  • 96.5 WSVM is a small-town FM radio station that is garnering many accolades. In western North Carolina it is one of the most highly rated stations in a market that includes big corportate Charlotte-based offerings. In this video we tour the small, but impressive studio. We see the upgraded gear that is used to keep the station up and running. WSVM uses PlayoutONE software and the Blade system for broadcast. They also use MusicMaster scheduling, and have recently won an international award for their broadcast success. The Wheatstone IP-12 - Console is WSVM's mixer of choice. Many thanks to Eddie Jolly for his excellent walk-through. Visit their site and listen: www.wsvmradio....

Eddie seems like such a joy to be around. Congrats to him for building his little radio empire. It's the kind of thing that keeps America alive.
Real radio is making a comeback, mostly online just because spectrum space is so incredibly valuable that only the mega corporations can afford it. Two of my favs are Funtower Radio and xxx80s. These folks have fun doing what they do and it shows.

To Tony and Eddie, many thanks for the tour of what really is a jewel in radio. My sister lives in Fallston, and so I get to listen to your terrestrial signal on the occasions that I'm there...I bounced around a bit growing up, so I can say with some authority that North Carolina has always punched way above its weight in broadcasting as a whole. As a child I lived in Raleigh and listened to WKIX with Pat Patterson, Dale Van Horn, Charlie Brown and the rest. I skip monitored stations from all over, especially WJR Detroit with their HoF DJ lineup...Both of you are correct. Radio (all of it, but especially AM) went from being cheescake to sponge cake, to stale bread to recycled plaster over the past few decades. I found WSVM quite by fate, and I'm glad I did. I'm retired and live in the Philippines now, but I still tune in on occasion via the Radio Garden app. And I'm happy to report that the buffering is minimal, even compared to some of the local stations...Great work both, and keep on Max Booming!...

Nice facility, and congrats on the nice studio improvements. But, having been on the air for 40+ years, I don't think I could sit that close to a street level window like that, and certainly not facing out. The glare would mess with my eyes too much. I'd have designed it sitting 90-degrees from the window!

Windows are tinted and the sun never comes straight into them. It's pretty comfy in there and the fans really enjoy seeing us in there.

GREAT STATION!!!!! S happy to know independent stations are still here, not in my area so sad. Would love to have worked at a station like that. I miss our local stations, don't like the "cow pattiy" stations we have here, junk!

What kills me about Internet Radio Stations, cause I'm a Host on one. The License's are Based on AM/FM Terrestrial Broadcasts which are based on "Markets" and that is based on the Population in those Markets. Where as Internet Radio Streams can actually show the Number of Listener's tuned into the station at anyone time. And that is how they charge Internet Radio Stations. So it's not cheap. I bookmarked you Station... I live what you play.. It's the same Format I've been playing for the last 16 plus years as a Internet Radio Host..

Of course they do. That's why they call them "pirates". Why follow power rules when you don't follow any rules at all? We broadcast what we are allowed to. Your "pirate" may be around for a bit but they'll get caught eventually....
