Worldbuilding is a cerebral exercise so we’re trying out a new editing style. Less audio waveforms and quick edits, and more chill artwork and vibes. Was this the right call?
Before you answer, don’t forget to subscribe to the secondary channel we’ll be building our world upon.
🔸ruclips.net/channel/UCJ4J_ClDpEKREfMIgnvU1rg
Absolutely. The music and vibe were perfect. You're channel inspired me to start my own. The Fan Foundation hopes to analyse alternate worlds and redesign or suggest changes to make these universes better. Thank you for all your work, and I can't wait to see how your new channel goes.
Here before 3rd
Eh I like the old style more. Not a big fan of when videos quietly come to an end.
Your channel's 3days old... maybe ya could accidentally make ALL the private videos go public some time after noon Thursday, so I can SpeedWatch them.?.
I totally dig it
I distinctly remember one of my creative writing professors saying the line :
“the world doesn’t matter. The setting only matters when it affects your characters. Remember: relevant details only.”
This was the same man who said: “ don’t write fantasy. Just set it in our world. More marketable and less work.”
That sounds like heresy to me
-Sci-fi worldbuilding goon (Me)
Good advice for writing stories obviously not applicable when the world building is the point.
That's gonna be a hard disagree with your prof from me 😂 I mean his first point makes sense, but also the reason the story happens the way it does is because of the world around you, i.e. can't have a story plot where you cross a treacherous mountain pass without there being a mountain range
For some reason I read the second quote in J Jonah Jameson's voice
Mandatory euthanasia for the professor
Can I just say that all the art in this video was absolutely stunning. Props to all the artists involved!
Yes! All the pieces were so beautiful!
really excited about this new series. Honestly, it is an appropriate next step for you guys given your skills and talents
Man, it's going to be wild when my kids grow up watching "movie that takes place in Templin Institute universe" when back in the day I watched the universe being developed. So excited for this!
I'm worldbuilding a setting for my D&D group and planning on using it for a book, so I'm very excited to see what you have to teach!
I would love to see you guys do a Modern Constructed World. It's basically a world that is not Earth but has a technological level roughly comparable to 20th or 21th century technology. Usually, but not always, with minimal or non existent magic. Examples include, Strangereal from the Ace Combat series, Europa from Valkyria Chronicles, the world in Attack on Titan , the one in Violet Evergarden, etc. If not for this project, then a future one.
This is actually something I’m quite interested in. Especially if there is something on interstellar conflict. How do space fleets work in combat, and how you can show if a faction is more powerful than another
That really depends how fast a faction can bounce back to its former strength
@@1650th well if you look at Halo and the UNSC following the human-covenant war the UNSC really were able to bounce back quite fast
@@reeceemms1643 the best way to compare functions is to look back at history and ask certain questions after the conflict are the leaders still in power is the nation stable after the conflict what was the man power lost during the conflict how has industry shifted from a wartime economy which social class was effected by the war etc
@@1650th haven’t thought that far yet. Considering that this one Sci-fi story I have is set mid during the war, though I didn’t list the current state of the war like who is winning. I like to believe that the point of the story the two factions are in a tactical stalemate, which isn’t the first I have had two factions like that. Basically what I mean is there are fights and battles, though they are more like skirmishes. But neither is getting a real tactical victory, until the end of the script where the good guys win a tactical victory.
@@reeceemms1643 what type of battlefield is it land or space based

The Templin Institute has been a huge inspiration for me, and certainly for many, many others. Whenever y'all put out new videos and projects-be they Stellaris Invicta, reimagined videos, or simple alternate world investigations-I get such a rush of inspiration for worldbuilding and writing. Y'all over in the Templin Institute make worldbuilding so engaging and beautifully written and presented.
We love you guys. ❤
This has the potential to be one of the defining features of the Templin Institute! I can't wait to see where this goes, can't wait for tomorrow!
I'm actually in a fiction writing class at my college and have been a big fan of other channels like "Hello Future Me" who review the worldbuilding and storytelling of others, so having the Templin institute give their take sounds like a lot of fun. Already subscribed to the new channel, can't wait.
A facinating idea! Interstellar invasion and navy building are my favourite videos on your channel. Really glad you are taking this seriously.
Yeay please flesh out more of the GTU and Antares stuff, i don't care if it makes sense in stellaris logic but maybe do a battle group composition video on them and like stories of battles in particular planets were like
i've been looking for something like this in worldbuilding for so long. there's so few things like this online i'm so hyped for this thank you thank you thank you. i hope this will help me write some more.
Even if it does turn out bad learn from your mistakes and improve it I have my own world and I'm still improving apon it
what is channel name?@@WelcomeToDERPLAND
A full week of worldbuilding content, I’m hyped. I’ve started my own worldbuilding project just a few days ago, so creating mine alongside yours should be fun.
Knowing what's come from the fandom before, my guess is already going to be that the military sci-fi space opera wins, and that's not just because I want it to. My guess is that people are automatically going to assume the historical low fantasy setting and the post-apocalyptic setting are going to either be boring or be rip-offs of some other setting, but military sci-fi is going to be original and really interesting, even though it's about as common as the other two
Yea it's difficult to write space opera without riffing Star Wars or Halo
@@spiritvdc5109 What about Legend of Galactic Heroes?
I really hope we get the first cause the Holy Solar Empire was my favorite SI2 option and as much I love Antares im a little disappointed it didn't win. To Valhalsium my brothers!
Also, I get the sense that's what Mark and the Templin institute is generally more interested in. All the detail that goes into their fleet building series or discussions about tank warfare and doctrine, the reimagined Halo and Star Wars videos that were generally more military focused, the GTU and Antares Confederacy videos, even the nitpicky video about Halo and it's funny poem about hazard lines, and Mark just strikes me as someone that prefers the more grounded and militarized side of space operas.
@@chaosfire321 reminder thought that the holy solar empire was the only og stellaris suggestion to be brought back for the season 2 vote. I think Mark really likes that idea
To paraphrase from another amazing world building project:
The coming voyage is born from desperation and common suffering. But, it also born from unity and companionship. Corporate greed have held our fandoms in their grip for a long time and it’s influence has inspired much negativity and toxicity. But now that greed has brought us together. And now, through our common effort we have the means to escape the confines of our fandoms and create new worlds!
You guys are doing something really spectacular here. I could only dream of working on something like this, to the point where watching your stuff makes my heart hurt. I'm glad to see the Institute is able to expand to their own world, I'm sure it'll be great.
first of all, those were extremly awesome concept arts, i mean a medival usa besigend a castle whichs keeps is an old skyscraper? awesome!
i cant wait for the series with all three videos "per episode".
really nice and cool seeing this channel work up to this stage. big congratulations to you, i am excited for all that comes. i wish you all the fun creating that i already have with watching them!
Is this tears in my eyes i feel?, the joy that ive been feeling and waiting for this day for so long, this will be one of the things il take with so much warmth into my heart, ive joined this community a handful of years ago, i'l never forget it.
This is a moment of growth not only for the institute but for the community as well, may the power of knowledge be the guiding hand of this institute!
I have great confidence you guys are gonna pull it off! Congrats on everything you've achieved to this day. Keep up the good work and thank you for everything ❤
Worldbuilding is something Ive always loved doing, but its always been kinda aimless, with me only adding something when I realize there is missing details or explanations, This video series is gonna be so helpful in building more complete worlds from the start of a story instead of adding to it throughout.
This is the Way
Knowing the creative work that you've produced over many years, from ye olde mods to all of the Templin Institute's excellent videos, I'm definitely excited to see more of your creative process in a more open form.
Y'all should be proud of what you've accomplished.
As a worldbuilder myself I look forward to seeing the tips and tricks you have, it's so easy to get yourself lost in a world you've built
It has indeed been impressive watching the various developments made over the years and it is pleasant to witness the final planning for this project to be put into motion. I much look forward to seeing world (or worlds) that shall uniquely be created.
Also, I noticed on the new secondary channel it says, "In partnership with Weland-Yutani".
Quite curious.
the tagline of Weland-Yutani is "Building better worlds"
@@flandermander4952, what a cool reference!
I'm so excited for this. Its a great next step for the templin Institute. So much work and progress... You Can be proud. Thank you for the journeys and godspeed comrades !
I've watched worldbuilding projects rise and fall several times. My biggest piece of advice: don't let the 'muh realism' line of thinking consume it. If you do, you'll inevitably lead to creating soil acidity charts (iykyk) instead of actually writing interesting lore.
Just remember, even real history falls apart under the 'muh realism' scrutiny. A homeless kid that ate rats founded the largest land empire in human history. The bloodiest civil war in human history was caused by a dude who thought he was the younger brother of Jesus. Put simply, if you're really caught up over whether a tiny detail could be considered "believable," you're probably reading too much into your own lore. Good luck, I can't wait to see what you guys create!
You guys haven't popped up into my feed in a while. I am BEYOND excited about this project. This is everything I've been wanting from you guys since the last Stellaris Invicta.
We'll do our best to not let you down!
I can't wait to see how this series turns out! Getting to learn about the different facets of worldbuilding while building a world with the community is criminally underrated online. The only other channel I can think of that did was...The Worldbuilding Corner I believe?
Either way, I'm already antsy for the first look at the new channel!
I've been waiting for this series since the first community post. So excited to go on this journey.
I can't wait for this, I always thought the best videos of the Institute were the ones not focused on a single IP but those more about worldbuilding in general so this is gonna be good!
I want to see the Templin Institute creating a military sci-fi Space Opera in the style of the Greater Terran Union and the Antares Confederacy.
this is really exciting, I'm looking forward to watching them and build more ideas for my stories I'm currently making. Both being a fantasy world with slight isekei but with memory loss and travel to other worlds. Another is a science fantasy with a handful of races and an ancient threat thought to be a myth
I can’t wait to see this new world! I’ve been waiting for something like this, I loved the reimagining new republic and I can’t wait to get more deep lore, and hopefully I get to find something new I can shout besides “For the republic!”
try "In the emperor's name!"
"Commissioning art" This alone would get me to sub to the Patreon... if I wasn't already! Looking forward to where this project goes
This series will be glorious. Good luck and best wishes guys!
As someone who is passionate about worldbuilding above all else, I'm really excited to see you guys tackle a project like this!
So cool! 😎 Much love 🥰 Exciting times!! 🙌
Your channel has slowly but steadily one of my favorite ones! This new adventure of yours sounds incredibly interesting and consider me hooked!
(-Stellaris Invicta was amazing!
- I am kind of surprised how little space you have given to the Expanse, but probably it's my bias that is talking)
As a Linguist and overall anthropologist, please please please look into some cursory things from both linguistics and cultural Anthropology to aid with cultures and nations. They have helped me immensely and offer so many interesting points for plot and characters!
Honestly, I’ve been struggling getting started with my own worldbuilding for a while, hope this series helps me! It’ll be a fantastic watch anyway!
Just leaving this here so that the I can not just tell my Grandchildren I was here but prove it too.
I aint dumb.
Been here since forever and it's been a great ride, looking forward to next video.
Looking forward to the new project
HYPED!!!! I am just getting into writing and this is where i am stuggling so i am super happy to see this.
All this here as why The Templin Institute is one of my favorite channels!
I’m so excited for military sci-fi opera 🤩
Very cool 😎! Cannot wait to see what else you have in store for us! Keep up the great content! 💯
WRITE THAT DOWN!
WRITE THAT DOWN!
-Me to myself as I “take inspiration” from this video
Good luck on the project. We’ll be watching with great interest.
I like the alien isolation sound affects at the beginning, nice touch.
We as a comunity know how skilled you are, so the bet is that the projects will turn out great.
As a worldbuilder, my only say is that no matter what happens, even if and when it will become a huge mess, you shouldn't give up trying
(Not that you didn't know that already)
Templin institute, good luck and godspeed for building your own universe.
I've been following a few world builders due to my own interest that I have had since I was five. Looking forward to this.
You have my applause! Go on, looking forward for it!
Been following the Templin Institute for a long time and you've inspired several of my worldbuilding projects and plot ideas. Definitely looking forward to a wonderful series. Personally, I want the "Post Apocalyptic Science Fantasy"
Yes!! Sold! We are here for it!
This brings a tear to my eye... Thx for all your hard work!
Old Templin canon got pretty convoluted and weird, a lot of it just didn't connect. I think the new, post-buyout Templin Institute canon is more coherent and as cool as the old one, even cooler in some ways!
In my free time I'm working on alt history, very surface level stuff but I'm exited for your expertise advice and I hope this series does really well, cant wait to see what your genies minds and these amazing artis achieve
Fantastic! Been waiting for an update on this project so I am super happy to see it taking shape.
Honestly looking forward to seeing how this all turns out and I think it's really cool to be here just as it's getting started. Lead on, Imperious Leader!
I'm hoping for the fantasy series. Don't get me wrong, I love military sci-fi, but you've already got A LOT of that content.
As a proud Examplelander, I thank you for speaking of our nation, if only briefly, Glory to Kind Phil D. Blank, 265th of his name
Super excited for this, looking forward to the Start!
I've got a lot of notes about each of my ideas, but these are the basics.
Post-Apocalyptic Science Fantasy - We spot a giant rock coming right for us in space. We do the human thing and send up nukes, but it turns out it was a ship like that big one from the expanse. It was just covered in interstellar debris from its long trip and looked like a rock. It twists apart and turns into a cloud of crap that pummels the earth for centuries as it slowly deorbits. So alien colony tech and biology amidst the ruins of Earth. So, there are lots of mutations, destruction, advanced human and alien tech, the works.
Historical Low Fantasy - I actually have a plan for a world history that starts in the Stone Age and progresses into a future era. Magic is primal and untamed, but as civilization progresses, it becomes refined before falling off in the face of advanced technology. I have a throughline plot that plays an important role with magic and many historical events along the way. The entire history of a world would let you play the long game and show how different ages work as well as progress shaping the following events. Probably the best choice for a series.
Military Sci-Fi Space Opera - I've got a few settings for sci-fi space opera, but the military one starts with humans in Sol without FTL until aliens show up to add us to the slave stock, but their last probe reported on us in 1945, so they came loaded for a different kind of war. This gives humans the time to tool up with the alien tech and bring the slave empire down around them. The main alien bad guys only got their tech when an AI ark ship landed on their world, and were forced to build advanced tech to keep themselves and their archives alive.
My other settings: An artificial galaxy made to watch modified humans fight over the former homeworlds of fallen empires. Sol system tens of thousands of years into the future but with no FTL. Humans are forced to colonize the galaxy using an FTL method that doesn't allow for digital anything, so ships and tools are all analogue. (Im trying to start this setting with my own channel right now, but I suck at visual art) And many other ideas that don't have a setting to live in yet.
I would love to be involved with this project!
You guys are the best when describing the lore.
I am older than you guys, but when I see a project like this, I am filled with wonder and envy, because if I had a chance to do something like this before I had a mortgage... But seriously, longtime lurker, very much looking forward to the community building dimension of this.
Looking forward to seeing what comes up.
the Taangali wastes have my vote!
I watched Daniel from Spacedock go off with his own original Sci-Fi story (The Soujourn) and now Marc takes flight as well. Very grateful to be able to follow you on this new adventure.
I’m definitely hyped
Oh this series is gonna be so much fun, I can already tell. =)
And I will admit, I've been worldbuilding stories and cultures and so on sense at least Season 2 and 3 of Ninjago and most likely farther back, and over the years my worldbuilding skills have become a lot more refined; I love worldbuilding, not only is it just something fun I love ta do (and helps me stay entertained whenever I'm bored), it's also a coping mechanism of mine, it helps me scape the harshness of reality and calm down a bit.
For me, worldbuilding goes like this --> At any moment a character or multiple characters pops into my head and I start to interact with them, getting a good understanding of who they are and what they're like; after that's all done I begin forging their home, I first take bits and pieces of information I have on my home and cram it into a blender, set it on high spin and let it blend for 30 minutes, after that I pour out what I got (the rough draft of the character(s) home) and begin pounding it with my hammer, adding in things I think makes sense while removing parts I don't think do, all the while keeping in mind who I'm creating this world for and the narrative I wanna have with it, when that's done I play what I have in my head (like a movie theater or TV show) and see if I'm happy with the results, if I notice a blind spot in it (like for example, how did the people come to be; was it through magic or science or some combination of the two; why did they pick the aesthetic that they did, what do they eat, and so on) I take it out and work out the blind spot. Now how many times I do the "removing blind spot" part is anyone's guess, but I do know that it's quite a lotta time, hell when I told the basics of one of my stories to a good friend of mine, they thought I was tellin em the whole thing, when I told em no, that's just the tip of the iceberg, they legitimately said that my story's more detailed than J.R.R. Tolkien's world, which is quite the feat, I must say.
Anyways, for those of you who actually read this monstrosity of a RUclips comment, thank you SO much for putting up with this ramble, it means a lot ta me. =) Have a nice day everyone. =)
I just found this channel today. This is a pretty cool idea, and I can't wait to follow it.
Oh man, this project will go far…. It will be amazing!
This has indubitably rekindled my interests in worldbuilding
Great video, and I'm excited to see what you come up with. Cheers.
5:57 that was amazing
I like the subtle Star Wars reference lol, looking forward to more. Hopefully it will be a useful tool to build our own worlds.
I am so hyped! Can't wait to see what you have too say!
Excited to see how this goes.
Would also be interested in someone giving the Templin Institute's worldbuilding a Templin Institute-esque analysis.
Fantastic idea!!!!!! Cannot wait 😊
You guys are an inspiration. Wish I could do what you guys are doing. Cant wait for this!
I can not wait to see where this goes!
Stoked about this!
Im excited to see where this goes
Sounds really exciting!
I went to the other channel, saw nothing there and thought, guess that never happened. Then i saw that this was only posted 13 days ago 😅 can't wait to see what you come up with!
Best birthday present I could ask for.
Wholesome amazing entertaining advertiser friendly video! Love it! I hope the machine spirit of youtube likes it too!
lesssgo!
Suddenly I’ve developed great interest in your Way of World-building series. I’ve already taken the liberty of subscribing to the secondary channel. Best of luck to all of you!
I love worldbuilding for the sake of worldbuilding
The bad thing is that i had changed huge parts so many times thats its hillarious but i would love to see yours
Hoping for low fantasy late mediebal early rennaisance with the start of pike and shot but with traditional noble structure
God i love that period of history where you had a rennaisance modern world but still have tonnes a tiny nobles with retinues knigths religion and a shit tonne of internal strugle treason and conspiracies.
But i expect it to be more futuristic since that seems more in line with your content
Pd:wrote it before you talked about the poll
This might lead to the next great world in fiction. Love this channel.
I am unreasonably hyped for this
I guess I have so many channels I'm following that I lost the updates to this one among them for a while. I really need to clean that up. But I LOVE THE IDEA!
So excited for this!!
Always love worldbuilding series!
It's gonna be so nice! i love worldbuilding, started for a story and let's say the story isn't finished but the journey is great!
