I bought the ebay special and while it was shipping I found some youtube exhaust clips of it and was so displeased that I sold it without testing it and bought a Cobalt exhaust which I am very happy with. Funny thing is, the other day one of my car-guy coworkers was like: "I heard a terrible sounding exhaust yesterday, it sounded rattly and very obnoxious." After asking a few questions I found out it was the same car of the dude I sold the exhaust to, and I as I have learned, the reason why they sound so terrible is because the muffler is completely hollow with a single metal tube running through it with holes in it. The welds on that tube will break after a few weeks and then it will rattle about inside with no way to remove it. Poor guy is stuck with that rice exhaust until he swaps it out 😂

When I bought my 1990 miata, it was straight piped past the cat. After a month I was so worn out with it. I couldn't hear my thoughts past 3k. I swapped to a borla catback and it sounds amazing in person. I currently have the borla catback with a magnaflow highflow cat and a racing beat header. The highflow cat added a little volume without ruining the sound of the borla. The header smoothed out any extra rasp that was left in the borla. Overall I love the sound the exhaust on my car. I sounds the best between 2k and 4k which is where I keep it 90% of the time.
I bought the Yonaka when it was on sale and back order for $250. I love it but I have a test pipe and wouldn’t recommend it. At full throttle around 3k rpms it has a loud rasp. I plan on getting another cat due to this. Couldn’t use the original cat since it was mad doctored with 10mm bolts and welded LOL. Otherwise I love the sound and it has been a really solid exhaust.

Ha, I actually have the DNA motoring exhaust. I was thinking between that and the manzo but at the time the manzo was out of stock. I’ll be honest, it does sound bad when it isn’t warmed up. You missed the 3" exhaust with Flowmaster 12578 option. Then again, it's a custom exhaust as opposed to off the shelf. Might be too quiet for you though. It's really stealthy.
I like quiet. lol My miata isnt my daily so a loud exhaust I can live with for now though. I also wish there were more off the shelf 3" options because I am supercharged now. I wonder how hard it would be to build my own...
I do like a lot of things about it like sound, price and looks. It is actually the one I use granted with some modifications to make it a little quieter.
@@EastOnyx I ended up welding in a cherry bomb resonator. I bought my Corolla with a straight pipe. It has a rasp how do you eliminate that rasp? Has a slight rasp even with stock muffler. It doesn’t look like it has a resonator? Do I add one?
yup! resonators are a good place to start. They might might not lower the volume as much as a muffler, but they help smooth out the exhaust notes. In this video I put a cherry bomb on my exhaust and you can hear the before and after. It takes some rasp out. ruclips.net/video/rH783QoNElI/видео.html
Hey there, does anyone have any further info/reviews on the J2 engineering exhaust? I'm looking around for an exhaust and at the moment I'm torn between the ISR and the J2. I've heard that the ISR does drone pretty bad though.
J2 looks to be almost ebay exclusive and most people get the manzo replica when they buy off ebay so yeah, pretty rare to find videos/reviews. ISR definitely will drone a bit. You could always add an extra resonator or look at the more quieter options like cobalt etc.
one thing i dont really get is why people obsess over how the exhaust looks. like the only thing that really matters is maybe the tip cause thats all you can see, but more importatly is the sound. the looks shouldnt matter as much, no?
i didn’t make my research on Dna motoring one, I do not recommend it sounds worst than a riced it honda civic with straight pipes also a lot of rasp and cute small pops🤣😭 i needa upgrade soon and i just got it on
the risk of ebay specials for sure lol. If anything they are worth it in the pipes alone. chop off their muffler and slap on a good one and BAM you still got a great deal!
I'm in CA too and yeah some places are pretty lame lol. The Manzo is definitely a car alarm setting loud. But half the price of the Yonaka! Worst case you could always try a silencer in the tip or welding in an extra muffler (not resonator).
Unfortunately free reving doesn’t give you the full picture if an exhaust, i say this as I’ve had the Roadstersport 3 and Roadstersport 4 both of which come to life when actually driving, they both sound brilliant.
Borla s pipe all day can always trust a company that's been making exhausts for ferrari for generations if you want a clean smooth not ear raping your neighborhood unless you really get on it then do it if you have the money. Why put cheap parts on something you'll be driving everyday. My thought process
I had a manzo. It sounds good yes. But you get tinnitus while you're driving. I got a cobalt replica made by a local company and that looks anf sounds way cleaner. Just enough loudness to make some boomers frown, but not so much you can't talk with eachother anymore.
i like the cobalt but from what i can see you cant buy it anymore? everywhere i look the exhaust tip points out straigt instead of turning right to stick out the back of the miata. anyone know where i would be able to get one?
yeah unfortunately looks like the colbalt for the NA is currently not available. Maybe email Moss Miata and let them know you'd like to see it come back? The Borla has a stock-ish appearance so that could be an option.
@@HazardGarage I ordered a Cobalt cat back in August, 2021, it is STILL out of stock! Looking at getting something else, Yonaka is in stock on Amazon right now
I bit the bullet and ordered the Yonaka a couple days ago. Shipped out of Canada yesterday, due Thursday or Friday. I bought this partly based on your review, thanks!
its pretty loud. can set off car alarms. If cops in your area are 'sensitive' you just might. Could try running an exhaust silencer or welding another straight through muffler (not resonator) to help quiet it down.
only the manzo is my recording using a rode external mic. its a clip compilation so I can't control how other people record their clips. though I totally agree with your point.
I have a 97 and slight modification was needed. I had to drill an extra O2 sensor bung and cut off an extra exhaust hanger. Although I think the 94s didnt have the seconday O2 sensor yet so you might be good to go...or at minimum angle grind the extra hanger off. If you do decide to buy the manzo or any other exhaust, please click on the link to help support the channel at no extra cost to you. TY 🙏
Hey just curious. I was looking at the Manzo exhaust and look at compatibility. I have a 99 Miata but its not compatible. What does it really mean 'not compatible' its just an exhaust? What is there in an exhaust that makes in not compatibly. If anyone could inform me that'd be great thank you.
I am not 100% sure if the 99s have the same exhaust path as the NA miatas. But for example later model year NA miatas would have to add a post-catalytic converter o2 sensor bung (which I had to do on my 97).
yeah should fit up no problem. If your car has 2 O2 sensors then you will need to drill and add another bung. I have a link for a clamp on bung in the description.
i believe the current yonaka exhaust being sold on ebay is basically the manzo exhaust. but at its current price thats a pretty good deal. I bought it for at least $40 more 😭
theres a 200€ exhaust from Poland which sounds like a mix of the Cobalt and flyin miata Exhausts i have it on my Mx5 its from Ulter sport ruclips.net/video/JqJV2GTXlTk/видео.html i mean its legal in Germany so its a similar sound but propably 15 decibles quieter
yeah unfortunately looking at Mossmiata.com it does seem like the NA exhausts are currently unavailable, although they still sell the headers and NB+ exhausts
the link should take you to the ebay search results. The name Manzo is still being sold, just under some different names. But here are some updated links: eBay: ebay.us/VllvrW Amazon: amzn.to/3eRSNi1
I loved my manzo for the first couple months I had it, but after a little under a year running it with a test pipe and two-step, the core tube inside the muffler got blown to pieces that now rattle around inside and make the most awful noises

My 2004 NB Miata which is turbocharged is loud but not because of the muffler. It’s the down pipe I can hear especially when I’m in the higher RPMs.
I don't know if this is just in my head or not, but does the new & improved cobalt exhaust sound any different to the older version? Or is it the same but with a different design?
Good question. Wish I knew the answer. I do know that they were out of stock for a good while and appear to be back in stock.
i have a remus cat back exhaust sound pretty decent
nice!
I am kinda liking the borla
you wouldnt be the only one
I have an axleback and I love it.
@@VitoC. which one?
Cobalt is very good!!!
agreed. its definitely one of the cleaner sounding ones. great daily driver choice.
the instant we get to see an ebay exhaust its a fart can
that DNA one was like a diarrhea can
The cobalt shown in the video is the old version! there is a new updated version that replaced it!
whoa!~ this is a new development! thanks for the update!
I wonder how hard it would be to build my own...
the manzo in my opinion is the best
I do like a lot of things about it like sound, price and looks. It is actually the one I use granted with some modifications to make it a little quieter.
@@HazardGarage Could you tell me what you did to the manzo? I've heard its a bit drone-y cruising.
@@EastOnyx I ended up welding in a cherry bomb resonator. Its still loud but helped with the drone. ruclips.net/video/rH783QoNElI/видео.html
Other alternatives are running a silencer:
ruclips.net/video/a8HZBW0ge7k/видео.html
Or you can try running a test pipe (no-cat).
Key here is eliminating that low drone frequency. Hope this helps!
@@HazardGarage Thanks for the detailed response!
@@EastOnyx no problem! let me know how it goes!
also check out the ebay link in the description for the manzo (rep) exhaust. Its at least $40 cheaper than what it was when I bought it 😭
My only criteria is quiet/and quality. Is the Roadster Sport 3 your pick for that?
that would be one of the exhausts that fit your criteria imo.
Ayo where can u find the manzo exhaust- Ik they discontinued it and I’m trynna snag one for my 93 1.6
I have links in the description that should be helpful!
hey idk if you’ve heard about the circuit werks 1.6 exhaust idk what to think about it but i kinda liked a video a youtuber uploaded not too long ago
I also have vids of the yonaka with isr mid pipe pipe borla duals with isr mid pipe
How was the day to day volume and livability?
@@HazardGarage the yonaka was way better than the borla. I was surprised how much I didn't like the borla
Manzo my favorite
thats the one I went with! I think its best bang for buck but a bit loud
I liked the Borla quite a bit
tried and true!
Yeah me too. I little pricey but it going to be worth it tho
@@HazardGarage Gotcha! Thanks so much for the tips.
i bought a miata a few months ago and after watching this video i now know i have the ebay special 😭
oh nooo. On the bright side the pipe is good stuff just replace the muffler and resonator and you should be golden.
one thing i dont really get is why people obsess over how the exhaust looks. like the only thing that really matters is maybe the tip cause thats all you can see, but more importatly is the sound. the looks shouldnt matter as much, no?
i didn’t make my research on Dna motoring one, I do not recommend it sounds worst than a riced it honda civic with straight pipes also a lot of rasp and cute small pops🤣😭 i needa upgrade soon and i just got it on
the risk of ebay specials for sure lol. If anything they are worth it in the pipes alone. chop off their muffler and slap on a good one and BAM you still got a great deal!
I just bought the manzo one & I’m putting it on tmr.. hmm I live in CA.. where the car laws are strict af lmfao now I kinda wish I got the yonaka one.
I'm in CA too and yeah some places are pretty lame lol. The Manzo is definitely a car alarm setting loud. But half the price of the Yonaka!
Worst case you could always try a silencer in the tip or welding in an extra muffler (not resonator).
Flying Miata needed a set of rings.
Forget the exhaust 🤣
Unfortunately free reving doesn’t give you the full picture if an exhaust, i say this as I’ve had the Roadstersport 3 and Roadstersport 4 both of which come to life when actually driving, they both sound brilliant.
agreed. unfortunately the video was limited by the clips available online. =(
Sad, ive been trying to find manzo exhaust for na8 and cant find anywhere. Think they stopped production a while ago...
I think the brand might have stopped but you can definitely find the same exhaust but branded differently on ebay. All the same factory probably haha
If I change the exhaust do I have to retune or do anything to the motor?
no tune needed for a catback exhaust!
The j2 on mine is almost gone because it scrapes the floor so much
Borla s pipe all day can always trust a company that's been making exhausts for ferrari for generations if you want a clean smooth not ear raping your neighborhood unless you really get on it then do it if you have the money. Why put cheap parts on something you'll be driving everyday. My thought process
well said
Flyin Miata for me, but I’m in my 40’s
would you have chosen the manzo or ISR maybe 20 years ago? lol
Lol. Before I finished the video I thought the Manzo and Yonaka sounded the best.
conveniently they are also priced the best. lol
I dun know …I am so debating between yonaka/ borla /cobalt ….
I had a manzo. It sounds good yes. But you get tinnitus while you're driving. I got a cobalt replica made by a local company and that looks anf sounds way cleaner. Just enough loudness to make some boomers frown, but not so much you can't talk with eachother anymore.
yeah the manzo is definitely ... loud. lol
exacty what my wasted ass needed today, thanks buddy
you were irresponsible and shopped for exhausts while drunk didnt you...
@@HazardGarage shopped ? you mean chopped, like a foot after the cat
i like the cobalt but from what i can see you cant buy it anymore? everywhere i look the exhaust tip points out straigt instead of turning right to stick out the back of the miata. anyone know where i would be able to get one?
yeah unfortunately looks like the colbalt for the NA is currently not available. Maybe email Moss Miata and let them know you'd like to see it come back? The Borla has a stock-ish appearance so that could be an option.
@@HazardGarage I ordered a Cobalt cat back in August, 2021, it is STILL out of stock! Looking at getting something else, Yonaka is in stock on Amazon right now
@@markzimmer1486 😥that sucks! Supply chain issues are real! Yonaka isnt bad either!
I bit the bullet and ordered the Yonaka a couple days ago. Shipped out of Canada yesterday, due Thursday or Friday. I bought this partly based on your review, thanks!
@@markzimmer1486 Awesome! let me know how it goes/sounds in person!
How about magnaflow?
It’s the cat back for me
Is the Manzo loud as in I could get pulled over?
its pretty loud. can set off car alarms. If cops in your area are 'sensitive' you just might.
Could try running an exhaust silencer or welding another straight through muffler (not resonator) to help quiet it down.
The racing beat also had a cat delete
consider differences in recording devices and technique.
only the manzo is my recording using a rode external mic. its a clip compilation so I can't control how other people record their clips. though I totally agree with your point.
Will the manzo fit on a 94 miata with a 1.8L?
I have a 97 and slight modification was needed. I had to drill an extra O2 sensor bung and cut off an extra exhaust hanger. Although I think the 94s didnt have the seconday O2 sensor yet so you might be good to go...or at minimum angle grind the extra hanger off.
If you do decide to buy the manzo or any other exhaust, please click on the link to help support the channel at no extra cost to you. TY 🙏
Yup I confirmed this on my 94. It fit perfectly with the obvious modifications of cutting or grinding down a bit on where the brace was.
Are these cat or decat?
thank you sir
😎👉👉 Glad it was helpful!
J2 engineering sounds amazing but after one year my resonator cracked in two
Fujitsubo was the best imo
Hey just curious. I was looking at the Manzo exhaust and look at compatibility. I have a 99 Miata but its not compatible. What does it really mean 'not compatible' its just an exhaust? What is there in an exhaust that makes in not compatibly. If anyone could inform me that'd be great thank you.
I am not 100% sure if the 99s have the same exhaust path as the NA miatas. But for example later model year NA miatas would have to add a post-catalytic converter o2 sensor bung (which I had to do on my 97).
@@HazardGarage Ok thanks ig have to do more research on things like that
@@rockin1515 you can start here! I made an NB version too.
ruclips.net/video/XnK8hbqKEco/видео.html
I want a sound like james bonds bar in the 60s 70s
Would this monzo link fit on a 1995?
yeah should fit up no problem. If your car has 2 O2 sensors then you will need to drill and add another bung. I have a link for a clamp on bung in the description.
I love my cobalt dual tip, but I really want an isr, somebody trade me:)
haha Cobalt too reserved for you?
@@HazardGarage I just want a slightly louder muffler, it already doesn’t have cats. I’m sending it to you for if you make another video:)
@@soflo4317 I think ISR or Manzo would work for you! 😁
The price drop for the Yonaka on eBay is pretty significant, is there any way to really know if it’s legit? Or am I just being paranoid lol
i believe the current yonaka exhaust being sold on ebay is basically the manzo exhaust. but at its current price thats a pretty good deal. I bought it for at least $40 more 😭
I got the Yonaka on amazon for $290
@@mfthick Thats a pretty good deal for the one in the video. I think they have gone slightly up in price over the years 😑
theres a 200€ exhaust from Poland which sounds like a mix of the Cobalt and flyin miata Exhausts i have it on my Mx5
its from Ulter sport
ruclips.net/video/JqJV2GTXlTk/видео.html
i mean its legal in Germany so its a similar sound but propably 15 decibles quieter
wow! thats a good deal! Perfect for people that daily drive it. Wish they were more accessible in the US! thanks for sharing!
Take a shot every time he says the word “clean”.
🤣🤣🤣
What about drone ?
Too bad they stopped selling the cobalt in the US
yeah unfortunately looking at Mossmiata.com it does seem like the NA exhausts are currently unavailable, although they still sell the headers and NB+ exhausts
Is the manzo exhaust link the amazon one? it isnt listed as Manzo
the link should take you to the ebay search results. The name Manzo is still being sold, just under some different names.
But here are some updated links:
eBay: ebay.us/VllvrW
Amazon: amzn.to/3eRSNi1
@@HazardGarage both, for less than $200 with good quality? and they fit perfect?
You forgot Mazdaspeed exhaust.. I love mazdaspeed stuff
cant go wrong with oem aftermarket!
I loved my manzo for the first couple months I had it, but after a little under a year running it with a test pipe and two-step, the core tube inside the muffler got blown to pieces that now rattle around inside and make the most awful noises
😖😖😖 well... the pipes themselves are still worth the money. chop them off and replace the mufflers?
Where can I buy the exact same fujitsubo exhaust in 13:24 ?
might be discontinued? I can only find the N1 style canisters. 😢
Still can't find a reason not to get the ISR
Deep and smooth tone and it looks good! Maybe if you're an old man that doesnt like loud noises. 👀
No Magnaflow?
IOWA Miata 😁
I want a quiet but good flowing exhaust. I rather hear the engine but have power
quiet? definitely do not get a Manzo or ISR lol
