I would like to see a less expensive robot that would help me in my home. At 80, I don't climb ladders and I don't lift stuff that is heavy. There is also the safety issue. If I fall, I need a little help getting up. Maybe in the near future.
Picture this: Digit shows up to your door step with a box in hand and just stands there staring at the door. You open the door, grab the box and say, ‘thank you.’ Digit doesn’t let go of the box. Thinking it may just be a glitch you yank at the box. Digit forcefully yanks the box back almost causing you to stumble off of your feet before it lets go, slowly turns around and walks away.

you could just have humans do the deliveries in those weather conditions and still save money on the time the weather is good. have it do indoor work when the weather is bad so it isnt a sitting duck. seriously people like you think too much in an "all or nothing" manner.
@@xsuploader Yes I will proudly own that, because if "people like me" didn't think that way, the products I've brought to market would have been battle tested by the customer and my competition, and if THEY find problems bad PR via word of mouth will soon follow.
I work in a factory in Central Wisconsin. My coworkers and I are capable of performing tasks at least three times faster than Digit. However, Digit doesn't get sick or require vacation or benefits or demands weekends off. For most factory tasks, Digit could be tethered to a power source from overhead. Kinda makes me fear for my job. I am a huge fan of robotics and Digit is a huge leap forward in my opinion. Bear this in mind: Who are you really trying to help?
Of course, with the exception of those jobs building the robots, most people, having been ‘replaced’ by robots and AI and out of work, won’t be able the afford the things it’s designed to deliver.
Rather than UBI, we need to ensure everyone has a job and low incomes are subsidized to a living wage. We just need to spread the benefits of technology to everyone.
Awesome, it's got a nice simple lightweight design, Atlas, while impressive looks heavy and super expensive. Robots like this will revolutionize our world, in pretty short order.
Think about this. Today, there are more truck drivers than there were coachman or teamsters in the past. It is true that automation will replace today's jobs. In the future, there will be more jobs doing different things than today. About one third of the jobs 5 years in the future don't exist today. Something to think about.
I think these start up robots like digit and tesla are doing great things. Unfortunally boson not yet. I like there robots but so far its just been for show.
I think what I like about this is the lack of military backing and focus on industry and civilian life. I see Boston's main customer as the military, and I think I have a problem with that 🤷♂️

i dont get it, you want them to deliver post\parcels, their so slow, a human is more quick and efficient, and wouldnt you need to recharged them every block, and require human supervision, sounds too expensive?
the speed doesnt matter. It doesnt matter if after a 15 minute drive this takes 2 mins to deliver since the majority of the time is still spent on the road you dont have to recharge every block. This ran a 5k on a single charge. It could probably last a whole shift. it requires minimal supervision its only expensive until its mass produced. then its cheap.
Who is going to feed the families of those replaced by robots? We need to put heavy taxes on these devices to help those negatively impacted by their existence. Automation causes more human suffering then it alleviates. Agreed. That's what A LOT of people don't understand about the coming AI / robotics revolution. They think it'll be the same as the industrial revolution, but this time it's so much different. When you have general purpose AI you can kiss (all) human jobs goodbye.
That’s super neat. I hope people treat the robot well when it gets deployed, we wouldn’t want packages getting stolen or robots getting damaged.

Elderly care would be a good application as well. Helping carry heavy things and helping elderly get up when they fall.
This advancement in technology was inevitable. But are we ready for it?
Jeff Bezos, of course.
