    I'm on a rural fire department in central Kansas, USA, and we have the remote cannons off the center of the front bumper. It works very well. You operate as your own mop up crew on one truck. The driver controls it at about a 45° angle foward of the truck to whichever side the fire line is on and knocks down the majority of the fire/heat and the crew member on the back mops up what is missed by the front and puts a second wet line on the fire edge that helps to greatly reduce relights.

    I am an old Mack mechanic, i suggest replacing the check valve where the 1/4 inch line goes into the starter tank and soapy water around any fittings in the tank to check for leaks. I should hold air for ever. Good truck for a fire unit.

    JH, love your videos. So interesting to see what goes on week to week. Don’t stress if you can’t get 3 videos a week out, it’s a lot of commitment and time and family comes first, especially with the little ones!
    Keep up the great work!

    A normal fire truck has a 150' 1 1/2" front line mounted in a box on the front bumper for primarily fighting fires on equipment or vehicles.

    When we had a pain in the arse air leak on the semis we would lay underneath in the middle of the night or early morning when it was dead quite and you’d be surprised but you will hear a air leak eventually. Trust me it works. 😀

    Was a mechanic in the army when they were introduced (along with the Mercedes Unimog). Didn't have much to do with them, but I remember a lot of consternation when it was claimed the water tanker, when full, exceeded the allowed front axle loading in every state and territory.
    Don't know if it was true or not, but i wouldn't be surprised, many silly things got passed the specs and trials.

    John don't be a engineer and make things hard with pump direction. Reverse direction of pump for easy maintenance. Run pump suction along inside chassis frame. Remember those outlets run to each section of the tank . Remember the KISS principal as remember maintenance is a big thing , good luck and hope it goes well for a good season too

      CFA in Victoria does the same with its new tankers.

    Why not fashion a mount for the spare tire on the rear? It would free up so much room.

    Ever thought about putting, a few valves on start tank, keeps air isolated in the tank ?

      Yer something we might do to make sure it starts

    Why not just fix the air leaks or put a valve on the starter air tank?

    Can you put a tap somewhere on the airtank to stop the air loss??

    I have a few questions if it's ok?
    -Is it normal for farmers to have there own custom Trunks like what you are doing? If it isn't a RFS truck or a private former RFS truck I see guys with sutttles on the back of Utes were I'm from. So it's interesting to see you put so much thought into this, the attitude around here seems very different when it comes to fires and safety.
    - You seem to not be worried about maneuverability, I'm guessing it's mostly flat county you have to deal with no hills or hard to access spots or banks to drive over.
    -And do you plan on getting the entire truck up to standard with heat resistant cab liners and making sure the wires, air lines aren't left exposed if they already aren't covered?

    • @tomsbrookfarm
      @tomsbrookfarm  5 месяцев назад

      There isn't a paid fire brigade around here, we the farmers are the brigade. There are two "fire trucks" from the government in the Cascade area as part of our VBFB but that is still crewed by farmers.
      So all farmers have to have their own fire units be it a truck or a pull along. By law we have to have at least a 2000L fire unit in the paddock in order for us to start harvest. It's such a risk here with our dry harsh summers that you would be crazy to not have something.
      As there is no brigade if a fire stats on our property we are fighting it and waiting for neighbours to come and assist, however it can be up to half an hour before the first person arrives so this is why we are trying to make the biggest and best unit to do the job .
      In terms of manoeuvrability this truck will be able to go anywhere, be it sand, mud, clay, bush, hills, ditches nothing will stop it. Most of our country is flat around here but there is a lot of sand and a lot of river country which can have all sorts of terrain.
      And in terms of fire proofing we will do only what is needed, no need to go to overboard

    Have you got a brand name for those remote water cannons that Tom has JH? Im in the market for one aswell but the ones I've found are very pricey!

      No I don't, its off Alibaba so its a no named Chinese thing. If you go on there and type in water cannon a lot pop up

    I wish our drum muster was that easy for some reason not sure if it is our council but someone has to inspect every drum that gets thrown into it makes a long day when there is 3 or 400 drums 😂😂🤦🏼‍♂️

    • @tomsbrookfarm
      @tomsbrookfarm  5 месяцев назад

      Yer that would take a while! It can get pretty bad when its not regulated though, we have had a few times that the community has had to go down and was out the drums as some lazy worker didn't wash them out and just chucked them in

    It's not a farm truck. it's for the community if everyone does it once in your lifetime, i know a family near jh they own 26000 acres ,at a dollar per acre over 5 years or 30 year farming life it is nothing, save the neighbours house or yours
