im back to considering an 8, as the 8 felt comfortable to carry.
The optical tube weight and the total weight should be shown on the specs from any major online retailer selling them. The 10 inch is definitely on the heavy side. I need to bear hug it to move it. Optical tube only. The 8 inch is too heavy to move around with the mount, but is fairly easy to move in two pieces.
