Dipper is a national treasure.
… and a living legend of the AFL and Australian pop culture also.
Jeez I love Dipper, what a bloody legendary character
I'm a Queenslander and a Rugby League person, but we know about this Dipper guy. Very few footballers of any era had his toughness. AFL in those days was brutal. The thing about Australian Football is that your in a 360 degree impact environment. In Rugby League the collision is mostly frontal. AFL requires more peripheral vision, more aerobic fitness. Pure strength and power goes to the Rugby League guys.
I put it to people that both forms of rugby, soccer, US football... all take the form of two armies directly facing each other - but with Australian Rules, it's more like guerilla warfare where danger lies everywhere.
That's an insightful way of thinking and pretty spot on. @ianb4801
Wow! That was absolutely fantastic. You're an absolute legend, Dipper. You've given so much to this great game of ours. Thank you.
Dipper the game needs him back in the media limelight, a legend in both his and the public minds, what a champion man.
Still remember Dippers speech the night he won the Brownlow, when he said that he only went for the free beer.
Wrong
This game had everything.
8:24 “Tucky went on to play 5000 games”
Dipper needs his own show, or at least be a regular on The Sunday Footy Show. What a legend!
100% agree. need to see more of him
What a bloody funny guy, he wouldn't be out of place here in any pub in Scotland. Great video, loved it.
@Kani Fuker You may know 'Dipper' is one of many AFL players down the years from an Italian migrant family background. DiPierdomenico (sp?). The AFL has selected players for "The Italian Team of the (20th) Century". You will hear names like Silvagni, Ricciuto, Caracella, Dal Santo, Deledio, Favola. And in the current crop - Coniglio.
What a shame he isn’t involved in the game day coverage anymore. What a character 😊
Hawthorn were certainly a great team back in the day but Dipper and Dermie were (and still are) legends in their own rights.
What a game that 89 GF was, the absolute pinnacle of our once great game 🥰, not sure what game they play these days, but its not a patch on the 89 GF, 😔
Dead-set Legend of the game and one of the greatest single games of footy ever played. I remember it well. X
Dipper is a legend should be continuing his media career
When you get hit by Ablett you stay hit, ouch!
Dipper another Hawk champ....Go Hawkers.
Dippa , what a legend
How good. Smiling away.
Looking sharp Dipper!
So humble! Hilarious!
Definitely a larger than life character.
Hawks were gr8 , but Ablett was just sensational.
If only they had played Ablett at Full Forward from day one!
Legend!
Great man..
I rally hope 9 get the footy again
Dipper should host the show.
bloody legend i reckon
You were a sniper too Lloyd😂
Legend. Tough as friggen nails.Good kick to.Onya dip .
Not many fellas can wring 2 knecks at once.
Shame to see where the hawks are now
He loves too talk doesn’t he Dipper. 😂
On the 7th day I rose 🤣
As a 6 yr old Bomber fan in 1984, i'll never forget when Dipper clipped Kevin Walsh's chin in the GF
*Kevin Walsh
@@carlmarks8170 thx for the correction
I remember it well when “Spit Fire” Kevin got knocked out, sitting behind the city end goals.
@@darrenmaclean6892 awesome
Die Dipper go straight to hospital and not be part of the after match presentation?
Haha Dipper is a champ
Now players cry on the field
And now players cry because someone says a mean word about their mother. 😶
You're not wrong.
I bet you cry that your state doesnt have a team. Waaaaaaaaaaa
I am an ex player and we just ignored the comments from the public player’s today are too pretentious
Yep. I can't even watch AFL any more. It's like girls with handbags.
@@robdowsing3361you played 20 games pilbo
Sign him up for next year
when Footy was the real deal.... not the nonsense it is today.
Such a shame these days on how soft players have become.. Can’t cope a spray or sledge otherwise they’ll sook it away..
Like that petty bloke crying on the field hahah
Sorry Dipper but Jesus only took 3 days to rise, you took 7 you slacker! :D
Yeah but Jesus never won a flag nor a Brownlow.
@@wizzard5442 Haha, very true
@@wizzard5442 Very true, Dipper definitely shaded the Lord on both counts lol
Oooh I'm commenting just to be first 🥇
It's never the first real comment when someone says "oooh first"
For me the greatest GF I have ever seen.
Really they were thugs in those days.I know cos I am 76yo and played a handful of games and I cant tell you what injuries I suffer from today cos of men that are called tough but really just whacked you😂
I loved Dipper but I hated the Hawks. I'm glad they beat Geelong that day bcos I hated them more especially "God". What an arsehole! Buddha was another one & I was so happy to see him knocked out by Dipper.
Really..G Ablett was a legend, same with G Hocking
@@russelldavies1423 I never really watched Geelong in those days. They never really won as much as they'd like to tout.
Hocking didn't get knocked out, Dipper cut him badly but didn't knock him out, love him or loathe him, Gary was tough as nails.
@harryricochet8134 I didn't, he was a thug, a great player, no doubt about it but a thug nonetheless.
@@RexAlfieLee You didn't what? You claimed Hocking was knocked out by Dipper in the '89 GF, which never happened. Cheers.
50 players played in 15 years ? Geez great player but talks a lot of manure.
