I never got around to playing Jak X when I was a kid (mainly played the first three games), but I remember getting back into the series around 2011 and listened to the OST of X on a whim. I can never forget how badass the music is, with Ancient being one of my top favorites. This shit really gets your blood pumping to win a race and neutralize any one in your path. Playing the remastered version for the very first time and I’m loving every minute of it. 😎🔥 If only Naughty Dog could bring my boys back..
Joshua Ford No lie, I was lowkey hoping for a Jak and Daxter announcement during the PS5 event the other day. Naughty Dog is still keeping them in the dungeon.
I think this might've been the first Naughty Dog playstation game that Josh Mancell had no involvement in (Josh being the guy who did the soundtrack for pretty much all previous Naughty Dog games released on the PS1 & PS2)
I’m going through this ost because I’m making a soundtrack to go with my homebrew Mad Max-inspired dnd campaign and holy fucking shit these are some of the best songs I’ve ever heard in a game soundtrack. Every single song fucking rocks but this one in particular is just euphoric. I’ve never even played a single Jak & Daxter game but I might consider it after hearing this
I wish there was a version with more vocals. Then again, they really give you this highlight feeling, so perhaps that's a good reason to keep them limited.
after going through entire soundtrack a few times, ive noticed ancient and rev up get the most views and i think thats because they have this chill soothing vibe to them.
It's nearly 20 years later. I've heard some of the like "yeah!" vocalizations before, but not like, the constant yodeling vocalizations before, and my brain is weirded out.
Lots of nostalgia in 2020 I played i ton of this when I got a new ps2 after getting back into ps2 now I play my ps2 the most and have a bigger library of games I never even knew about. This game gave me lots of memories and know I even got my ps2 online and play games like this online :) in 2022
This video has been out for almost 10 years and there's still no confirmation to what the "Weeoohhh" guy is saying in the background at about 2:17 to 2:39 Gaming's greatest mystery indeed...
After listening multiple times, the lyrics that I hear are: Why did I, Why did I have to come for the war? You, through all of it, You wanted it all. Couldn't satisfy. When you're satisfied, Do you stop? Do you stop? Do you want more?
@@darkshimi It seems to me that there aren't enough apparent syllables in the vocals (that you've proclaimed) to be illustrated in any interpretation, if analysed methodically. With all due respect, you may have fabricated a narrative (exacerbated by audio pareidolia) to fit a pattern that you believe you've detected. As an absolute guess on my part *'Run around, (head(?)) for the (line(?))'* (2:18) (Matches with your 'Why did I have to come for the war?'. I can't make a guess with assurance at anything before this). I can certainly make out: *'You love it... So do I'* (2:23) (That I would guess coincides with your 'You through all of it, You wanted it all', how did you identify syllables of that number?). *'Sacrifice(d?)'* repeated twice (The disillusioned tone of voice substantiates this, for me); I can state in moderate confidence (2:28) (Which coincides with your 'satisfy' interpretation, which I can't comprehend how you could; 1. Hear below the threshold of the instrumental concealing the vocals to ascertain any lyric, let alone in confidence, 2. Fill the space following the first 'satisfy' and 'satsified' with that many syllables, which would be incongruent with the cadence of the preceeding vocal content. I speculate that this is an example of confabulating to fit an imagined narrative). With varying confidence I can hear *'Falling (to the ground(?))* (2:35) (I believe corresponds with your 'Do you stop? Do you stop?', how did you even hear that?). Anything after 2:37 is a bold guess on anyone's part as even with utilizing an audio stem isolating program the resulting product is an incoherent mess. I conclude with saying that it was difficult to distinguish any coherent words from this part of the audio track in good confidence.
@@computerman789 "Proclaim" is a strong word. I'm just stating what I think I hear, making it more of an opinion, me thinks. I'll admit that my brain might be trying to make sense of ambiguous sounds here, possibly influencing my interpretation, but I only tried to interpret syllables that I could hear-I didn't add any extra. Maybe we hear different things kinda like that "Laurel or Yanny" video? (I hear Laurel, btw.) It might be something like an audio illusion happening here. I'm no expert, just a fan who listened to the chorus over and over (for a stupidly long time) whilst fiddling around with an equalizer to try and make the vocals more prominent. (It didn't really clarify anything, but it did help me focus on lyrics since the instruments seem to overlap and drown out the vocals at times.) I tried listening to it with your interpretation in mind, but I still hear the same thing now that I did back then. Still, I could be wrong!

A Mad Max style D&D campaign? Like with cars and all? That sounds kickass.
The rest of the series unfortunately doesn’t have music like this, it’s more atmospheric, but still a great choice for dnd
This song transitions between 3 time signatures. 7/4 (0:00-0:41) 4/4 (0:41-1:05) and 3/4. (1:05-1:23).
The 7/4 is an actually the additive time signature 3+4/4, which helps us perceive the later 4/4 and 3/4 sections as coherent.
