Be careful with this. Good practise is to NOT do all that at once. A lot of people crash their cycle by doing this as you take out all the bacteria needed for the nitrogen cycle!
I was just about to say! The best way to do it for me is clean filters/algae a few days before doing a water change (ESPECIALLY if your changing more than 50%)
Yeah- had fishes for 17 years, very healthy. We clean out our tank once or twice every year (which sounds bad but- cleaning it more never affected the fishes’ health, instead it just made them more stressed). We would clean the algae then do water change but wait to clean the filter after some days. But after the water change, we make sure to add ph balance and some medicine. They’ve had issues of biting each other because we forgot to nobody kept track of feeling them (because we were little kids), but that was the only health issue they ever had.
He just unclogged the filters in water from the tank, no bacteria killed that way. Also, the bacteria are on the surfaces in the tank and filter, so the water change is irrelevant, I don't think you know what you're talking about.
@Dave-Rough-Diamond-Dunn not sure which video you watched. He didn't say he used the water from the tank and he also cleaned the surface of the tank where the bacteria is. I didn't mention about a water change. So you definitely don't know what you're talking about.
That's why I run two sponge filters per tank and alternate cleaning them. Also, use a plastic bag to wrap the sponge before removing it and there will be less mess.
I usually drain the water first, Then using a brush I clean the algae on the glass( above water level) as that way it no longer goes in the water, just keep cleaning the brush if it gets too much algae on it by dipping it in the drained water. Last thing I do is clean the filters with the drained water in a bucket, sponge filters won't clean the algae mixed turbid water so quick hence relying on them during tank cleaning has negligible benefits.. Happy Fish keeping ! Keep up the great work you're doing 😊
You ROCK DUDE!!! I haven't wanted a fish since I was in 5th grade and I had to get rid of him when he passed away. Now I want one as an older adult and I want some just like yours!!! 🐠
@@simplyvideos15Try not to overstock in the first place, but if you must, either increase the volume changed to 50-75%, or increase the frequency of your water changes.
Clean the sponges with the same water from the tank and keep it inside that water until you put them back in the tank so your loss of the colony will be less.
I only ever had smaller tanks with one or two fish. I would scoop out my fish, dump the water, clean everything, fill up the tank and put them back. It’s hard to clean the glass when the tank is full if you don’t have a scrubber thing
You clean the filter in the water new because it’s healthy for the fish and their lil ecosystem. “Don’t follow what everyone says because I’m a master” says the one who ignores everything he was ever told
Dont do all of these things in the same day Youre gonna bottom out your tank's N03 and Po4 which are necessarry for the tanks health and can cause its own set of issues. When you change your water do 30%, not 90% of the water like this guy. This is a guide for really messed up tanks.
Theirs a level of algae you should maintain because the fish are used to it and removing it completely along with improper temperature can shock and kill the fish
Would it be easier to take some of the old water out of the tank relocate the fish temporarily completely clean and refill the tank with the same temperature water and put the fish beck in?
It's the same logic as dont sweep the floors until you've dusted and wiped down the counters. There's no sense in sweeping twice to catch the mess you made from the other tasks.
Take the fish out in a clean water bucket>flush out water of aquarium> clean everything> fill clean water in aquarium> arrange materials> put the fishes back. Done!
I enjoyed my fish tank till like many, I got tired of the upkeep and shut the system down. My fish was taken to the ocean and is now 65 feet long and stalking tourists in the tropics.
Hopefully that bucket was tank water to not kill the beneficial bacteria and that appeared to be too large a water change, with a well established tank, only a 30-50% water change is needed, higher volume water changes aren't necessary unless the parameters or fish indicate as such 🤔
Actually its best to do the water change second. 1. clean glass 2.water change 3. filters. After cleaning the glass you will have a lot of algae/debris floating around. when you do your waterchange you will typically siphon the sand bed further adding debris to your water. During this time you want your filters to be working and you should wait until your water clears up before cleaning them.
Have two filters, or two sets of medium in the filter and clean only one a week, if that often! Filters are where the beneficial bacteria do most of their work, and you need to keep it at stable levels to get their benefit. Understock, and reap the rewards
The fish is like me during an economic downturn and older fish tells me that it is going to be fine. Yes, order matters. I don’t want dirty water after the change😂
Don’t wait till the glass too dirty then clean it, it’s gonna affect on the fish health, the fish gonna breath in all that filthy particles, they may have chance having gills infection and skin infection. Glass needs to be clean weekly and same as the filter.
I learned Back in the day you don’t do all that at the same time unless you want to kill your fish may be doing water changes every day that would work but if you’re trying that in an established tank, it won’t work out for you and probably won’t matter much for your set up if you’re gonna do all that the same time in an established tank might as well use soap too?
Use old bread bags scrunch it up, and take it under water to the filter. Slowly pickup the filter and set it on the bag. Lift it over the filter and pinch the opening closed. When you lift the bag w/ the filter all the waste in the sponge will be in the bag & not back into the tank!
Seems stressful for the fish. For me I cut a bottle in half, put a polyester sheet in it and then leave it over the intake of my filter for a day. It never fails
You need some of that in the filters any way never do all three at same time your nitrate levels will go through the roof and you will have to change the water a lot more regularly and possibly dead fish.

I'm laughing like why does this need to be explained? You just need to do it in the wrong order once and you know you done it wrong 🤣🤣🤣
I have no clue what bro was saying but that wiping is hella satisfying
Keep dr fish they will not let the aquarium get dirty but you have to keep at least 40 psi in one aquarium
