Space Junk, Space Walks, Space Rescues + Helmet Drowning.
There is speculation that in the near future, space junk pollution will become so extreme that we will no longer be able to safely launch rockets into orbit, land-locking mankind on Earth forever. Really? No Really!
If space junk the size of a raindrop traveling at 17,000 miles an hour can cut through a half-inch solid aluminum plate like butter, what would it do to a space walking astronaut? Jason and Peter learn the horrific answer from their guest, former NASA astronaut Garrett Reisman who had an exceptionally close call with space junk during one of his 3 space walks.
This episode of RnR also explores the pitfalls of surgery in space, the possibility that extraterrestrial life exists on Mars, what happens when other long-mission astronauts on the International Space Station leave the seat up or use your space-tooth brush… and why you need to know enough Russian to say, “Hey comrade, time to take a shower!”

@39:24 That reference was actually used by Jerry on Seinfeld, where he asked the telemarketer if he was ok with giving his phone number out…😂❣️

i have a suggestion to help with the space junk issue (create a solar powered plane as a hub between earth's atmosphere at 39000 ft to use less fuel to reach where the space junk is at and create a self contained magnet to pull the junk and burn it by the mesosphere's heat) maybe even use the Lagrange points technique...

I wish the hosts would shut up a bit and let the guest speak after they ask a question

So funny that the astronaut is a die-hard seinfeld and Jason Alexander fan, he's a freaking ATRONAUT, he has WALKED IN FRIKKIN SPACE, and "george" is his hero. LOL. I have nothing but love for Seinfeld, and would be dead struck if I met Jason Alexander, but somehow I feel that we get our priorities wrong in this culture.

Do you think Garrett had something better to do on Thursday night at 9pm during the 90s?

Peter is so interruptive. He wasn’t kidding about correcting him. Not a fan of him so far. Jason is genuine, Peter is….SHUT UP!
