Hey guys, thanks for watching! if you liked this video, don't forget to subscribe and turn on the notification bell to see our next video where we explore Singapore more in depth. See you guys soon!
Welcome to Singapore! Hope you have a great time here. For a moment, I thought Jessica Alba had a twin sister who was visiting here! You guys look very cool.
The hawker at Newton is a tourist trap. The prices there are generally higher than other hawker centers. Locals don't usually go there if they don't have to. You can look up old airport Rd hawker center, tekka hawker center (if u fancy Indian cuisine), kampung glam if u fancy malay food, golden mile hawker center, maxwell hawker center, amoy street hawker center are a few that's near to town.
NOT true anymore. I think u havent been to newton food centre for many decades?? It used to be more touristy in the 80s & 90s, then the govt intervened when there were so much complaints from the tourists😊Now u dont even see any stalls there touting anymore, so many stalls have changed & not the same as before. I do feel more comfortable going to newton circus these days, & they have been one of my favorite places to go eat. Their real coconut fruit drink actually cheaper than most hawker centres too, only $3.50 for the whole coconut!!..🎉🎉 Also, this is the SAME hawker centre that have some scenes shot for the crazy rich asians movie!!❤❤
When did you last visit Newton Circus Food Centre to reach such an absurd conclusion? l am a veteran STB Tour guide it may have seemed like a tourist trap in the 80s as prices were not properly displayed, but not anymore. The entire place is now filled with locals during lunchtime and mostly tourists when the night falls.
@@monalisaaltenburg4879 No you are wrong. The government didn’t do anything. It was the Asian Financial Crisis in 1997 that changed everything. People had less money, and there was less tourist. The hawkers changed immediately, they were friendlier and stopped over pricing. True story.
You pointed out somethings which some travellers might have missed, and that is there is a lot of nature around. Not parks, forests or mountains, but trees have been deliberately planted everywhere to “greenify” the city.
Welcome to our tiny island!!! The first food centre you visited is the People's Park Complex Food Centre. You should try the other 2 nearby too, Chinatown Complex Market and Food Centre and Maxwell Food Centre. Enjoy your stay and safe travels.
Welcome to our sunny island❤ If you want to stay out of the heat in the noon, head out to SEA Aquarium....one of the largest in the world, there is also a vivocity nearby to keep the heat down😊
Welcome to Singapore! Despite the heat, I must say both of you look amazing! That place you had dinner at is catered more to tourists, hence the higher prices. If you want good local hawker fare, Chinatown is a good place to go to. Just be brave and try a couple of dishes daily for lunch and dinner if you're around the area. Have fun, people!
Welcome to Singapore. You guys should have went to Chinatown Complex hawker centre instead. It is where more local food can be found. It is also the biggest hawker centre in Singapore. People's Park side has become quite populated with Chinese food (i.e. food from China). The noodles you bought are Chinese/China food not Singaporean or South East Asian. We have our own versions of chinese (referring to our race not the citizenship) food. Newton food centre is very touristy as well and it's centrally located. Hence the food pricing is higher and they cater more to the tourists. Other popular local hawker centres are Old Airport Road, Tiong Bahru, Amoy, Hong Lim and many other hawker centres around the residential areas. Mike Chen visited Singapore on numerous occasions and he had tried many many many local food. You can look through his playlists.
@@Catzfamily269as a Singaporean, yeah it's over rated in some ways but in many ways it's still an awesome place to live! Malay and Indian food here can be good too but as my Malaysian friends tell me everything tastes better in Malaysia. 😅
There are places with good and cheap foods, and places not. If you want to know which stall in a hawker center offers delicious or cheap food or both, find one with a long queue by the locals.
From the glimpse of the second hawker centre in the video, it looks like it is Newton Hawker Centre. This hawker centre is notorious for ripping off tourist.
THAT was in the past in the 80s & 90s, no longer touristy as before in the last 10 yrs..I have been going there regularly after the makeover & u dont even see anyone touting anymore, thats all in the past!!❤❤
The first noodles you ate in Chinatown is actually China cuisine and generally is really catering to Chinese from China. Singapore Chinese do not eat this as much.
Haha! Newton hawker centre is one of the 'not so good ones' in Singapore. I was around that area while visiting Singapore last year, and dropped in for lunch. Found out from friends living there later that it's one of the worst in Singapore! Tourist trap, I heard. Extremely disappointed. I've heard the Tiong Bahru one is really one of the best. Will be going there on my next visit to Singapore.

I think the west have no clue that southeast asian chinese is completely different from china chinese😂😂We grew up in southeast asia environment, so naturally we've strong influence of southeast cultures; our type of food is S.E.A. rather than china chinese😊❤ I often seen so many foreigners came & ate china type of food like mala or north eastern china & they mistaken thats singaporean food. They are just recent new food that brought in by recent new immigrants from china. That explains why many of that type of food can be found at our chinatown(our china town is really china-the-town now😅😂).Many tourists have no idea those arent even our familiar type of southeast asia food.😆😅
1st Hawker center had the best food (even China stalls) but you went to 2nd which is ok but Newton Hawker!!??! I lived here so long and been there once due to work, it's an overrated tourist trap. Your content so much better than those low quality 10$ budget drinks from machine and little india ones
Don't speak too soon about the food. Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia has awesome food that is perhaps better than Singapore. Your declaration that Singapore has the best food in south east asia might have ignited their fury... That said, try looking for Hainanese Chicken rice, laksa, popiah, hokkien mee, prawn noodles, wanton noodles, bak chor mee (pork noodles), roti prata, nasi biryani, nasi lemak, mee soto, nasi padang, rojak and kaya toast breakfast set (comes with half boiled eggs and a beverage of your choice, remember to ask for less/no sugar or the default will be very sweet).
Geez,DO U malaysians have a life?😄U are always bringing up ur malaysia & indonesia whenever S'pore's name being mentioned.🤭 The fact is that malaysia & Indonesia DONT have better food than Sg, they only have CHEAPER FOOD due to diff standard of living, thats all. Many often mistaken cheaper means better😆🤣I have tried many places in malaysia, NO they arent better, only cheaper. Their hygiene level is another factor that deter me from praising they have better food.😢Food safety is so impt for many of us unless u alrdy so used to 3rd world hygiene level.😅 Most imptly, Singapore has thousands of hawker centres so how can u say others have better food than SG??!!? IN S'pore, there're so many choices of food since Sg is globalised with so diverse cultures.❤❤Another gd thing about the eating experience in Singapore is that the country is so compact that all the stalls are mostly CONCENTRATED in 1 area unlike malaysia & indonesia!!😂 The eating experience on these 3 countries so diff, u OFTEN need to drive to a far away location just to eat at a stall or restaurant, so much time wasted on the trip🥴 Thats why big countries like Malaysia & Indonesia need longer time to tour in the country cos u spend too much TIME driving on the roads, not to mention the traffic jams suck in these developing countries😂 But in singapore is so TIME efficient for tourists.🎉🎉 Who doesnt want to see MORE in 1 place & eat at MORE places in 1 area??❤❤
I'm Singaporean. Just stating facts that we do not have the best food. Give credit where credit is due. However, Singapore does do some foods better. It's a matter of each individual's pallette to be honest. So no need to have a war about it.

Should have gone to Chinatown Complex (2nd floor) for great cheap food and more variety than the Maxwell Food Centre which is about 100m away.
