Great information but due to the shear amount it would be immensely effective to have some form of narration being done. Any kind of sound, the info is great and becomes daunting without catering to other senses other than sight.
i stopped at 2 minutes...the video ends 8 minutes..thought i was going to learn something here, but wait..all is not lost those 2d pics are something to ponder over..best part
Best one for making a knife would be martensitic stainless steel, because of its hardened martensitic crystal structure. Its very hard, not ductile, so tour knife will stay sharp for longer.
I’m curious.. where does 7Cr17mov fall on this? I know its Chinese based but I wonder what it’s comparative to and if it’s good Steel for kitchen knives and pocket knives
We need Spring Wire Size: Φ 1.00±0.01 mm Properties of Material : a) Mechanical: Ultimate Tensile Strength (UTS): 180~200 Kg/mm2 Twisting No.: 20~30 Time b) Chemical: Carbon= 0.08%~0.10%, Silicon: 0.44%~0.50%, Manganese: 1.20%~1.25%, Chromium: 15% (Min), Nickel: 9% (Min), Phosphorous: 0.025% (Max), Sulfur: 0.003% (Max)
D2 is not technically a stainless, though it may (if my memory serves me), have small amounts of chromium. Recall that a stainless steel constitutes at least 10.5% chromium by weight. D2 is a tool steel.
I have machined all these steels. duplex f51 is difficult to chip. all soft compared to the inconel range... now we're talking. 718.....625... mega steels.
I suppose you are not intending to cover all grades but not including 310 / H7 is a bit of a mystery. It is the highest alloyed grade with around 25% Cr and 20% Ni.
Such a great animation! Expensive. Narration really required for a topic like this. From a Training development POV, what are the end products made? What is a Henkle knife vs a turbo jet fan blade? Explain like the audience is a third grader. Basic language, simple analogies and the like. If it was my gig, I would make five shorter videos.
Which is most durable and superior in strength and non degradable in other words look the same thousands of years from now and not affected from any elements? Let’s add some diamonds!
200 grades are less strong and corrosion resistant than 300 grades. What are you trying to do with it? That's the important thing. There's a perfect steel that matches what you're trying to do. It's not always as cut and dry as "What's the best quality?" Depends on what you're trying to do with it!
Please add narration, I did not watch because it is so much easier to learn this stuff when you can listen to someone, hear how they say it, and there are many other videos, which I will now go find, sorry.
You are asking for competing qualities lol. If it holds an edge longer, that makes it harder to sharpen. If you want it to hold an edge longer, it won't be able to be sharpened as sharp. If you want it to be corrosion resistant, you will have to reduce the ability to get any of the above qualities. For somewhat of an actual answer, Leatherman uses 420, 440, and sometimes 154cm in their blades, and I have never had any complaints.
I started hoping for sound but quickly realised it was not necessary! wicked!
good work on clear laying out of the different SS grades with loadful of important informations even students can understand...very helpful.

I just played some techno music in the back haha
i stopped at 2 minutes...the video ends 8 minutes..thought i was going to learn something here, but wait..all is not lost those 2d pics are something to ponder over..best part
I know, right! let's get some music up in here!
Would love to have a wall poster of this. Fantastic for my workshop and conversation starter.
One of the best videos on RUclips.
Maybe one of the best stuff on the internet.
Thanks for posting this video. Im filling out permits and was trying to figure out the difference between the 316Ti and Type 430!
wooo! What a difference between those two! my lord. If only 316Ti could cost the same as 430, the world would be a vastly different place.

This is the very clear idia to metallurgical students,
Thanking You,
this is a good video, now i know more about ss 👍,thanks for your teaching
How to know to if an alloy is "food grade" and/or fire resistant? Thanks
How we can identify it can u plz give one video on spark testing of stainless steel
Best one for making a knife would be martensitic stainless steel, because of its hardened martensitic crystal structure. Its very hard, not ductile, so tour knife will stay sharp for longer.
I would love to be able to hear this, reading it on my phone is almost impossible and my eyes aren't that good anymore
Great information. Thank you for sharing 👌👏👏🙂.
Fantastic overview of the confusing (to the newbie) array of stainless steels that are available.
We have been become well-informed.
A downloadable PDF of the whole chart would be nice.
Really, very helpful video. I wish if I could get this in PDF format for the ease of searching
very nice video explanation on stainless steel
Very informative... Thanks for sharing these...
Better Explained, very good.
I’m curious.. where does 7Cr17mov fall on this? I know its Chinese based but I wonder what it’s comparative to and if it’s good Steel for kitchen knives and pocket knives
Highly informative .
Brilliant, just what i needed. Thanks
Nice video, I only know (and work with) 304, it's good to know there are some other types of stainless
What's the best stainless for electrolysis? And how can I tell on random screws, bolts laying around my home?
Is the 420 steel a good metal for a knife?
so whats the best one to make knives out of? the one that will keep a sharp edge longest and easy to sharpen
316L is harder than 904L
@@toocoolforu I thought 904 was harder?
Which grade steel is used in loudspeaker magnet structures? Can we use galvanised low carbon mild steel or ferritic stainless steel?
Should have shown this(7:55) at the beginning of video.
Great video!
Which grade will be used for Tesla's Cybertruck?
This is just class and brilliant!!!
I'm interested in 15-5 PH SS. Relevant time points:

Very nice overview!
A slight nightmare of choice. I just want max anti-corrosion crossed with tank strength. Simples.
What's this sound track called?
What the specifications for 1.4116 stainless steel?
430-grade stainless steel: for brackets in a BBQ will it be ok
Superb
We need Spring Wire
Size: Φ 1.00±0.01 mm
Properties of Material :
a) Mechanical: Ultimate Tensile Strength (UTS): 180~200 Kg/mm2
Twisting No.: 20~30 Time
b) Chemical: Carbon= 0.08%~0.10%, Silicon: 0.44%~0.50%,
Manganese: 1.20%~1.25%, Chromium: 15% (Min), Nickel: 9% (Min),
Phosphorous: 0.025% (Max), Sulfur: 0.003% (Max)
amazing video. thank you.
Thanks. That was excellent
Where does Inconel place at?
So Molybdenum also slightly increases corrosion resistance?
Very much increases. It's sea resistant so boats should be made of this stuff.
Where does D2 come in here? I have a K-Bar of D2 and am looking how to best sharpen it and maintain it, etc.
D2 is not technically a stainless, though it may (if my memory serves me), have small amounts of chromium. Recall that a stainless steel constitutes at least 10.5% chromium by weight. D2 is a tool steel.
D2 is not stainless.
Amazing job, thanx
I have machined all these steels. duplex f51 is difficult to chip. all soft compared to the inconel range... now we're talking. 718.....625... mega steels.
Make video on titanium grades pls

Excellent video
I guess the best stainless-steel would be the duplex but probably very expenive
Good graphics, would be useful in printed form for trainee engineers.

extremely informative
this is very good video.

useful information
So, I think I want all appliances, my kitchen sink, my grill, my grill utensils, and my cutlery made out of 904L?
OMG! I thought there were two types, 304 and 316. Talk about Dunning-Kruger....
There will be a quiz at the end of the presentation
what about 13-8?
I am not able to find SS 302 grade
thanks! great vid
Excelent video
Thank you 🙏
u are the captain sir
Being there is no sound, a poster is all the video is good for.
still no audio !!!
great, relative ideas for scholar to decrease the effective work to decrease the carbon content.
A240?
what about 204?

304L is for Starship!
Good
commonly used SS304
Where is Inconel?
Ken Knerr inconel isn’t stainless steel
wonderful
Sir I watch video steel grades but plz explain me ' iron grades' minz low aron..-En. - En 8 - En 31....wsp...explain perfect chart low to high...
Thank you Sir
I love steel
So great!
thanks
301...... the *BEST*
Rich with info but a video is not the best media for such details
Where is 202
THANK U SIR
Add music will be better
got it !!!
No sound??
Good information. Shit production quality.
Why no narrator? Seriously WTF?
Please add narration, I did not watch because it is so much easier to learn this stuff when you can listen to someone, hear how they say it, and there are many other videos, which I will now go find, sorry.
No audio knuckleheads... I can't chew bubblegum and learn at the same time.
hi
No voice…. Not good
Lack of audio sucks!
Yes, yes… autistic stainless steel. My favourite kind
