Thank you so much Marshall. I've been having a hard time sitting down and studying and learning but listening to you helps me so much. It's very relaxing and inspiring. Thank you again.
Walt Disney purchased many Kley sketchbooks, they are in the Disney archive. They have shown large replica's of these books which are gorgeous, when they have presented a history of their animation and influence on their animation. Aside from drawings of animals, people, etc. there are lovely drawings of flowers, with many illustrations in color. If only these replica's were available for purchase what a boon they would be.
during the exercises portion of this when you say "do a few things with it" do you mean variations on? meaning like , study it once, then variate, or do the same thing 6 times in the times allotted? i love Heinrich kley btw. was a good vid, will check out the others.
Variations... sure! But if you have a hankering to try a single thing over and over to "get it the rightest you can", do that. That exercise is to get you past doing it in a teacher-prescribed way, and tapping into however you want to play!

When I was animating at Disney in the 1980s and '90s I had an opportunity to see those sketchbooks in person.
The "Jimmy Page before Led Zeppelin" reference really struck a chord in me
Long life for drawing ✍🏻
what should i do if my enjoyment of drawing exceeds my desire to learn?
