I have listed to a few of these "bar etiquette/rules" that you wished patrons knew. I understand being considerate...but the reason that I go to a bar/restaurant is because either i do not want to make the food/cocktail that I have ordered or I do not have the ingredients to do so. Curious why I shouldn't order a bespoke cocktail at a higher end bar, even if busy? Isn't that what the bartender is there for? Craft cocktails...when I get the cocktail I want, it is reflected very well in my tip.
great Podcast guys! your right there are "rules" and having grown up in the LA Area in the 50's-60's my mom and dad were fastidious about the fine dining rules. Mom worked at the Ambassador Hotel across from the movie theater known as Grauman's Chinese Theater. a well known place within the Ambassador was the Coconut Grove where, once again, the Actors and Actresses of the day frequented during the week after filming!
6:53 what's even worse is the person who comes up to the bar (or, you know, cashiers desk, cinema ticket office, wherever) while in the middle of a phone call and then expects to blurt out their order to you in between chatting to their friend. Tell you what, mate - it's obviously an important call so how about you finish it first and then we'll talk about what you want to drink, eh?
Question : A lot of times in my area when i ask for a lemon twist the bartenders end up taking a lemon quarter and cutting the fruit out and just dropping it in my old fashion. how can i properly and politely teach them what a lemon twist is?
5:30 - yep I used to hate that. The "Drinks Translator" I'd call them. The guy buying the round beckons you over and only *THEN* asks all his friends what they're having (usually before they've even looked what's on offer) and then repeats each one to you immediately after the person they've asked has just said what they want - as if it was in a totally different language and the round-buyer is translating for you.

Thank you so much for this- I'm so glad someone actually voiced these to the general public ... especially the bartender's ears and memory...

old fashion gets an orange. as far as the twist part maybe the don't have the tool. if they do they're being lazy
I just wish people knew what straight up means. People always ask me for their liquor "straight up" when they mean neat.
