Havent been here in ages. I went in like 2008. I only had a full blown downhill bike. I remember my friend parked kinda far away and that hill in the neighborhood was hell to climb bouncing all over.
Dude, you’re awesome! These guides are fantastic. More time on the right trails, less time trying to find them. More importantly-less time spent stomping land that should be left alone. Much respect keep it up! 🤙🏼
I have ridden some of these trails but never linked it that way. I have been kinda thinking about it when I look at trail forks. I’m still learning the trails out here in California but man you get me stoked on the local stuff. You explain it well bro. Hope to run into you sometime. Thanks man. I learn something new about riding and location when I watch. I’m now going through your older stuff since I discovered your channel. Thank you bro.
Nice Tony really appreciate you showing the trails in detail, I have never ridden laguna trails and would be totally lost, this helps me out a grip I plan to go soon for sure. 🤘🏻
Awesome Tony ,thank you for the step by step trail guide...Im like u we always ride Crystal Cove and Laguna Woods on Saturdays...Hopefully I’ll run into u one of these days on the Trail...I will be hitting these trails with a couple of friends on Thursday 2/11 first time (made notes so it will be kinda learning trail day ,hopefully we don’t get lost....love all ur videos be safe always and happy trails and HAVE A RAD DAY as MTB Alan would say.
Great job Tony, Aliso is a lot of fun. I did Lynx for the first time this weekend and it was phenomenal. I'm surprised you didn't go do Meadows; I think that's one of the longest descents our there. Rock on dude!
Some of like to punish ourselves once and awhile and we ride up meadows. That is probably the hardest climb that people regularly do in Aliso. I only do it on weekdays when it is not so busy with dh'ers.
Just rode these trails today. Awesome guide, the last trail is way sketchier in person 😅. The camera doesn’t do it justice haha. It was a blast my friend and I did 5 laps today and we are feeling dead 😂
Another great ride and guide! SoCal riding always looks wicked fast, exposed and blind, but I suppose you get used to it. You're a great rider and the perfect guide. Thanks for the vids
@@TheOutsiderMTB Yessir! We've got about 4 rides in so far and are still adjusting to the techy trails and lack of grip. LOL No wonder everybody comes to ride Santa Cruz! :) Come to the dark side and join us Tony
Just rode rock-it today and had some trouble with the step up and technical climb following the chunky section of the trail. Any tips to clear that bump and short technical climb?
Thanks Chris! Loving the new tires. I liked the Maxxis, as well. Having some fun mixing things up a bit between the two. Feeling more stability on these wider ones though for sure. Good times. 🤘🏼
Great video, thanks for the tips. Are there any easier trails to go down? Today was my first time MTBn and I here . Took Wood Canyon and went up Cholla (omg that was tough for a beginner) then rode West Ridge and took Mathis DH. I think rock-it, Car Wreck and 5 oaks might be to advanced for me. Also i'm riding a hardtail. Is Mathis strictly for climbing? Thanks
So... Physical fitness question... Bear with me - you'll see why I'm asking about this through this video's comments. I've been doing the Loop just about every weekend for the last year and a half. Typical time is about 1 hr 20 to 1 hr 30. When I go to Santiago, starting by Anaheim Hills Elementary, I can make it to the top of the hill, take a breather, ride down Yucca, then head up Coach Whip. BUT, after about a quarter of the way up (or sometimes half), I'm done... I'm walking... What does it take, to get into the kind of shape you need, to be able to keep going to the top of Coachwhip, or to get to the top of Cholla (that's what sparked my question - seeing you climb up Cholla non-stop). Have you done a video on that, or considered it? Maybe it can be called, "What it takes to make it to the top!" Appreciate your thoughts/ reply in advance! P.S. Hope Pip's doing great as always!
Hi Ben - possible video idea, but in the meantime to be honest it takes more than a one or two day a week commitment. The more rides you can get in consecutively the more endurance you’ll have. If I don’t ride for even a week sometimes it feels like starting over. If I’m riding 4 times a week after the first week I’m pretty solid on no walking. If you can give it a try and ride tougher routes. Fullerton is a good pedal but not much for long strenuous climbs you really need to boost you out of that bubble.
@@TheOutsiderMTB Thanks, Tony! I appreciate the reply, and the honest feedback! It's hard for me to ride more than a couple times a week, due to my schedule. But at least now I have a better idea of what it would take, if I want to achieve that level of stamina. Thanks again!
@@TheOutsiderMTB Good to see you at the park today, Tony! Wish I coulda stopped to shake a hand and actually pet Pip, but I was trying to beat my time. Maybe next time!
i might be lazy here... just a 4 mos old on this hobby and like the other guy mentioned here, i'm very much eager to spend time riding the trail than finding them. can you provide us a list where we can find trails around orange county? thank you...
I have numerous trail guides from around Orange County on the channel. Also, download Mtb projects and Trailforks - they are a great tool to mapping out your ride beforehand and making sure you’re on the right path on the trails. I also have specific ride links to the locations from my trail guides in the descriptions. Hope that helps.
The Outsider MTB the rangers don’t really care who goes on telonics because it’s built by the Laguna dads who are local to the area and the rangers are cool with those guys. Telonics is a really fun trail though
Im headed to Laguna Beach next week. I live on Vancouver North Shore and am considering trying to sneak a ride in. SHould I? Wheres a good spot to rent a bike?
Awesome just came back from the northshore and made a bunch of vids. You live in an amazing place. You should definitely get a ride in here. Much different style of riding. Go to The Path bike shop and tell them I sent you. They’ll take good care of you. 👊✔️
When you do the Mathis climb there's a little loop called Dripping Cave (if it's open yet) with a fun little climb and descent. It's The cave is pretty cool to check out.
Not trying to be too much of a negative nelly, but these trails seem pretty weak... Borderline double track, mostly straight, badly rutted, few features. I'm always looking for new places to ride given how few there are in So Cal, but this won't be one that I'll try...
Great stuff Tony. Becoming one of the best mtb channels on RUclips especially for us locals.. Keep up the great job...
Thanks Brandon - appreciate that a lot man!
I learn everything from watching you. I take my kids along these trails. Thank you Tony! Keep up the great job!

I’ve been meaning to go that route soon. If you’re on that side it seems like the fastest way back up instead of going all the way back to cholla.
*enjoying every one of your videos lately*

Great and helpful vid Tony. Rode Lynx for the first time today. Impressive with how quickly you bombed it!

Mentally prepare and get ready to downshift to make the climb up and over the rick into the climb.

Question - do you run chain guide and bash guard? What's your experience with them? (For SoCal trails)
Not right now but I have before. And might again in the future.
Is cayote run trail finally open after the fire?
I rode out on the left side. Not sure of the right side, but I didn’t see any signs saying it was closed. I’d say you should be good. ✔️
Not to the Mathis side. Really miss those closed trails, they tied the whole place together really well.
