Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos Live Interview at the Economic Club of Washington - Sept. 13, 2018 | CNBC
The most scary thing here is the economic and financial illiteracy in the comments.
It is very unfortunate but I suppose, it is not total surprise.
Correction~ Says a guy who owns no gaming system on his lunch break, at his own apartment.
Bezo has the biggest rich man's laugh
Jeff Bezos is acutually greater than Amazon itself. great interview, and very honest, and open about most stuff
Is he the wealthiest person in the world? Or the wealthiest person in the world whose wealth is something that can be estimated/discussed publicly?
Nikola Tesla stated that intuition was the highest form of intelligence ;)
Benjamin youngman Tesla died penniless
doesnt change the fact that he was the most genius man in recorded history. he would laugh at u for associating the quality of life lived with amont of wealth accumulated.
A lot of intelligent men do, i just think its interesting that the wealthiest man today has touched on a point that one of the most intelligent minds to ever lived also addressed. It is a shame that he struggled. Though it is more of a shame if we do not learn from him.
Ray Gunsmith how do you quantify genius?
Ray Gunsmith I laugh at the irony two men who uphold the importance of intuition and one ends up the wealthiest man in history and one ends up with nothing
Great interview, love the grass roots up bringing.
It's rare to have such humour on stage .... The interviewer is amazing... In short this whole interview is autobiography of Jeff
So many people are quick to criticize Bezos... but what I wonder is how many of the very same people shop on Amazon & have a prime membership who wouldn't give it up to shop elsewhere. I'm not hating on the guy either but rather, have a lot of admiration for him.
Hey Mark, are you saying you stopped shopping on Amazon & use eBay exclusively because he became the world's richest man? Also, Bezos' plan is to reinvest into Blue Origin so that we can become a multi planetary species, as far as he claims, which is all one can go on. The point being, we & he might not ever really know the impact of what being able to do that means, but it sure is a better plan than what most humans are doing. Same thing applies to Elon Musk. The world's richest people didn't set out to become the world's richest people, they were just lucky to end up there. That comes with a level of responsibility you or I will never have to worry about. Happy shopping on eBay tho.
Who you think you are to decide what rational purchases made by "the market" are is where I see myself out of this conversation. Bye bye Mark.
Really interesting interview, many great insights from this intelligent and thoughtful man
Amazon is seriously great.. you can tell they're very focused on the customer
As a customer Nick, does it matter to you that the richest company in the world can't even pay it's workers livable wages? That tax payers have to make up for?
Well, I've seen people talk about this everywhere. No body is providing evidence to back up their statements though. Also, every time an organization or person becomes giant there will always be talk about them. Some accurate... some inaccurate. Like Bezo said, "If its true about you change, if its not true don't let it upset you." He also said, "If you're not prepared for that type of talk from people, you're company doesn't deserve to become big."
It's totally natural for people to analyze big companies.. and they should. Bezo is providing great service. God Bless Bezo and hope he becomes richer!!
great service but for employees terrible culture
They pay them about the same as every other shipping company so.....
Great interview! Incredible what he accomplished and what his mom had to go through.
Don't pay attention to what he says, the key thing to learn if you want to be like him is how to lie out every orifice. That's the secret.
Great interview. Very helpful
What an absolute legend.
legend in a positive way or negative? This guy uses people for almost minimum wage pay and huge health problems with that people are suffering! You need to work in the warehouse breaking your back and now with lack of COVID-19 safety protocol . When you work for Amazon then tell people who great AMAZON is then!
This was awesome. Im truly inspired to keep building my own business.
I always think of myself as a smart educated person till I hear this man n Steve Jobs but it’s not just smartness. Philanthropy n caring about education n poverty. Love you !!!
I will join the economics club of Washington DC in the future years.
great interview. inspiration to many entrepreneurs
1:04:36 Interviewer: "So lets talk about your wife" Bezos: "Ehhhh Yeah.....Yeahhhh.......Yeah. What's the question? (In his head thinking about those text messages)
He's worried that the interviewer might have figured out that she was forced to divorce him because his performance metrics were so low.
absolutely great interviewer!
Best interview with bezos I have seen to date
That's soo true, and trust me I have watched a lot of his interviews.
Great info - Thanks
Thanks!
People love to compare Jeff Bezos to Elon Musk. When they do, they often point out the fact that Musk runs several companies while Bezos only runs one. That ignores the fact that Bezos successfully runs Amazon the ecommerce store, Amazon web services, Blue origin and to some extent the Washington Post. Very impressive guy!
WHAT WAS THE PARTIAL DIFFERENTIAL EQUATION JEFF
The audio is so low i have to swallow my food whole just to hear it all lol
Maytane Winner nah just your speaker are broke
A very humble yet entrepreneurial man.
at 24' -- It's not Yoshantha, it is Yasantha Rajakarunanayake who is Senior Director of Technology at MediaTek in the SF Bay Area

He's truly number one man in the universe , not only at net worth ....

Very helpful interview covering a lot of stuff
From Early days of Amazon, childhood, family, kids, life, business, Trump, Bill Gates, richest man in the world, Washington post, blue origin, whole foods and just bezos' abstract ideas about humanity and the universe.
Learned a lot
Great talk
Great video! You are awesome
26:27 who immediately Googled "Yosanta princeton" or "yosanta theoretical physicist" after listening to this story?
It's Yasantha
Dr. Yasantha Rajakarunanayake to be exact
😂😂@@AbracadabraFC
The interview is clever. He definitely keeps Bezos on his toes :)
His tie knot is huge.
In the end when he was talking about 1trillion humans in the solar system, really imagine 1,000 Einstein's lol
Great man i loved the Yosantha's story
Yep...Amazon HQ2 is going to the other Washington.
Bezos comes across as an optimist. That is great, and is an inspiration. He obviously has fun with his work.
He's optimistic that one day he will own your bollocks.
a living legend

It's almost like I'm watching a late night comedy show. With all the crowd laughs. Sorta seems like a cult.
Ur nuts
They made jokes and people laughed genius that’s not a cult
lollol....a sri lankan....,,smartest guy at princeton...!! my cousin was a prineton math grad too///lolol...
I just found this video now (oops, I am late). I was doing research about "who owns the media". We should not have a world with such enormous equality (we should all be asking "how did we get here?". It is frightening how much power a handful of individuals now have. They can (and do!) take large chunks of profits ($billions) and invest in "philanthropy". For instance, lot of powerful people have created Foundations that serve a couple of purposes. First, their "projects" allow them to hang on to, and work with a lot of money that really is unpaid tax $, and secondly, it allows them to influence some area of particular interest. We are now in a dangerous situation where unelected people are shaping our institutions, our culture and our world... because they have the money (power) to do so. That being said, I cannot help but like Jeff Bezos from this (excellent) interview. What he said about "intuition" and "heart" blew me away. He is pointing out our humanity and the importance of those qualities, and whether consciously or not, he is talking about the soul. These are things that I am discussing in a book I am currently writing, and I believe that what he said is enormously important. I am surprised and impressed by this interview. It is actually is giving me a bit of hope, that not all powerful men become changed by money and power, and start developing a god complex, reducing other people to mere objects. Maybe not every person who achieves so much power has to lose (or sell) their soul along the way. I guess we can wait and see.
Brilliant guy
Great job Jeff
31:36 lmfaooo
YES Good bay
Jeff sounds like a Californian duuude
The interviewer made this interview
volume.....hello...
Jeff Besos is great. He earned his status and his riches, he worked hard for it. He is a model for anyone willing to pursue his or her dreams.
" he worked hard for it." Of course he didn't. hE set up Amazon by bullying publishers into giving him all the info about their books and the cover images for free. He also forced them to give him rights to that info in perpetuity. Now that he's moved beyond books he gets all that info from manufacturers. And he employs people to do all the dirty work for him and he traats them like slaves.
Thks much for sharing. Having overcome a great many years of profound self-sacrifices, achieved an incredible personal breakthrough, progress in technology, wealth, power, and conventional fame to this date; however, many great men, women, and the whole world continue neglecting and unable to identify some of the greatest, most meaningful, and much more needed projects to timely rescue and heal the many internal, desperately state illnesses, wounded physical, mental, and spirits of the people throughout the world, not in space or Mars. *** What is it and when?
Best wishes always, altc, Paideia Academy & Society
I have always been skeptical of bald men
Its nice to see that Mr Bezos is a regular Human being
Every time you buy anything from Amazon or hold a prime subscription, you are literally giving money to him. (Funding his choices which includes pay for employees). All I'm saying is your money speaks louder. Bezos understands his customers and delivers. Good Business.
Yeah, it's a good business in the sense that most of the customer's money goes to him and his stockholders, not really his employees.
That is why you start a business. And to answer your question, who took the risk in the business?
What's individually rational(shopping on Amazon) is collectively disastrous.
Alan - It’s his business, therefore he runs it as he sees fit.
Jeff should run for president seems like a man that would get stuff done
whats the point for a credit card for him lmao
This isn't Howie Mandell?
bezos sometime sounds like that radical turtle from finding nemo LOL
Why is David Rubenstein not in the picture?
He might chosen, oh my gosh 😮
10:25 How can he cut off a billionare like David Rubenstein just like that?
Because compared to Jeff, he's irrelevant.
you are so rich(yet divorcing) you lost. not because of anything. The labor is basically like Slavery.
"My dad is my real dad, not my biological dad" - Nice :D
We're so blessed to have people like Jeff, bill and elon alive, such inspiration!
world's oldest man. loved it !!!!!!
Even though the gold price increased in 2018, the top gold miners production declined while costs continue to escalate. Output at three of the top gold miners in the world fell in the first half of 2018 compared to the same period last year.
That means that theirs less gold to mine aye ahhhh gotta hord it all
His best customers are the shareholders
Jeff 💝
Amazing business wisdom in here ... Thanks!
56:54 - I knew he is an alien.... He grew up in Mars..... or has spent some time there!!
Imagine Jeff Bezos running for president

I absolutely love the insights of Jeff Bezos.... truly one of my heroes and AMAZING HUMAN!
TRAVIS I BELIEVE YOU CAN BECOME A BILLIONAIRE. AND IF THATS YOUR AIM YOU WILL. I BELIEVE IN YOU. Ignore that peon. Keep thriving..
Jesus, do you even know that most people working at Amazon are paid minimum wage and pee in bottles just to do crazy targets? His wealth is built on modern slavery.
If they have the freedom to leave and find other jobs, then they are not slaves.
The thing is. They are paid so little because of replacibility in economy. On such a large scale, just a little increase would slow down amazon and make the service way worse for millions. I get what you mean, but we have to take that into account :)
I was astonished by Travis Huff s comment. Most employers offer decent working conditions, while the richest man in the world cannot afford to do it. How is Bezos a hero and an amazing human?
❤
I wish the interviewer ask him ,if Mr.. Bezos prepared the company in case of tragic event happens to him,who will continue his legacy
