I reckon Blight should’ve sent Yates down to the pocket with Brereton after that hit. Dermie was still influential, kicking a couple of goals. Tough bastard. Having Yates standing him would’ve taken him right out of the game.
Still think Blight cost the Cats the Grand Final that day. He started Couch and Bairstow on the bench and they got smashed in the first qtr. Pritchard and Anderson were the difference and neither seemed to get tagged at all (as distinct from Couch, Bairstow and Hocking who got smashed everytime they went near the ball). Extraordinary individual efforts kept the Cats in it by Ablett, Flannigan and Lindner. Surprised Scott Maguiness getting poleaxed by the goalpost isn't in this show.
Couch and Bairstow were on the bench in the semi - NOT the Grand Final Not tagging Anderson was an error. He kicked 4 uncontested goals. Bucky also had it too easy
Dipper, Platten ( concussion came off early ) , Brereton , Gary Ayres and to a lesser extent Tuck had all very serious injuries in this game and was the only reason why Geelong made a late charge ...otherwise it should of been quite an easy victory for the Hawks
No he didn't. He kicked a goal which is better than rushing his kick and missing. He had to kick the goal first and most of all otherwise they'd have zero chance. Besides, to single out one player is pretty silly. Takes a whole team to win or lose. Not just one player.
It was pointless because he took so long it became impossible to score again. If he’d kicked a point anyway it wouldn’t have mattered because he took too long. Better to go quick take a gamble. If he’d kicked quick and got a goal, they had a chance. Kicked a point, they’d still lose anyway but at least have had a chance. He took so long, it ended the chance of scoring again which made the goal pointless in the end anyway
